What is inside a Phase Tester? Opening a Mains / Line Tester
Просмотров 652Год назад
#noexpert #whatsinside A Phase Tester is a tool that comes in handy when you want to find out which one is the hot or live wire in a mains circuit. It is one of the few things that are actually safe to stick in there and when it detects the phase, it starts glowing. That's why some people also call it Neon Screw Driver. But how does it work and what is actually inside it? Let's open it up and f...

    So you can print something without a program from a computer?

    • @no-expert
      @no-expert 10 дней назад

      Technically yes. But in my opinion, that is not a good way to print something. As you saw in the video, the file that was on there was prepared in such a way that I could really just press start and it printed. And that was awesome, because it just worked right out of the box. Also it is possible to download files that are ready to go. But in order to make the prints better and not crash your printer, you really want to control the print parameters. And that's where you use a software (called slicer) to prepare the machine code. Like this you can specify and see what the printer is going to do before you start printing, which is really helpful and prevents many problems and mistakes. Thats why I would recommend to always use a slicing program like cura, orcaslicer, prusaslicer etc. And then the workflow is: Find a model you want to print -> download it. Open it in a slicer, and prepare it for printing (set the temperatures, speed etc.) -> save to SD Card or USB and then start the print. Once you are a bit comfortable, it will take just five minutes from downloading the model until the printer starts printing :)

    hmm but what's the power draw with it ON, so if you forget to disconnect the battery, the electromagnet will drain the battery?

    • @henryn3850
      @henryn3850 3 дня назад

      I was looking for the same answer as well, and it turns out an energized relay like this will drain about 70ma to 200ma of electricity in its on state, so yes in short your battery will drain faster if you forget to disconnect the battery. Doesn't look like there is an easy way around it. Maybe install a fixed solar panel somewhere inside the windshield to compensate.

      I’ve had it installed for a year now and it still works fine, didn’t even have to change the battery on the remote. For me it saved a lot of headache because now I know my battery is always full and my car can start. In everyday life nothing changed except that I need to press an extra button. The only problem I see is that when the remote is empty one day, I can’t start the car - but I’ve got a second one. Apart from that it’s just a switch, it can’t damage the car. It’s like unplugging your TV instead of putting it into standby. One thing to keep in mind is that the remote lock/unlock and the alarm system won’t work if you completely disconnect the battery like this. But then again, a thief couldn’t start it either until he figures out what’s going on :D

      In this case, I would put a replacement battery in your car, wallet or backpack so you always have one with you. Also take jumper cables with you (which you probably already have with you if you’ve got battery problems like me). In the case you lost the remote or the remote battery is empty you can always bypass the relay using one jumper cable, connected in the front and back of the relay. Like this you should be able to start your car even without the remote :)

    For all the keyboard doctors out there. I have had this machine branded different over 10 years. It is very sensitive to amps and stick position because it doesnt have any assisting properties like modern dc inverters. Once you learn to weld this you will master rest of the welders. Its like riding a bike without balance wheels first time.

    Many devices only have a single 12V power supply and generate the lower voltages for the electronics internally using a voltage regulator. When the motors generate current, it flows through the motor driver board back into the 12V power supply. The voltage regulator can draw power from this and the display becomes active. Good engineers are aware of this phenomenon and have protected their circuits against it. But to be on the safe side, you should only move the motors slowly so as not to generate too much energy.

    Thank you so much! I am rescuing my files right now with your help. My WD MyCloud 3TB died today. Red light despite everything and I was hearing a clicking and hissing sound from inside. At first I thought that the drive had failed and the noise was from the drive's head. Imagine my surprise when I took it apart and found out that the sound was coming from the PCB! I couldn't pinpoint it to a particular element on the PCB, but it was producing the sound I was hearing nevertheless! It was the weirdest thing! Anyway thank you again.

      After experimenting with the power supply, I managed to get it working again with a different one, even if it was 12V 1.5A and not 2A like the original one. I got all my files with your method. Now I have to decide if I'll throw it away or piece it back together. But honestly I'm fed up with it. Nothing but problems...

  •  5 месяцев назад

    Option 0: plug your ethernet cable into your device without any reset. If you do a soft reset, plug it again. In my case for some reason MyCloud didn't want to connect to my network, the network led on the back didn't blink. After plugging it into my Mac mini it worked.

    You are so right about RAID not being a good data backup. All it does is keep you running if you have a failed drive. Once I came to that realization I changed my volume to JBOD to maximize space and bought a QNAP DAS that I keep in another location connected to a computer synced using QSync. With no action required by me, every time I add a file to either it automatically clones to the other unit 300km away. I hope someone finds that useful.

    The elephant in the room of course is WHY? Nothing to do with WD wanting access (all of the time) to their customer's data I don't suppose. This is not a mistake, it's cynical design. I had exactly the same problem with a so-called 'smart' TV I bought a few years ago: no 'off' switch. As with the NAS I translate 'smart' and the lack of hardware off switches as attempts in all cases to harvest data by all means possible (access to hard drives, microphones, cameras in all devices whether mobile, desktop or home entertainment. There is literally no other reason - nothing to do with energy conservation and convenience (in fact the reverse). In all cases I DEMAND the ability to turn off all devices - in the case of the TV I fitted a conveniently located switched mains socket. The irony is that in many ways I don't mind data collection; I just wish that industry would be more honest about it and not try to hide the fact that this is what they want to do all the time. Finally, 'hibernate' does not give me any confidence at all that the devices actually turns off stone-cold dead - I will do it but then will pull the power and LAN cables. If they mean 'shutdown' then it should say that in clear words: 'TURN OFF'!! Thanks for your video by the way - these are not complaints directed at you they are complaints aimed at designers/manufacturers!

    • @no-expert
      @no-expert 7 месяцев назад

      Thank you for your comment, cynical design is a fitting word here. Either it's cynical or they have lost their touch with reality. They do have a professional market and it's okay if a big server doesn't have a switch anymore because it has to run 24/7 anyway and is managed by an IT guy, but this is an entry level consumer product, of course it should have a switch. It's not a lamp I'm pulling out of the socket, it's a fragile spinning disk with my data on it. I think you are absolutely right with demanding a real switch on all devices and in my opinion it should be integrated into legislation that even if the "real switch" is digital, in order to power things down correctly, every connection and data transfer should be stopped. I don't need my nightstand lamp (Philips Hue) to do an update in the middle of the night, just because it's always connected. I'm pretty sure right now a lot of products that are getting washed into the market are creating a digital web that no consumer can really track and sooner or later that's going to backfire. Headlines like "criminals hacked the dishwasher to access the door and just walked in" sound like a joke now but could become reality. Anyway, I switched to a true local NAS now (no internet access) and it runs stable AND it's got a power button :)

    I have the same problems accessing my TS-451+. It won't even access my Admin/Admin username and password, despite doing a 3-second reset with the button in the back. I even tried the combo suggested by QNAP customer service: using Admin in combination with my MAC address (no spaces or colons), and the darned thing still refuses to give me access. Very frustrating. I also did the hard, 10-second reset and it made no difference. If you know of any other work-around, let me know. I'm about ready to "drop kick" my QNAP NAS into the river! No NAS should be able to totally lock out the user like this. I did notice you added in pressing the Power button same time as you did a reset; that's not advised in the directions you showed, so why did you do that?
