      The rolling stock is actually the same series: the Mitsubishi Crystal Mover. This appears to be the higher capacity variant ("Urbanismo") that is closer to the one used in the Yurikamome in Odaiba, Tokyo than the ones used on the Singapore LRT which are closer to people movers used within airports.

    They should have added in trains onto the bridge. It would have been faster and more economical to operate. MTR's Airport Express trains can operates at 135 km/h, if the same train is used on the bridge at the same speed, it can cross the 55 km span in about 20 minutes. Non stop at that distance, a train could run even faster. A special train connecting to the HKG airport terminal directly could replace the HKG to Macau ferry because of the speed and lower operating cost. Heck, if they spent more money to make the bridge part of the high speed rail network, it would have made it even more convenient! They are going to spend the money on the bridge anyway, why not a little more to make travel faster? Also, there is no direct MTR link to the HK side of the bridge, making it extra inconvenient and time consuming to get to compared to the high speed ferries in the middle of the city. It took me over an hour bus ride (CityFlyer airport bus) from Yau Tong to get to the immigration center, than another 45 minutes for the ride across the bridge. So a little over 2 hours total. Yau Tong to ferry terminal to Macou would have taken about 1 hour and 10~20 minute total. If the bridge has a train line and MTR direct connection, my trip from Yau Tong to Macou would have taken about the same time as the ferry ride.

      Yeah, I always wondered why they didn't build at least a reserve space for commuter rail, feels like wasted potential for something that should be a no-brainer.

    • @CaptainM792
      @CaptainM792 Месяц назад

      Then what should the ferry companies do if they were replaced? Cotai water jet and Jetfoil would just become history? Or are they going to connect Hong Kong to Mainland china’s outlaying islands near Hong Kong?

    • @ArchOfWinter
      @ArchOfWinter Месяц назад

      @@CaptainM792 Businesses can adapt with new routes and the ferry will still be more convenient for some people near Central (even most of HK Island) and West Kowloon. Even if train and high speed rail would be faster, the ferry would still be more convenient for anyone living on or near the MTR Island line since the Sheung Wan station has an exit leading to the ferry terminal.

    Maybe the East Rail Line platforms 1 and 2 were the platforms for the separate company KCR and the platforms 1 and 2 on the Kwun Tong Line were part of the MTR company, but since not yet changed after the merging of the two companies.

    Well not only the Kwun Tong Line that retains the original alignment to help Tseung Kwan O passengers to cross the harbour to North Point, but there are many more of these situations that different train lines can take over other lines when disrupted, with the help of different tunnels.

  • @wantikjasonchiu4711
    @wantikjasonchiu4711 3 месяца назад

    But actually not only that the line was terminated to cross the Harbour to North Point station and then changed to Tiu Keng Leng, but also crossed the harbour to terminate at central station before terminating at Yau Ma Tei and Whampoa.

    To make a correction today in October 2024 the bus route 629 still exists and it is now operating from central (star ferry) to the new Ocean Park Water World passing by the previous stop of the theme park.
