First Time Ever In Cricket? Run Out Off The Fielder's Helmet!
A batter smashes the ball into the fielder's helmet and the ball bounces onto the stumps - with the batter out of his ground. I don't think I've ever seen this on a cricket field.

It is the preamble to The Laws of Cricket for a reason and can easily be applied to every other sport. Humble in victory, but gracious in defeat. I've included some good and bad Spirit of Cricket moments that had people talking all over the world, so let me know which Spirit ...
T20 Cricket PowerPlays are unnecessary and should be scrapped.
Просмотров 9414 часов назад
Do we really need Powerplays and fielding restrictions for T20 cricket? The sole purpose of implementing Powerplays in One Day Cricket back in the 80's, was to allow batters to score more runs during the start of an innings to draw more attention for the crowds and the fans, but we don't need that anymore in T20 cricket. Scrap all Powerplays and fielding restrictions for T20 cricket and allow t...

Umpire Steve Bucknor said this about Cricket DRS and I agree...

International Cricket Umpire Steve Bucknor suggested that umpires should have the freedom to use any technology to make decisions and that the decision for a review shouldn't be left in the hands of the players. How T20's Started As A Joke And Changed Cricket Forever
Просмотров 67 тыс.21 день назад
Up until 2005 - when the first International T20 Cricket match was played between Australia and New Zealand - T20 cricket was seen as nothing more than a joke, a sideshow and a 3-hour spectacle - and nobody took it seriously. Some cricketers were very outspoken against this format and believed that it could damage the traditions of the game and that it would eventually fade out when cricket fan...
The '99 Cricket World Cup Run Out Was NOT Donald's Fault
Просмотров 4,4 тыс.4 месяца назад
South Africa played Australia in the semi final of the 1999 Cricket World Cup in what is still regarded as one of the most epic cricket matches ever played. Lance Klusener smashed South Africa onto the verge of a certain victory and a place in the final, but then we witnessed one of the most heartbreaking run outs ever in cricket. Many people blamed Donald, but I strongly believe that it was ne...

In 1992, the United Cricket Board of South Africa announced that - for the first time in Test Cricket history - TV replays will be available to use for run out and stumping decisions. Many people, including umpire Steve Bucknor, were against the use of technology in cricket, but then something happened on the field during the second Test that changed his mind overnight. It's just an odd version of out stumped in a sense, if you ask me, the difference being the batsman made contact instead of swing-and-a-miss.
@@guyfaux3978 Interesting take, but the laws are very clear about stumpings. If any fielder other than the keeper comes in contact with the ball before it hits the stumps, it cannot be a stumping anymore, only run out. 👍
@@CricketMachineZA Oh, I understand that, of course, but I was going more for what the effect is when you have a bang-bang play like that. In other words, no, it's not a stumping, but for the difference it made, it might just as well have been one. Clearer now?
The ball is still live off of a fielder, player or umpire. In the situation of the ball striking a person, the ball only becomes dead if the umpire calls it dead due to a potential serious injury to a player. This happened so quickly that the umpire would not have had the time to call it dead before the wicket was broken. Say for example it didnt hit the stumps, the keeper gathered it and in that time the umpires saw the player still on the ground and then called dead ball, then the ball would be dead and no chance of a dismissal. This is just one of those one in a million things that the laws of cricket allow to happen
Great response. Definitely one in a million. The confusing thing about the Law is that it says when an umpire calls dead ball, the dead ball would be regarded to have started at the instance of the incident or injury that caused it, and not necessarily from the moment of the umpire's call. So if the umpires called dead ball for the injury, the dead ball should be from the moment the injury happened, so from the moment the ball struck the helmet. Interesting nonetheless. 👍
The Incident still requires the umpires to make the call of dead ball. The point becomes moot because of the fall of a wicket, at which time the ball is automatically dead, so this is still one of those "freakish" incidents
This is hilarious
Not sure the batter will agree. 😄
I still say it is a joke.
A joke that took over the cricket world, but at least it's fun and shouldn't be compared to Tests. 😄
One of the worst things ever happened to cricket honestly. Destroyed both ODI and test.
I don't think it destroyed Tests. ODI's definitely suffered though.
Have you ever seen a cricket run out like this? Do you think it should be a dead ball?
if it deflected to the boundary for 4, I don't think any batsmen would be calling for dead ball
@@crangs8142Great point! I asked some professional umpires for clarity. So many things can happen after it deflects from the helmet.
In today’s day and age, we don’t have long attention span. Things gotta move quick. Songs are shorter, short form videos like content on TikTok, Instagram, and other social media platforms are by far the most consumed. As much as we as Cricket fans are loyal to the original essence of the game, and rightly so, we have to remember that to the rest of the world, it’s entertainment. To a large part of the population, cricket (especially test cricket) was seen as a nice background noise while taking a Sunday nap 😂 T20 turned it into an exciting sport, action filled. We went to a T20 at SuperSport Park, SA vs Sri Lanka. It rained, and the match was constantly delayed. Eventually the rain stopped, and the match could start. But there was only enough time for 10 overs each. Imagine the excitement. That’s when you miss guys like Lance Klusener 😂
I just said the other day imagine Klusener had a longer T20 career! And yes - Test cricket is GREAT ASMR for afternoon naps! 😄😴
It is still not proper cricket.... remember that
It will never be Test cricket, but it definitely opened up cicket to the rest of the world.
T20 is the reason cricket is added in olympics It's very fast paced thrilling and just 3 hours Associate teams are beating top teams a lot more frequently nowadays making it as unpredictable as football No icc event has had much as much participatation as 2024 t20 world cup almost 30 teams Like it or hate it but T20 has grown and saved cricket more than test or ODI ever could
Good points. I don't think cricket ever needed saving, but T20 definitely gave it a global boost that Tests and ODI's could never do.
who gives a toss if cricket is part of the Olympics. It is the same with tennis and golf. All three of those sports have no place in the Olympics. Winning a test series against their respective country's biggest rival is what counts, not if they win an Olympic gold medal or not.
@tomnewham1269 olympics is the biggest sporting event and winning medal in it is the biggest honour in sports Stop yapping Without T20 no olympics inclusion and it would never grow in associate nations
100 ball cricket is quite interesting to see its rise in England
In fairness, it's still a joke
A fun joke, nonetheless. 😄
T20 is great, but T10 you can fit in the duration of a normal football match. I'm looking forward to T10 continuing to grow.
Any format that works to take cricket further to a global audience is a good thing.
@@CricketMachineZA nope. Audience expansion is not the be all end all when it comes to sport. When it just becomes a product solely to make money and as a way to make money from gambling, it no longer is a sport but just a business to screw as much money out of people as possible.
T20 is very exciting. It is good to have quicker formats in sports. I regularly follow Competitive Cricket as well as Competitive Chess. Also, read a lot of books on both the above sports. If we compare these two popular sports Cricket and Chess; even Classical Chess (which we can compare to test Cricket) seems lengthy and time consuming. So now Rapid (usually less than 30 mins each player games) and Blitz Chess ; just 3 to 5 minites each side...etc formats are getting popular. I think, all the formats in sports should co exist. In today's times shorter formats are more broadcast friendly and more commercially viable which in turn could support and nurture the long and pure formats of the given sport.
ODIs >>>>>> T20is
I like odi cricket
Me too! I love all kinds of cricket. 👍
I know of a silly mid-on who was carried off the field with his broken teeth sticking through his top lip. Oh, the unnecessary helmet.
Geeeeezzzz.... That bowler ripping the stumps out of the ground is intense! WTF?? Seems recent as it's Zing bails.
It's bangaladesh captain shakib al hasan in a local icc tournament
Same way odi was treated when it started
Exactly right. Check out my other video about the birth of ODI's. 👍
Still dont watch t20 on a regular basis...
Gentleman's Game Ruined by T20 The Quantity is so much Quality has gone down
100% correct.
T20 is still a joke.
T20 is the way to go. If you're watching 9+ hours of 5 day test and ODI and are not getting paid, you need to get a life...
But cricket is my life. 😄
Cricket T 20 format basically a entertainment.
What's your best or worst Spirit of Cricket moment?
Holding was a jealous man
He was a cricket purist. Can't hold that against him. 😄
Holding is 100% correct.
T20 cricket saved cricket , and i feel like bilateral series should be go off , franchise/club tournament should go on in t20 format..
I wouldn't say it saved cricket, but it definitely did more for cricket globally than Tests or ODI's.
Test and T20 cricket is the only way to go.
ODI's are in trouble.
@@CricketMachineZA i don't see ODI cricket surviving in Moder day cricket
Where are you from??
South Africa. 👍
India winning 07 wc ws the crucial point
It's test or T20....ODI is dead
I regret to say I actually agree with you.
This is because of IPL ❤
IPL changed world cricket.
@CricketMachineZA yes
If a helmet lands on the wickets, its OUT HIT WICKET. Your video tell it wrong.
Thanks for your comment. In the Laws, it's not out. (See the laws on the screen). According to ICC International Playing Conditions, it's out. According to England Playing Conditions, it's not out and the ball immediately becomes dead. Like I said in the video, this law is different from country to country, but according to the official laws, it's NOT OUT. The laws are freely available on the Official MCC Website. That's where I get my information.
I Think Hong Kong Sixes is the best format for a Mixed Cricket Match / Tournament
That could be interesting...
It's still circus and business 😂😂😂😂😂hai
Pseudo Cricket fans Cry ABOUT T20i cricket Because their fav Team stands Nowhere there😂
Thank you to the 'rain' for giving us ODI's, even though it also ruins many games! 😊
I was also of the same opinion, that it wasn't Donald's fault. Then I ran into him in public, wanting to say 'hello' with a handshake. He wasn't happy! Gave me filthy looks! Now I don't mind to blame him 100%! 😂😂😂
The 'vanishing ump'! 😂😂😂 Some serious explaining after that game, I'm sure!
Terrible day. Just when you think modern gear & equipment can't get better, something like this happens. Sorry, but also thank you Phil Hughes for making the game safer.
I don't care much for anything other than Bucknor's awesome decision with the 'Jonty Rhodes 1992 dive runout'! 😂😂😂 Many legends involved in that 5 seconds of absolute epic cricket!
I agree. It'll be very exciting to see how captains approach new, challenging situations. I would love to see 7/8 fielders packed around a batter in T20!😂😂😂
3 slips. Deep Third Man. Point. Deep backward point. Cover and Deep Cover and Deep Fine Leg. Bowl short and outside off. And NOTHING else. 😄
ICC need to uplift ODI cricket... Big three nations are prioritising tests and t20s
@@mukulsahu1104 Agreed. I think ODI's are in trouble...
Why fix something which isn't broken. T20 is doing great for 2 decades without any changes.
The same can be asked of Test and ODI cricket. If that wasn't broken, then why did T20's happen in the first place? T20 cricket has brought more changes to World Cricket than Tests and ODI's combined.
@CricketMachineZA Test has see hardly any changes in its century of existence but it's not the same for ODI, ODI is a broken format from start that's why it's become 50 from 60 then day-night then introduction of powerplay if everything was good we won't have seen this much changes.
Do you think T20 PowerPlays are still necessary?
I watch it but doesn't feel the same passion like tests or odis
I agree. Nowhere near the same intensity and weight as a Test Match, but I still love it. Brings a completely different kind of energy.
Which decision was the most controversial?
Oh, that Jonty dive!😮😮😮
Many amateur clubs (or Sunday Leagues) around the world already have mixed teams. On the pro-levels...? Hmmmm...? Dunno.
Questionable decisions galore in Buckner's career as umpire
Only Indians and Pakis watch cricket. Nobody else gives a damn.
