I’m surprised as a brown person you bypassed how this school is excessively white lol not necessarily a bad thing, but UC’s are typically known for diversity and UCSB definitely trails a lot of the other UC’s in that area

Excellent video. I agree meal plan swipes per week with no carry over sounds so strange.

Quite informative although one suggestion is it would have been great if you could walk around campus instead of just your room to give us a better idea of the school

What does FT stand for and how the nickname get started?

class of 2005 here. Oh, how I missed the good old days. One of the best times I've ever had was attending basketball and volleyball games at Thunderdome. A lot of fans come out, especially Gaucho Locos (I still have those yellow shirts.) One thing that's never changed about UCSB is how out of control parties are in IV on weekends and how expensive it is to live there. Never understood why kids want to live on DP and pay $4K+ a month in rent. My friends and I always hung out at Java Jones sipping coffee we can barely afford and Mexican restaurant called FreeBirds. I dunno if it's still there. So many unforgettable experiences! Living in the dorms was one of them. Freshman year I lived at Francisco Torres, which was a privately own building off campus on El Colegio Rd now owned by UCSB. We used to call it "FT" or "Fuck Towers." The most heartbreaking event during my time at UCSB was David Abbott, I believe that's his name. A guy who plowed through a crowd of college students who were out partying in IV on that horrible weekend. Through good times and bad, UCSB is definitely a great place to learn and grow. Your experience is what you make of it. Cherish every moment. I miss it a lot!!

The housing is an experience in itself. IV was chill but San Nicholas was incredible. Gaucho life was legit. I shouldn't have transferred to UCLA

Just applied to UCSB through TAG today! I applied to econ&accounting, and am basically guaranteed admission since I have a 3.72

I was a student at ucsb for 10 years (got my phd) back in 95. I live in la mesa and rented a room for $200. Back then the people that owned the house didn’t know what rents were going for. It was sweet.

It's interesting that after 30 years, so little has changed in terms of pros and cons. However, one thing that has changed (for the better) are more POC students at UCSB. 30 years ago, I was a fish out of water as one of the few Latinos there. My son is sitting on the fence choosing between colleges. I'll shoot this video to him. GO GAUCHOS!

65% of UCSB come from East if Mississippi . That tells you it is a legacy institution of wealthy families as opposed to accepting California students primarily. Liberal douchebag school superficially heavily invested in military engineering firms via CAPSTONE and TIA to bring mongo bucks into City if Goleta and provide prospects for local military firms.

I got accepted into UCSB as a CE major, but I really just wanna do CS. SJSU took me, I think that would be a better choice

So if you get an apartment in I V they don’t give you a Designated parking spot just for you, like any other apartments

Got accepted as a transfer today and I looked up the rent and its wild. One single bed is as much as your own room at ucr. It's kinda throwing me off.
