    19:06 You should have connected your fan to the motherboard or fan controller if you're doing this kind of mod. It will free up more power budget to feed your GPU core. Yours have a 320W max power limit. On all Nvidia cards, the power limit includes consumption from RGB and fans. By having the fans draw power from elsewhere, your GPU can clock higher since it is bouncing on/off the power limiter. The core demands more power, but it is power limited.

    Interesting improvement. My Zotac 3080 heatsink seems pretty good though, I run 3 92x25mm noctuas on it and at 40% (~750rpm), they can keep it the core at 80°C while pulling 270W. (Probably ~60% for 330W.) So your stock cooler doing as high as 78°C with those insane 3500rpm fan speeds seems really bad? I don't remember but I think if I ran the stock zotac fans at 100%, the card would stay below 70°C 🤔

    • @dockbock
      @dockbock 8 месяцев назад

      Yes, the stock fans only seemed to be giving diminishing returns on cooling past 2000-2500 RPM.

  • @Takashita_Sukakoki
    @Takashita_Sukakoki 10 месяцев назад

    Really suck the HP 3080 card has a hard BIOS limit of 320W and minimum fan speed of 30%. Ironically undervolting gets you more power/frequency headroom. I own the card i deshrouded it and zip-tied noctua NF12s on it connected to the mobo and controlled by Fancontrol v144 in the OS and undervolted to 0.9V @1845mhz . It no longer sounds like a jet engine but still maxes out the noctuas at 1500rpm and can reach 84C. The default cooler is built on min-maxing off the fans aka minimum amount of cooler mass to maximum fan speed just to barely hold it in spec. The morpheus 8069 at 145€ could buy you a better cooled card. Its cool for tinkerers but the price to performance isn't really there.

    • @dockbock
      @dockbock 8 месяцев назад

      This is a fair point. For now the cooler will serve for the longevity of the card but it also adds the cooling over head for power modding the card (though I will need take a look at the VRMs to see how much they can take).

      I own the card and the cooler is just too light weight to deal with 320w. theres a reason there are 3 super loud and fast fans on it. Even putting 2 noctuas on it at 1500rpm cant keep up...

    • @Boba_Fett1980

      Nah, It was the cooler 100%. HP 30 series cards are complete garbage, I had an HP 3060 ti and the cooler was absolutely shit. It would hit 90c and even with fresh thermal paste (thermal grizzly kryonaut)AND an undervolt, it would still hit 84 c and only became normal after an extremely loud and aggressive fan curve. They did not try at all when it came to designing their 30 series cards. Even dell made better 30 series cards.

I contacted Alphacool to ask if that was normal, but never heard back. Which is disappointing, because I have a lot of Alphacool gear and I’m wondering if maybe I should take my business elsewhere. I usually complain about EKs blocks performance, mainly because they’re so expensive and the performance is meh, good, not amazing. The cpu block, the supremacy 2 was good though. @@kiam9941 no, it’s not horrendous bad, it’s just high for liquid cooling. I just live with it. If I ever have to disassemble for whatever reason I will probably buy some good quality thermal pads for it. But you’re right for the most part, as long as the blocks are well made and properly designed, the performance difference isn’t great. It may have to do with my pump, the pump on the loop is kinda weak. Only paid $25 for it. But it cools the GPU well enough so 🤷🏼

      GPUs have a different connector than the mainboard PWM fan header. Its the JST PH 4 Pin connector. The sigal is the same. But with a program like Fan Control, you could let the the mainboard and software control the new GPU fans. Especially because the middle fan of the HP card cannot be controlled directly with afterburner.

    • @dockbock
      @dockbock Год назад

      The short answer is likely yes. Fan blade geometry and blade number will vary results, but with the Silent Wings Pro 4 (at the lowest I could make them in Afterburner 1250 RPM) adequately cooled the GPU die under 100% load to 76 C with the hot spot 86-88 C. The VRAM however ran around 94-96 C, which is still in spec of the 105-110 C throttle limit. I also forgot I had a 180 Mhz overclock on the core and 500 Mhz overclock on the memory which does, of course, increase temperature.

I was going to buy Giant Trance X with this fork, but when I googled all the info I realised that I will have to throw this fork in the thrash can immidiately after buying, so I chose Marzocchi Z2 which also has indistinct rebound adjustment, but at least no bushing problems (though they are very small compared to Fox 34). So both RS and Fox say you're too poor to give you a nice fork if you only have $500.

    • @dockbock
      @dockbock Год назад

      I know I bought those expensive Be quiet fans, but I don't have the disposable to pick up fans that I don't need at the moment. Performance wise though, the Silent Wings Pro 4 have a peak cfm (cubic feet per minute) of 84 and a static pressure of 5.31 mm H2O at 36.9 dB while the NF-A12x25 has a peak cfm of 60.1 and a static pressure of 2.34 mm H2O at 22.6 dB. (That's from the manufactures websites) so with the higher rpm you will get more fan performance at the tradeoff of considerably more noise. Granted the Silent wing pro 4s are not particularly audible from within my case, and also you really don't need too much fan anyway.

Also I just want to say that when putting thermal paste on a gpu die, it is pretty important to get it all covered. Unlike a cpu with an IHS, the gpu die is just exposed so any spot that's not covered will get hotter. BUT yours seemed to spread evenly enough to keep it stable so good job!

      Just to make it a little more comfy on some modest climbs when I take it to my trails to throw down a hill.

      Making an upgrade like this for the most part pays for itself. Especially if it improves the bike to the point that upgrading to a more expensive bike is not needed. Parts are cheap as well. Cheaper than paying 300-400 dollars more for the next mongoose fat bike with more gears. If you still need more gears, certainly get a better bike

    Do you know the rear dropout of the malus? I have one I’m going to convert to a rear hub motor ebike. Everything I’ve read says 185mm or 190mm. I measured with the tire still on so I was kind of eye balling it but it looks more like 8” / 203mm to me if I’m measuring correctly.

      Its probably 190mm dropout I converted a OUTROAD bike into an e bike that I bought from amazon and it was a 190mm dropout.

    Nice video! Just recently bought an Axum as project bike and enjoying it so far. Was planning to pop open the BB to check the grease and bearings b/c I've heard a few horror stories of the condition from the factory. I used to tear down my old Rockhopper yearly, so my confidence was high. I decided to practice on an old Schwinn Ranger that we had that had never been torn down/rebuilt to try out some new tools. Took it apart with zero issues, shockingly. Confidence was still very high. Went to reassemble and the threads on the drive side were shot. No idea why. I never crossthreaded it and they were shot as hell. Now I'm second guessing my skills. :O I bought a threadless BB to rebuild the Ranger as a backup bike for my son. No way I'm paying to have a Ranger retapped.

      I was thinking about doing the same thing when I replaced the freewheel on my dolomite and then realized that I’M gonna be the one to adjust the rear derailleur (bro-chanic) so I just left it there for a few rides on the trail to make sure the chain don’t go into the spokes lol. It’s coming off next week

    The Axum doesn't have a master link, you'll need a chain breaker.

      Mine did. The chain is kmc and so is masterlink
