How Butter Churns Were Made 100 Years Ago Still Works! #butter #cooking
How butter churns were made 100 years ago (still works!). That’s what Foss Drennon believes, of course he’s been making old-fashioned wooden butter churns for over 50 years. Making a butter churn is a lot like building a barrel. Nothing is nailed or glued together. Foss doesn’t draw or measure. He makes his by the proven “guess and hope” method. Back in the 1920’s he wanted to make one so he went straight to the source. The Drennon family had a churn they used every week. It was from the 1800’s and either his grandmother’s or his mother's. He took it apart and used it as a pattern. Of course he put the family churn back together. A man has to have priorities. Forrest makes what it known a...

Hi Philip. At the beginning of the Traveler series we'd do a mood piece like this if we were short a story. They received such a good reaction that we did 2-3 per year. Usually we would find an unusual location or time and build on it. Nels Anderson and I would talk for about five minutes and then he would start shooting. I would walk around and take some notes about what I saw and felt. I guess you could say it was all inspiration.

I don’t have her recipe but here’s mine. They are my favorite. This is Southern country food so it’s simple. The important thing is to cook the apples until all of the water evaporates. They should be pasty and much thicker than applesauce. Then you add the rest of the ingredients. This is for 4.5 ounces of dried apples. 1/4 cup white sugar 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons butter 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (this is really to taste. You could use a mixture of cinnamon and nutmeg. ) Cook for a couple of minutes to make sure everything is mixed and then you are good to go. I hope this helps
