EOREI for Dumbs – An analysis of the energy required to get served our need for power in the grids.
How efficient are power generation technologies? The LCOE is giving us an indication of this from an economical perspective. But this analysis may be affected but some conditions distort the real efficiency. The EROEI (or EROI) is eliminating the economic factors and focusing on how much energy is required to harvest the energy we need. This is considering not just the energy required to run the processes but also the energy required to extract the raw materials, produce the machines and tools required in each step, operate the power plants, and finally dismantle them.

WIND ENERGY AERODYNAMICS - Chapter 1 - Wind energy, boundary layer, power capacity, and roughness
Просмотров 5693 года назад
The kinetic energy from the wind is the fuel that drives the wind turbine to produce electricity. The rotor of a horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) is the critical element for that so its aerodynamic design is of paramount importance. So for its design is critical to understand how the wind behaves and how its characteristics are driving the design decisions. This is the first of a series of v...

@@energytechnologysherpa thanks for the video. This is the reason I asked about the carbon footprint. Turning the raw materials to a machable materials requires lots of power. I live in the pacific northwest, we have a lot of hydroelectric power here. One dam, Grand Coulee provides 21 billion kwh per year. We have a lot of dams. As I understand it a wind turbine can produce about 6 million kwh per year. That's about 3,500 wind turbines. Probably more as turbines output is variable. The wind turbines we do have only about 50 percent seem to be running when I drive by. I live offgrid on solar, I have no problem with the technology. But it seems like the world is rushing into replacing fossil fuel without looking at the entire effect on the planet.

Electrical grid is not a large battery. Your house can be if you build it right. I have been in construction helping with passive houses and low energy constructions. Bare winter you don’t need more than 2 kW at night to keep inside around 20 degrees Celsius. Solar boilers are better for heating water, especially when combined with heat pumps. I am a bit dazzled by the amount of energy being thrown away in many houses. Energy awareness should be the first thing to learn at school.
