Sometimes we will be looking for helping you in becoming knowledgeable or getting acquainted in the latest trends.
EOREI for Dumbs – An analysis of the energy required to get served our need for power in the grids.
How efficient are power generation technologies? The LCOE is giving us an indication of this from an economical perspective. But this analysis may be affected but some conditions distort the real efficiency. The EROEI (or EROI) is eliminating the economic factors and focusing on how much energy is required to harvest the energy we need. This is considering not just the energy required to run the processes but also the energy required to extract the raw materials, produce the machines and tools required in each step, operate the power plants, and finally dismantle them.

The voice grates from the very beginning
We need wave energy its a constant energy source we need invedtment
What's with the robot voice?
The major challenge is the type of material for use underwater (seawater is very corrosive)
lol none has EVER created anything for the marine environment.
The best explanation on RUclips about wave energy, thank you
most wave energy is at the water surface.
This technology has great potential in my opinion and I believe it could be done to be environmentally friendly as well as energy producing in a worth while effective way
67 million people pass away every year if 20 million people were put in a cemetery in a wind turbine coffin the problem would be solved.
LCOE is terrible for comparing different sources of energy. For unreliable intermittent wind and solar, costs skyrocket with penetration levels.
Keep dreaming OR wake up to the reality of endless numbers of fiascos. Only stupid people STILL believe in wave energy. Everything has been tried during the previous 75 years or more. Many different technologies have been tested, by many different and skilled people. Not a single one has passed the test. They have all failed. Most of them by an extremely wide margin. If you do not get any wiser during 75 years of experiments. Then you are fighting a “Mission impossible”. If you continue and will not accept all the negative conclusions. Then yor are just plain stupid.

Archimedian Energy. A doublecarusel (weighted withweghts+cables) recives compressed air(from Wind or solar sorce), insome cups at the drept of The șea and rises. The used air is sent back to high pressure, and then stored în tanks underwater.
Beter collect compressed air, without generator, because its not withstand socks and stored în tanks underwater.
FAKE CARBON FEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Note: Regional variations depend on differences in technology, fuel prices, financing availability and labor costs, amongst other factors. LCOE measured in U.S. Dollars (USD) per megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity generation using a 5% discount rate and carbon dioxide price of USD30/tonne.Source: IEA Projected costs of generating electricity, 2010 Edition"
No real solutions presented. Just a bunch of maybes. Keep chopping up those birds. I'm sure PETA approves.
The translation into English is complete nonsense
If no wind a helium filled delta kite floats 100 ft high. Wind above 4 mph causes top kite to rise and pull a train of kites up. Hose connects all kites so air pressure runs a generator on the ground. Weight pulls kite train back in when wind is too light.
Thanks Tom
Nameplate?
Depends on the solution
Google has invested years and millions in #MAKAMI and finally understood it makes no sense.... The danger and the maintenances is too high and the yield too low! Just use long term investments like Gigavolt sea cables, (direction south west ) thermo solar storage plants or simply nuclear power to go 24/365 carbon free now and not in 30 years! The only use sails have is on ships! You disqualify your self sticking on wrong decisions!
Much appreciated. Still I feel we should have our minds open. If we go back in time, there were not very positive reactions or expectations for all technologies, including nuclear.
Thanks for the summary. Does anyone know of any recent up-to-date videos of where AWES are going? They seem no brainers, but are there just too many hurdles? What would the equivalent of a 3MW turbine look like (considering a 3MW turbine over a year, produces 750Kw on average.)?
thanks for your comment. They are not progressing very much
I also has a design for this kite energy project , hoping it will suffice our energy needs.
I have one more solution to the wave energy converter.
What?
@@DrewH789 yes now i am in the process of developing a model to have the prof of concept.
I think there is something force in the ocean that is still ignored until now,,please help me on how to develop my idea, thank you for the acceptance!
Hello Jessie. The way to market maybe long for ocean energies. I would recommend you a step by step approach. Don't know where are you located but I would recommend trying to start with a small scale prototype you can test and validate your assumptions. In most of the countries you will find grant schemes devoted to provide support to these breakthrough innovations.
The tides will break rhe generators And need to be replaced And they will kill all the life that goes through them and when they heat up the water heats up which makes the air heat up Air comes from water Not trees
Hello James, as you are pointing the conditions for those systems are harsh but they will find the way to make durable solutions. Speed motion is low compare with onshore wind turbines as density of water is 1,000 times bigger than air one. They are seriously monitoring sea life, specially mammals, to be sure no harm is caused.
Maybe you could do a video on the actual carbon footprint from obtaining and processing all the raw materials. The manufacturing of all the components and eventual disposal and recycling of all wind and solar energy products. Just asking how green is that alternative energy?
Thanks Dave. Let’s try to do it. Will take some time to gather all the data as this is a kind of LCA analysis. However, to make a fair comparison we should be doing it with the most relevant power generation technologies.
@@energytechnologysherpa don't forget to include batteries or power storage systems. And all requirements to connect to the current grid as well as all maintenance costs over it's life cycle.
Got it! In the mean time, maybe you can take a look into this video ruclips.net/video/-zV9hBuUWAA/видео.html that is describing raw materials for the wind energy turbines
@@energytechnologysherpa thanks for the video. This is the reason I asked about the carbon footprint. Turning the raw materials to a machable materials requires lots of power. I live in the pacific northwest, we have a lot of hydroelectric power here. One dam, Grand Coulee provides 21 billion kwh per year. We have a lot of dams. As I understand it a wind turbine can produce about 6 million kwh per year. That's about 3,500 wind turbines. Probably more as turbines output is variable. The wind turbines we do have only about 50 percent seem to be running when I drive by. I live offgrid on solar, I have no problem with the technology. But it seems like the world is rushing into replacing fossil fuel without looking at the entire effect on the planet.
No solution fits all. Hydro is a great power source, but not all the places do have the capacity for it. Water use can be a problem in some regions. BTW, very nice place, I used to visit Kennewick in the past :)
You may want to change the title and how this video is arranged. Look up the 5 R's. THE 5 R'S: REFUSE, REDUCE, REUSE, REPURPOSE, RECYCLE. Recycle is the last thing to consider in reducing waste. Why isn't much of the hardware for the wind power plant not reused for another wind power plant with the only parts replaced are the moving parts? Just a suggestion. There are many things to consider.
You're right Ronald. We were not intending to cover the 5Rs in this video, but to focus on the recycling part. The reason for that is that is gonna be the most difficult part. But let's have another video addressing the other Rs as you suggest. Thanks!
This is a great and informative video. I showed it to my 7 year-old who loves our planet and wants to be an engineer and she typed this: "I love how it is good for the earth". Thank you!
Thanks Brian!!! this is the best reward I could ever expect. Thank your daughter and encourage her to get her dreams done. 👍
Hi so if I get asked in an interview to choose if a factory needs to choose between energy efficiency or a renewable energy overhaul. What method can I use to arrive at a hypothetical answer?
Hi, the LCOE is used for assessing the cost of energy produced by a power plant. However you can use a similar approach to calculate the payback of the two actions you describe considering the investment needed in each case and the return each action provides
@@energytechnologysherpa Thank you very much. This helps.
Electrical grid is not a large battery. Your house can be if you build it right. I have been in construction helping with passive houses and low energy constructions. Bare winter you don’t need more than 2 kW at night to keep inside around 20 degrees Celsius. Solar boilers are better for heating water, especially when combined with heat pumps. I am a bit dazzled by the amount of energy being thrown away in many houses. Energy awareness should be the first thing to learn at school.
Hi Paul, thanks for that. You are right when stating that the energy should be considered at the very beginning of a house construction. in this case, the house is already built so there are very few things that can be changed at a structural level. We can get which is the current energy consumption and we are trying to figure out how to improve it. Keep in mind that this kind of renovation or update is one of the biggest markets and the most impactful one. Residential energy consumption is a big chunk of current global energy demand so worth to think about how to improve it.
@@energytechnologysherpa Yes I realise energy in older houses is a real brainbreaker, but still if you use brains, you can save a lot of petrol, gas and electricity. Without loss of feeling well. I feel you’re on a good path, please continue. Don’t count too much on the big money though…
Agree. Please bring ideas for this specific case. Every case is different but would be nice to discuss potential solutions and why they can fit or not in this house so other can use those thoughts for their own case.
@@energytechnologysherpa First thing to do is airtight insulation so the house doesn’t loose all the thermal energy. Before you put all kinds of fancy renewable energy systems in place.
I guess these are the technologies we need to watch for harvesting energy from the ocean.
Both videos, tidal and wave try to show the most relevant efforts being done to harvest ocean’s energy.
Very good informative video, just subscribed
thank you so much Paul
The ocean is a tough place to make a living.
That's right. This is the major challenge for all these technologies that are trying to harvest energy out of the sea!!!
Interesting pronunciations in places especially ‘Makani’ whose first ‘a’ is actually stressed and the second is more ‘at’. Some like KPS (Kitemill bought the rights) have stopped trading.
That's right Mike. We are at the very beginning of some technological developments, and many will fail, as it happen to other technological solutions. Countless failed in bringing wind or PV to the current situation but without them success wouldn't have been achieved. Similar may happen to the airborne wind systems. Let's give them some credits and recognition for trying. If some of them succeed, the impact may be huge!!!.
I currently work on the UPWIND project at FEUP, Portugal and we are also developing this technology using a rtf glider. We are hoping to bring new developments near future. Nice video btw!
Thanks Sérgio. We are eager to see what UPWIND will be delivering!

Thanks Jose. Hope you find the way to develop your system
Thank you very much!

Boat building, eco home roofing or cladding, bus shelters, water tank ribs, rail station shelters, farm buildings for animals, canoe, kayak, surfboards, electro hydrofoil water toys, smaller blade home wind generators, make use of panels for moulding, jigs, stencils, templates, or reusable boxes for tools. Just Ideas, but you could use this material for these things. Your welcome 😇
Thanks!!! That’s true, there are already some one applications on that direction. Some of them, as the roof shelters, will require not to recycle the materials but to adapt the blades for a new function. In some others, you will need to recover materials with some of their functionalities and re-shape them into new applications (i.e. in the automotive industry). We will incorporate these potential applications in a future revision of the video. Thank you so much for the comments.
Informative video on new technology

I hate to tell you this but Your LCOE numbers contain a fatal flaw. ruclips.net/video/PFqEegqrSJ4/видео.html
Hi Dave. Thanks for watching!. I kindly disagree. Our video is just trying to describe how LCOE is calculated and why sometimes, depending on its use, we should not be anxious to get the most precise numbers. Tony Seba is arguing, and we agree with, that for some particular cases people have been miscalculating the LCOE getting for some technologies values lower than they should be. In fact, our video is also warning on the misuse of the concept.
let’s goo
Thx!!
Great comparison 👍 I invested in EnerKite myself.
thanks for your comment… and if possible let us know how the company is doing and your experience as investor!!!
Interesting and nice photos
Thanks!!!
Yes, useful video, thanks. However, it's not clear at the end of the video: why choosing to improve efficiency instead of reducing degradation was the best option?
Hi Luiz, thank you so much for watching and glad to hear it was useful to you. We used a particular example, using the hypothesis as described in the video and so this is right for that particular case. However, this is very likely what is gonna happen in most of the cases unless degradation reduction is extremely radical. Just keep in mind that the analysis is done in a 'ceteris paribus' condition, so we were analyzing each effect alone. Hope this answers your question
But what we say specifically in our video, is that people making investment decisions for a given case do not use the LCOE but a detailed case analysis (its specific P&L along the expected life of the asset) and normally is audited by third parties.
I already thought about this theme in the school, and I found it a very interesting! I showed this video to my teacher and she found it very useful and complete. Thanks for the video explaining it!
Glad to hear is useful. Thanks
