Tracker Topper 1236 Set Up & Walk Around
Просмотров 37 тыс.5 лет назад
Set up and walk around of my 2018 tracker topper 1236 jon boat. This video covers trolling motor mounting & wiring, navigation light mounting & wiring, paddle & pole light storage, 2018 5hp tohasu outboard & transom saver, battery tray mounting, and a DIY jon boat trailer. I hope this answers some of your questions or sparks new ideas on what you want to do to your jon boat build. Top speed and...
Is that the small square trailer from H.F?
@@MRCALIEMS It’s the bigger one. The deck on it is 4x8.
Did you cut and paint the tongue extension yourself? Or is there something off the shelf you can buy? Probably will do the same thing
@@greenjonboat2014 Cut & painted myself. It’s 2x2x1/4 square tubing. I had to grind it down a bit to get it to fit into the sleeve on the original tongue.
What kind of trailer is that ?
@@infinitedev1128 Harbor Freight Utility Trailer.
That looks like fun!
Me and my brother in-law are big guys and I was worried about him and I being to heavy for it.
Do you fish with other people with in the boat and how does it handle the weight.
Yes, I have fished with another person several times. It gets a bit tippy, but as long as you pay attention we haven’t had any problems. Adding another person definitely is a struggle for my little 5hp. It will get us where we need to go no problem, but I takes some time.
Very nice set up!
DO you have a link for that trolling motor mount... I can't seem to find it on Cabela's website.
Vey clean boat. And nice set up. I just pick up a new grizzly 2024. I might set my like your. Thank you for showing my friend. ❤
you can change the prop and the carb and have a 6hp that will get a few more mph on that boat.
You need a Bigger motor!
Send him some money....
I remember Waterskiing on a 25hp Johnson im also a snow skier so didnt mind plowing water till we got up to speed. That Boat went about 32mph nice water skiing in Maine. Thanks Dad!
Drop a Mercury 9.9 on there, you'll be Flyin!
LMAO saying the word Mercury means nothing....when the facts are tohotsu builds all the 9.9 and smaller outboards for all manufacturers...... Mercury don't make it faster
If you change the prop pitch, you will get out of the Hole Quicker, but you Top end speed will be lower?
What App did you use for the speed?
How did you build the partial front deck? It looks good...
Move all your weight forward. Trolling Motor, battery and fuel tank. Then it will plane out much faster.
I have the same 1236 from bass pro. I have a Sea Pro 10hp on it. With the Bimini top up 27mph. I had a Coleman 5hp 4stroke. It ran 14mph
Will it handle a 20hp ?
Why is the fire extinguisher right next to the only thing in the boat that can catch fire?
Very clean setup! I have a 1036 and am finding it's too short. Had a 14' got tired of the trailer & went to the 1036. A 1236 would be great to throw in the truck.
Beautiful outfit 😃
How much weight total can this Handel ?
How much weight can this thing handle total?
Tracker's website says it will hold 480 lbs.
It will hold 5 people! And eventually sink to the bottom
I'd be thrilled, that's a nice set up Chase. Enjoy it.
Too heavy should be hitting 17-18mph
He'll no
I'm not even half way through this video and already love this setup. Your craftsmanship is top notch too.
My 6hp mercury won't even put my 1436 on plane
Needs at least a 15hp.
@@NervousNick I put a 9.9 on it and got 19 out of it.
Do you think that trailer I’ll fit a 14ft Jon boat ?
very good job
Get a rubber grommet in that hole ya drilled. It will save those wires, even with the sleeve.Nice boat overall. And coat your stainless hardware and holes with the recommended product to stop electrolysis from rusting the stainless and chipping the paint on the Aluminium. Adding a sacrifice to the transom helps if you have a lot of non aluminum metals on the boat. Put a thick layer of rubber or a foam yoga mat under your battery. And your breaker. It will all help prevent battery drain, and corrosion. And light flooring, even a restaurant kitchen mat. The 2 inch thick kind. Get the stress off the hull rivets . Just some cheap tricks to get your investment to last. !!!!! Stay away from pressure treated wood!!!! I love my 14’ flat bottom. I’m sure you love yours
Very clean sir, Great job! I do have a suggestion though.---Mount your fire extinguisher towards the bow, if a fire breaks out, it will be near the Transom (where you don't want to be near.)
Very good job young man!
I have a 5HP 2020 Merc 5HP on the back of my square stern canoe. It moves at 12.5mph. Videos on my youtube site. I put 140# sand bags in front. Canoes are not supose to plane. Makes it more stable also.
Where did you get your bracket for your paddle ?
Quick video about building the casting deck would be great. Nice video nonetheless. Keep it up
Have you done a video on your front deck of your boat ,looks pretty nice,
Not yet, I'm hoping to do an "Update Video" soon that will have the front deck in it as well as a back deck.
Haha, for someone who didnt want to drill a lot of holes, you did drill a few. I think with the length of the battery cable it will cost you some amps. I like your boat though👍🏻
That tongue setup is slick. You can keep an 8ft section to swap out for beach, pondshore launches.
Nice setup. Just wondering how is it launching with that trailer? I plan on using a utility trailer myself I already own figured I would ask.
I back in as far as I can without getting the waterline onto the hubs of the trailer. I'm not sure if the hubs are submergible or not, so that's why I don't back it on in. I push/pull the boat while standing on the trailer. I do not have to take the motor off, I just tilt it up as far as it will go.
The one downvote is from a kayaker
I Had a new 2019 Hobbie PA 14 enough peddling..... full of compliments , Now buying 1236 topper , not sure on moter brand ?????? Any suggestions? Thank You.
Do you have a video on how you handle the boat at the boat ramp with this trailer? Do you back it in so the back of the plywood is under water and then pull/push the boat while standing in the water? I have the same trailer and usually take the motor off so the boat is lighter for loading unloading, but wondering if there is a better way.

Great top end! Getting weight forward would be far more effective with that little motor than decreasing prop pitch. I think hole shot would be a bit of an oxymoron with 5 hp. A lower pitch prop might be needed if it won’t plane with a maximum load but 15mph with a normal load on 5 hp is pretty optimized already. Putting the trolling motor on the bow and adding a 10-15lb lifepo4 battery as far forward as you can get it. Reduce fuel to maybe a gallon, move fuel tank forward of the seat and carry a quart reserve. Change your anchor out to a Cooper nylon anchor. On boats and airplanes weight really matters especially with very low power. Do all of the above and it might crawl out of the hole a little faster. To get on plane a boat has to climb the bow wave and start down the far side. The bump in the wake of a boat is the bow wave that you are both generating and outrunning. Or you can just go fishing which is my recommendation. You can add a bigger engine but then you give up shallow water capability, economy, stealth, stability, ease of launching and handling. In my eyes your rig is perfect as is. Build it for your most common mission not for the mission you might use it for occasionally. Thanks for sharing I am going to build the same boat to replace my Hobie Outback.
Thanks for the comment. I will explore with moving weight forward.
What length shaft is this trolling motor?
Nice. Check out my vids of the 2020 Mercury 5hp on a 14ft alumacraft. Did 17mph wide open 15mph with all my gear and my wife. Very pleased with the new 2020 mercury 5hp outboard. Trim adjustments go along way.
Yours is a Tohatsu too!
One thing I noticed that needs changing is where the wires come out at the bow of the boat. You have wires coming out through a hole you drilled and you don't have a grommet to prevent the metal from chewing through the insulation and shorting out the wiring. It is extremely important to have a rubber grommet or something to prevent that from a short circuit, its only a matter of time before that happens. Consider the vibration particularly when operating the outboard, every impulse is rubbing those wires on the bare metal hole, slowing chewing the way through the insulation on those wires. If you haven't already changed it, I'm sure an inspection will show you the abrasion on those wires.
I was thinking the same thing.
Your setup is perfect! Thanks for sharing!
Great job on your boat. I also wanted to minimize drilling holes in my boat. I have also been wondering what to do about my nav lights. Your video has helped. I like your setup. Thanks for posting this video.
Where did you get the paddle and light holders?
With speed app do you used?
I have the same boat. Can you tell me how much it cost for the outboard motor?
