Welcome,
My name is Todd. My wife Laura and I live in a small town located in Michigan. We also have a cabin and 80 acres of woods located about 2.5 hours North of our home.
We're hands-on DIY people and we enjoy spending time outdoors doing the things that we love. Riding motorcycles on and off road, mini-bikes, horses, camping, canoeing / kayaking, Jeep ORVing, hunting, fishing, target shooting, working to improve whitetail deer and wildlife habitat on our property, and more...
I started this channel because it allows me to share my DIY projects, experiences, favorite tools and other useful products and more with my family, friends and a community of people who have similar interests to mine. I'm an avid RUclips watcher and over the years I've learned a great deal from people who've taken the time to share their information with the YT community. This is my way of giving back.

Do you think it fits on a KLX250 from 2009? I think thye are nearly th same bikes....
I'm not sure. Maybe check their website.
Any bike with bags and windshield is a bike you can tour on. It amazes me that people need the latest most comfortable shit but then again I consider my Springer an adventure bike.
good stuff mane
I’m 6’ 250 lbs and getting the taller mini apes and riser was a night and day difference. I was getting a lot of lower back pain after an hour or so of riding. Now I never even think about. The stock seat had to go and I went with the saddleman you’re referring to with the back rest. Kind of mixed on my opinion of that. It is better than the stock seat though. 🤷♂️
Thanks. Just placed my order using your link. Hope thats an affiliate link.
Awesome, thank you!
Hi Todd, looking foeward to seeing how your bike turns out. I'm thinking of going for some 4" risers as just did recent 1.5k trip around Ireland and was getting some shoulder pain. Still rocking the stock seat after 17k miles...as it's comfy for me. :)
Go with the 6' risers. I did the 4" pullback risers, but I should have done the 6"
These are a waste of money. They increase engine temp. You just purchased a high dollar air cooled bike, now you just blocked much needed air flow by installing these. NOT A GOOD IDEA!!
Wrong,
I just did a 4 day 1,500 mile trip in 90 degree Temps each day and had no problems. With the vents open, the motor gets plenty of air. You're entitled to your opinion. I like the lowers and the added comfort is amazing. The bike is fine
One thing to try to eliminate buffeting is to add a vent in your windshield. This allows just enough air through to eliminate the air pocket behind the windshield and therefore gets rid of that air effect. I have a heritage and between the fork mounted fangs and the vent buffeting is almost zero at any speed
I just ordered them. I have an Indian Challenger with a "Fat-Front-Tire-Kit" (180mm) these should work perfectly!!
I love mine; I have a Harley-Davidson and it fits no provblem with room for the disc brake ...
Now zip tie that spring
Don't ever use drywall mud on something that flexes it will come off. Take it from a drywall man, I know from experience
I’m in Sussex county nj and I had a big one in my front yard again. Bear encounters are common. I’m trying to keep my dog safe and myself
Thanks! Beautiful bike!
I really like your idea! I have a slightly different idea. Find a little more modern popup, say 2001-2005. Strip off the popup portion, and try and keep the floor, tanks, frame, propane. Add the foamie on top of that existing base. I want a usable bathroom with shower. Also, wife and I sleep separately now due to her cpap, so want to have two twins, so have to manage the layout. I have an electric SUV so need light weight (3500lb towing capacity).
Sounds like a great project. Best of luck...
Thanks for this nice project - cheers!!
Thank you for watching... Best of luck to you!
So, I have an Exiss trailer that is having problems with a frozen hinges just like yours did , what was your secret on getting your hinges to move more freely?
Heat, penatrating oil, and time to let it work. It's not easy... good luck!
@@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournal Thanks, thats what i understand but just wondering if there was an easiler way , have you tried to puch out the pin in the hinges ?
I'm going to try to punch it out this week, I'm just trying to seek any suggestions that I can on this hinge pin removal to fix the window hinge tightness
This video takes way to long .
Feel free to fast forward or move on as you wish. Thanks for watching and giving me your insightful opinion...
Do you think the small one is just too small
Yes, the large is a good fit and performs very well for me. I would not have been happy with anything smaller. Best of luck ...
Good overview
Thanks!
Why didn't you show you makin it?🤔
Just trying to keep it informative but short. Thanks for watching...
Any chance you can share what size are the t-slot channels are on the crossbars? I'm assuming they're t-slots.
The Grove is 7/16" wide. Hope that answers your question.
Awesome ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
I loveeeeee this idea! Thanks for sharing
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching...
Great end result, I think I will be trying to copy this exactly, it works perfectly for what I wanted to build. Pity we don’t have the Amish mills in Ireland 😊
Good luck! Thanks for watching...
Todd, sorry to be a dummy, but how does a ring shank nail attach the plywood to the metal frame?
I have a wood frame built over my steel frame. Check out my build series if you want to see how I did it. Thanks for the comment. Best wishes...
Is it really so much cheaper than glas and Epoxi?
It is. But the finished product won't look as good. It will also take more time. In the end, for me, it just isn't worth it.
@@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournal Thanks. And i think glass end epoxy is more durable. Coating a caravan that live 2 decades or more it should be used something durable.
Your garage looks like mine. I’ve got the 2023 KLX 300 and I love it it does everything pretty darn well Great ergonomics terrific suspension and impressive acceleration and torque don’t be fooled by the 300 cc mark I like the rack I have the same one on my 2023 and it did fit perfectly out of the box

For break-in, its not just about the engine, but the transmission also. Smooth upshifts and down shifts, no jack rabbit starts and stops, and no high rev running for extended periods. another thing is, short rides to heat and cool down the engine. multiple heat cycles during break-in is good for getting everything seated. I have always used engine hours, in the past, not mileage. but riding conservatively for the first 10 hours or so, goes a long way to having a long lasting engine, that has well seated rings with no blow by, and gets all the excess material from building, out of the engine and transmission for first oil change.
Silicone hex cushions are what you need, something from purple or vivamint
I say find what works for you and stick with it. For me the butt buster is working great! Thanks for the comment...
Todd, great project my fellow Michigander. Now I know what to expect. It looks natural on the bike. Doug🏍️👍🤓
Thanks 👍
im no camper builder. But 5 minute mud aka hot mud has an epoxy like material in it to make it dry faster. Also you could use a 2 part epoxy just on the seams. Im not sure what the price difference would be for a whole camper using 2 part epoxy instead of wood glue. I do know you can get it pretty cheap if you buy chinese brands in bulk. edit: is there anything stopping you from doing it with titebond and paint and then later on down the road when you have money coating the whole thing in epoxy and sanding to a smooth finish?
Its really a time, cost, and finished product combination that lead me to skin my camper with plywood. Thanks for the input...
@@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournal didn't know what you did and wasn't criticizing it. Was more asking a question of do you think epoxy would work on the seams. And couldn't you later on just epoxy over the pmf if you weren't satisfied with the finish a year or two down the road
I thought the lower brackets attached to the upper bolts of the triple clamp. Are the instructions different for a 2023 KLX300?
I've ridden over 1,000 miles with the windshield on and everything is exactly the way it was when I installed it. No issues at all...
You could try some split wire loom tubing to protect your brake line.
As it turned out the brake line was not an issue. As soon as you sit on the bike your weight compresses the suspension and the issue goes away. Thanks for the comment.
You should get a front wheel chock, it makes more easier to jack the bike up when the bike is upright straight instead of side standing
I've got one...
The problem with this jack is that there's no way to strap the frame of your bike to it, if you're just going to raise it up to 'look' at it fine, just don't plan on turning a wrench on it, your bike will slip right off this jack when you're least expecting it and crash onto the floor. Don't use without a front wheel chock or strapping to some overhead rafters.
I've never had an issue. I have a front wheel chock that I use if I'm going to do any real work on the bike. I use this lift every day as a center stand and it is rock solid when you're not lifting both wheels off the ground. Thanks for the input...
Mine did not come with new bolts
Contact Harley-Davidson. It should have bolts. Best of luck...
Not my choice!
I have a La Pera solo seat. It gets rough after about 45 minutes. Painful. I got a butt buffer expecting a big difference. The difference is negligible at best. Without the butt buffer, my butt would hurt. When I added the butt buffer my Gooch hurt alot worse in about 30 minutes. Dang. Glad I found one locally. The guy selling it said it wasn't worth 30 so I gave em 20.
I love mine, it's a game changer for me. Thanks for watching...
@@ToddsProjectsandOutdoorJournal are yall serious?!?! These things are too thin
@@alienman7866 To each his own! With this product I can now ride for hours without pain. Prior to using this seat pad I would only be able to go for about 45 minutes before having issues. Do you own this product? Have you actually used it on a long ride?
Thanks, great video. What is the make of wind shield?
Gustafsson, there are several videos on my channel play list of mods
Interesting, I have a 2024 KLX 300 with the exact same rack, spacers to short... I stacked 3 firm, black rubber washers on top of the spacers on each side to give me the extra length, worked perfectly, nice and solid. If there's a will there's a way, lol. Enjoy your new wheels👍 I love this bike!
I had the same issue with this rack on my KLX. I happened to have two identical deep sockets (3/8 or 5/16 maybe?) that fit perfectly. I cut them down to level the rack & painted them black. I like your rubber washer idea though, a little vibration dampening between rack & bike. In the video the weight of the back of the rack is on the fender, going through the fender to the metal panel below is a better plan IMO...
Good video that’s the one I have! Thank you!
You're welcome!
How does it stand up on a windy day driving on the rd?
It trailers very well. It is perfectly balanced, and the wind has very little effect on it even at expressway speeds.
I thought Exiss trailers had "Kell" brand windows you can buy replacements. thx for the video
If only that was really possible... unfortunately, it's not.
I like the set up; My brother has a M-F 1723 EB & loves it. I own a 2018 M-F 1526 with a fel, & have the clamp on forks as well. I've been looking at grapples both hydraulic or electric, But both are expensive, & you need a 3rd function. I like this option; Because I already have the forks, & I don't have that many brush piles to eliminate, & with my 1526 I can lift loads higher, & load into my 1 ton dump truck; I also have a Woods 6' scrapper blade that I put on the back; As a counter weight. Thanks for the video, & the very useful tip😉.
Enjoyed seeing your property and that you are able to grow some plots on it. I’m new to this whole process, your property looks a LOT like mine in northern MI
Hey Todd I just watched your video using the groundhog max with your Massey Ferguson sub compact. Are you still happy with that set up? I have the same set up but never used the groundhog max with the tractor.
It's small but does what I needed. I have a harrow drag that I use most of the time. The disc gets used when we're breaking new ground for the first time.
I’ve been using mine with my atv but I find it’s tough on the bike. Does the pto apply enough downward force in your opinion?
It's marginal at best, but it still gets results
Good job. I would like to see a second video with your next service. Thank you.
More to come! Thanks for watching...
Sweeet going to try and make one thank you!
Have fun! It's easy...
Got one love it .
