i ironically know someone who was running with "arielle" ( her real first name was used in the movie, arielle holmes IS a moniker to protect her) - and heard about the casting. the safdies wanted this guy to play the mike character. he thought it was a junkie pipe dream and went to rehab. heard her voice on the trailer 6 mos later and lost his shit. its too bad she's still living that life from what i've heard. but what the safdies didnt get about heaven knows what was allowing that lifestyle to be glorified and getting all these close ups of sweet pullbacks of blood into the needle etc....to a junkie that shows nothing but encouragement. according to her friends, shes still in the life. brilliant film. rough. wouldnt suggest it to anyone who wants to get hi though.

I love how the camera movement, the very conscious placement of the dancers around them and the music makes you literally feel Kitty‘s despair and the impending tragedy. This is a masterpiece.
