Brimfield Awakening at Quiltcon 2024 in Raleigh
The Brimfield Awakening English Paper Piecing booth at QuiltCon 2024 in Raleigh was BUSY! It was also filled with many familiar Sew Brimfield retreat faces that made us smile. We would like to thank Laura and Cindy for all the demos they gave at the demo table and Lorena for the extra set of hands during booth set up and during the crunch times during the show. Sew Brimfield alumni gathered at the Raleigh Times restaurant to eat and catch up. We also had a wonderful opportunity to do a hands on class and demo in the Spoonflower booth where we made English Paper Pieced ornaments using 1" jewels and some fabulous Spoonflower lawn fabric chosen from the many talented designers. We picked a w...

In this English Paper Piecing EPP free tutorial, Kim Martucci from Brimfield Awakening will use her might Oliso Mini iron to make the Sand Dollar Block. Sand Dollar is "cheater EPP" and uses some English Paper Piecing skills as well as glue basting and applique. We call it "cheater EPP" because in this block, we do NO hand sewing! This block uses one shape from our Brimfield Blooming star quilt...
Use This Time Saving EPP Hack for your English Paper Piecing

If you could save minutes or even hours off of your English Paper Piecing projects, what would you do with that time? Hi, I'm Kim from Brimfield Awakening and today I am going to show you this time saving EPP hack. It is called Hexiform. This product acts like an EPP paper, but instead of removing it (like you do with EPP papers), you leave it in. No more snipping tacking stitches or lifting up...

    Hello talented Kim! I love your little tuts! I also love the Bobbinator! Just wanted to add three comments. I like to put several colors and two shades of gray in the chamber if I am working with lights & dark fabrics. Super easy to rotate your colors from the bottom chamber to the top chamber. I sometimes if piecing as a passenger in the car, will run a ribbon thru my Bobbinator and make a necklace to put on my neck. Hate looking for “bobbin get-aways” in the car. And if the bottom chamber is empty. I can store:park my needles in the lower chamber. Lastly, when piecing in my “nesting chair” that marvelous Bonninator, does not roll off my side table. Both top and bottom lids are formed like a pencil…. No rolling here. ❤❤❤ Love your hints!

      Jan - fabulous points all around!, especially the no rolling away. That is so true. And how clever to store your needles in the bottom chamber... I have been storing mine in my sewline glue refills (and then almost tossed them!)

    I have a question, not a comment. I’ve just recently started doing EPP, and don’t know what all I need to make a quilt with this beautiful pattern. I know I need the pattern and the paper pieces, do I need the acrylic templates as well ? Anything else (other than fabric😂) ? Thanks. Loved your presentation. Susan

    Eager to make the Brimfield star but confused about the three different sizes of papers and templates. What are the finished block sizes for each size and what should be ordered to make a block a 12 inch block. Thank you

    • @BrimfieldAwakening
      @BrimfieldAwakening 3 года назад

      Hi there - sorry we missed your question earlier. Okay, the Brimfield Block Star original size finishes at 12.5". Baby Brimfield star finishes at 50% that size (6.25") and Bitty Brimfield Star finishes at 25% of the original - ~3.13". You want to make the original Brimfield Block Star size, so you should go to our website and click on the "Brimfield Block STAR" section. You can purchase bulk packs (to make 12 blocks) or single packs to make just one block. Thanks for asking!

    I'm brand new to EPP. So new I've made two hexi flowers. That's it. I'm attempting to make a bowl now where I have to leave the papers in, and I think the hexiform would be much more fun to leave in to give it a softer look. I'll have to see if I can find the hexiform materials.

      I am not sure. However, we ship to Australia. Our shipping calculator always crazy overestimates the shipping fee and it will scare you off big time. However, we refund shipping overages greater than $1. When we go to actually ship your parcel and know the exact fee, we take care of the refund. Hope that helps! www.brimfieldawakening.com

    Hello. My question is if you take the paper off from the fabric before sewing? and do you sewing or glue it ? I would like to see the process. Thank you.

    • @BrimfieldAwakening
      @BrimfieldAwakening 4 года назад

      Hi Lee, yes, before we appliqué the blocks down to the background square we pop the papers out. We use Roxanne glue paste it and small dots all around the blocks edges and then heat set with an iron. After that you can appliqué by machine or by hand. Our pattern goes over our step-by-step process and you can find it on our website at www.brimfieldawakening.com

    • @BrimfieldAwakening
      @BrimfieldAwakening 7 лет назад

      Susan Maddox Hi there. I think any of the washable glue’s sets a little stronger when you put an iron to it. In this example I think I was just using my sewline glue pen which is the glue pen we use for glue basting our paper pieces. If you use Elmers glue, and I don’t recommend using that, but I have used it in a bind, when you put an iron to it it will set it’s a little stronger until you wash it out. I hope that helps. Also there are appliqué glues that you can purchase specifically for appliquéing. I don’t think I had any on hand at the time. Hope that helps☺️
