The Results of the Canadian BA Championships 2024
what ive heard of/ thought of so far: 1. Big tanks with big HE running up to enemy infantry, if you're moving but due to the move getting into point blank, youre on a 3 to hit. 2. shirkers might be buffed a bit, only getting a -1 for being pinned. 3. snipers might become a bit redundant, their best use was to hand out pins. but well see in the last week of august! also the feeling is a bit off. rolling whether or not a model is actually hit after the 'to wound' roll seems wrong
I think Snipers will ignore the 'Cover save'. Because Snipers ignore cover when aiming at the target. And maybe get a +1 to hit because of scopes/weapon training.
Yeah i think they been clever it does solve lmgs maje them vaible Unless how they're pointed
For me, I think it helps to make inexperienced infantry a bit more viable as now they are a bit more reliable to add at least a few pins on targets. Sure, they still might not actually kill anything due to the cover save, but now they aren't hampered by almost always needing 7s to hit anything in cover, at long range and after moving. Now, once your in 24" range, you just hit on 5s, apply damage, apply the pin and then wait to see how many die. In addition, I feel this makes inexperienced artillery with gun shields a bit more viable. Sure, it's not a great idea, but now it's not just a terrible idea as now you have a guaranteed 1/3rd chance to hit and I suspect HE is either going to ignore cover, or at least it'll reduce cover saves (which means, for the latter, that heavy artillery benefits the most from this). As said, it's not a great strategy and taking them regular is still going to be better for you, as two pins means you're hitting on 6s, but 6s to hit is still miles better than 7s to hit.
So safe to assume snipers will switch exceptional damage with ignoring cover save as why they are useful.
I think so too. They also ignored cover in V2.
Currently for me. It feels like game will drag out more with the additional rolling. Shoot declaration. Roll to hit. Roll to damage. Cover save. Medic roll, green roll, and what not to roll. Wording wise, it does seem like pins just give -1 to hit, which is interesting in a way. When it all first came i felt that everything more or less would be 7+ to hit. I think its fine that CQC weapons still lands on 2+, but 4+ as a standard hit and long range is gone as a shame. Will be interesting to see how HE and PEN will work and also the future for tanks and armoured cars. Im still really excited for v3, and it be great once we have the full picture.
Good work 👏
The 4+ to hit will work out better in lots of cases....if the enemy is in in cover.....so if youve not moved your tank for example.....its hitting on a 4+ for people in cover....where as it would have been 5 or 6+... so you will at least suppress easier....(also if they give HE an ignore cover a tank HE shell will be great.)
cool
I literally just bought a Ha Go for my japanese army because of the 2 mmgs, I guess it's useless in V3
Didnt expect a video about it. But hilarious and cool nonetheless. Amazed you remember its name though. 😂
Neubaufahrzeug supremacy!
@@ijsbeermeneer9952 has its chances with 3rd edition.
Unironically my favorite German tank just because of wierdness.
Sadly a short life for it, but I agree.
I’m laughing, as I had drawn up the Recce platoon list myself for the Welsh Open. Seems like a crazy but fun one
Yup. Indirectly firing a hvy howitzer at an enemy commisar (which was within 6 of an inexperienced unit which was out of sight), and placing the template right is how i won a game once. But quick questions: 1. When may a unit elect to go down? When its fired at is logical. But some people interpret the rulebook to mean that when a unit is hit by HE it also may go down, halvin the number of hits. Is this correct? 2. Will you be making rookie tutorials for v3? 3. What kind of tanks do you think will be good in the upcoming version?
@@ijsbeermeneer9952 you go down just before the dice to hit is rolled. Yeah I will be going over V3 in as much detail as I can manage.... Good tanks? Nooo idea but if were WG i would make medium and heavy tanks better
Regarding 1: any clipped unit cannot go down, only the original target can do it.
nice mollnjr (spelling)
Mjølner in danish😊
I'd love to see the mini being deployed as a highland platoon piper.
Somewhere, out there, is a WW1 leather and goggle flight helmet that will be just perfect. Love the enthusiasm for kitbashing. Best part of the hobby. Madrobot has some heads like this that may work. Not sure if the scale will be to your liking.
Another good source would be the Wargames Atlantic German Sentries. They have a pair of arms for "surrendering," that would work really well.
Its pretty sad that they got nerfed this hard. They look amazing nonetheless!
Good job🎉
Not sure how this will be the death of dakka tanks, all tanks got equally nerfed. If anything the dakka tanks will still be exactly in the same spot as they give you the most shots for a vehicle. I’m also willing to bet tanks will go down in points to and when that happens dakka tanks will still be here. Unless they don’t reduce those tanks points wise, but even then it could still be worth it.
RIP LRDG players
Beautiful nature over there! Also an update from warlord themselves. They confirmef that there will be no such things like small team or exceptional damage in v3. Sniperd got a big nerf, so theyre either getting buffed somehow or their pts go down. Now its just a man with a long shooting rifle and an unarmed dude...
The Rise of the Howitzer tank ??
Great Updates! Can't Wait!
I actually wish they didn't tease these rules, its giving me anxiety over my army and making me want to buy loads of minis before i can actually make any good choices
Just keep your Cool!
I’m Glad the Dakka Stuart will no longer be an auto inclusion. Might actually see other vehicles.
@@dariostabletopminatures I can't 😬
Soo Whats the "cap" then? Do we have to choose certain amount platoons? or can we now mix but with certain dedicated platoon types? Also 'order dice' it used to be 12 standard , how about points.. Whats it going to be now? Yeah i'm curious about the standard tournament/play rules. And as with certain other games im a bit frustrated cuz now I have to change my standard builds and have to buy new stuffs
@@FargoFinal we have some guestimates for some of those questions: A. You need as many rifleplatoons as you have of any other single platoon type. B. You can mix and match, never exceeding the number of rifleplatoons for any other platoon type. C.oD were never really any thing 'standard', that depended on your Meta. D. Points have been playtested at WG for 1250 so maybe that will become the new standard points? E. Yeah that sucks, I also have to go buy new models
This is Jeff. I ended up in 2nd place, but only lost out 1st to a different Gurkha list by 4 dice kills. It was a two-day event, and I ended up playing six games overall with about four different lists. Day 1 was a Doubles match, then a Tank Platoon match, and finally a “Slaughterhouse,” without any restrictions. I won all six games I played, over the weekend.

An idea for a video topic you could try before the end of 2nd edition, where you discuss the various minor nations (not France or Italy) and, if you were to really take them in a tournament setting, what sort of army list would you try to bring. I do understand that for the Allies that's going to be difficult as since most of them are carbon copies of France, so my suggestion would be to try and avoid making them all similar looking armies if possible (perhaps picking a theme for each army and trying to achieve that theme while still being good enough), or alternatively, explain the reasons for why something different doesn't work or is at least inefficient. And after all of that, which army would you be happy to take to a tournament, one for both the Axis and Allies
@@merlin4084 good idea
Looking forward to this. All very creative lists, would be fun playing against any of them (and most likely bruising!)
Split transport rule, unusual, but lots of targets for multi-launchers.
Captured BARs on the Jager squads
They really need to stop the Flamethrower+vehicle dismount and flame. It's just broken.
@@CS-zn6pp we have no info on flamethrowers yet or if they can even be taken in engineer units, but yeah 7 per ingeneer platoon would be bad if nothing changes
I have to say, your english accent has rrally improved over the years!
Just started mine thanks for the very informative vid. You’re right about the parts in the Atlantic sets. But il mix it up at 500 pts. The painting opportunities are endless. Notice you get. Scarfs in there too , so say one unit blue scarfs the other green berets. Each group uses different identifying marks
FYI - After zooming into a picture of the new Starter Boxset, the Greyhound Data card says that MMGs and HMGs have 6 shots. I'm not sure if you had seen that tidbit yet?
@@leej296 i did right after i finished this video😆
I wanna see the Swiss Army, in a what if the Germans invade Switzerland scenario… 😂🤘🏻
SPECULATION: A 'cover save' could be a simple bonus to your base wound value; i.e. a regular 'infiltrator' staying put would be as hard to kill as a vet?
@@hippyhippyshakespear that is one possibility yeah
I am pretty sure they changed fanatic from "auto pass morale checks" to "ignore all pins but have to take a morale check." Did I get that change right?
@@mikeybarbo5561 looks like
Yeah, Fanatics in v3 seem to work like Stubborn in v2.
That green nerf is quite significant. Previously Green was always a good thing when free, now its a lot more neutral. I'm not making a value judgement on it aside from that if it costs anything, it isn't worth it (I would expect it to be free).
Hey Bo, I think you missed the nerv of fanatics in your Video. The Rulepage from Warlord says: "If forced to take a moral Check, they ignore negativ moral modifiers from pin marker" This makes fanatic more like stubborn in V2. It's clearly a nerv in comparison.
@@Sikk17 ah yes that was what people were going on about.... Everything is still soo new😅
Have a nice vacation or whatever you are doing in the us. Looking forward to new videos in august. 🤘
rumours, rumours. I got one more: A guy from a large officesupplies company reached out to me and told me that "some well known Danish player" just ordered HUGE amounts of binders, printerInk and paper...... Make of it what you want, but i think somebody is prepping for the first V3 tournament and that "i am going on a trip to the USA" is all nonsense :P
I’ve been through a lot of edition changes with a lot of game systems. There is always an irrational hysteria about incomplete information based on assumptions that something will work just as how it presently works. For example, there’s no reason to assume that flamethrowers will work the same way, so why fret about them at the moment? The main categorical change we know about that I hope they get right is the move to a new platoon structure that allows for more historical/flavorful skew lists. On the face of it, this allows me to make more realistic force organizations, but the Generic Reinforced Platoon was a balanced kind of way to encounter a war game and have a mixture of arms. I hope that in this new way of doing things that they find a way to keep it fun and engaging no matter what people are able to come up with.
Even less of a reason for 'irrational hysteria,' in this case. It's not GW. People don't have to feel as if the new edition blows they can't use their minis anymore. This is historical wargaming. If V3 is crap, I'll continue to play one of the dozen other platoon level WW2 games out there - some of which are very, very good.
Yup, thats always going to be part of it. People will allways assume based on incomplete theories Now im not saying that its not fun, it can be great fun to speculate and try to decript what the 3rd edition will hold! But nothing other then what is confirmed by WG should be taken as fact
Ty for this video. Was looking forward to it
Hungarian Para Assault is a very powerful unit. Grewt list!
With such extreme builds looks like instead of a balancedish game at the moment it's going rock paper scissors. A lot of games will be predestined before they are play. If you open up to structure too much players will abuse it.
I agree totally about the rock paper scissors thing. They have tried to make make it more like 40k to lure more defectors over but have missed the point that the thing people like about bolt action is that it's different to that. I can see a lot of people sticking to 2nd ed rules. God I never thought I'd become one of the old edition grognards...
It seems REALLY unbalanced and prone to exploitation and list that are not fun to play against.
Hmm, the artillery platoon looks like it can field four multi launchers! I hope they nerf or eliminate multi launchers!
I think you're right about more specific army builds coming into their own with the new system (which I think is good: it reflects order of battle more effectively, and it will create a bit more skew that will likely make some units more or less effective based on what you're against), but being able to build a force that has a lot of flamers and a dakka tank is less likely with this system. We'll probably see people focus on the 1-2 things they really want to do, and Greatest Hits style armies will be less likely.
