ATTN Parents: Here's The Difference Between Pediatric and Adult Sport Injuries
Dr. Rush: You know, I get asked a lot about the difference between pediatric and adult athletes. So the most obvious thing is pediatric athletes are still growing their bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscles. All those things are still growing. Where we see that the most are their bones. So in a young patient's bones, you still have growth plates. So the growth plate is a sheet of cartilage. Most of the long bones in the body like your humerus and your femur, most of those long bones have two growth plates. And that growth plate is where you get the length of the bone from now because it's made of cartilage, it's actually weaker than the surrounding tendons and ligaments, and it's more su...

We Asked Our Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon - What's The Best Part Of Your Job?
Просмотров 1832 года назад
Dr. Rush: The best thing about my job is taking an athlete who's being injured, being able to work with them, figure out the diagnosis, come up with a treatment plan, go over with that with them. And I think that's really, really important is making sure the athlete knows exactly their diagnosis, what the treatment plan is, and making sure that they really own their treatment, and then working ...
Injury Review: What Is Going On With This Patella Dislocation?
Просмотров 1662 года назад
Dr. Rush: So yeah, this is a patient who is in the emergency department and you can see that there's something really wrong with his knee. It looks like his kneecap or his patella is dislocated over to that side. That's that big bumper, that big bulge you see on the outside. Now, this is a pretty dramatic injury, but what will happen is the ER doctor is going to straighten the knee. And it can ...
ATTN Parents: Does Your Young Athlete Specialize In One Sport?
Просмотров 1072 года назад
Dr. Rush: single sport specialization or focusing on one sport is is more and more common. So we define single sport specialization, as a player only playing one sport, usually playing that more than eight to nine months out of the year and not playing anything else, you have to be really, really careful with this, because specializing at an early age can lead to overuse injuries, and it can le...
Dr. Rush: Why I Love My Job As A Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon
Просмотров 5332 года назад
Dr. Rush: So my name is Jeremy rush. I'm an orthopedic surgeon. My primary focus is pediatric and young adult orthopedics and sports medicine. So after my residency, I did extra training, and pediatric orthopedics. I did my pediatric orthopedics fellowship at the University of Tennessee, and then I did additional training in sports medicine at the University of Virginia. One of the things that ...
ATTN Parents: Here's A Concern When It Comes To Your Young Athlete's Surgery
Просмотров 262 года назад
Dr. Rush: One of the benefits of having a background in pediatric orthopedics and also sports medicine is that you understand the growth plate and you're able to avoid injury to the growth plate during surgery. A really good example is is ACL tears and ACL reconstruction. So in a young patient, a 9,10,11,12 year old, those patients still tear their ACLs just like 17,18,19 year olds. But when th...
From A Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist: Advice I'd Give To Parents Of Active Children
Просмотров 182 года назад
Dr. Rush: So as an orthopedic surgeon, and as the parent of young athletes, I think there's two really good pieces of advice. Number one is to make sure that you're keeping sports fun. You want to make sure that in that young athlete, the four year old, five year old, six year old, make sure that they're having a good time, because that's going to be what keeps bringing them back. So I can spea...
The Most Common Injury Our Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Rush, Treats
Просмотров 1842 года назад
Dr. Rush: One of the most common injuries I see in clinic is a patellar dislocation or patellar instability. So the patella otherwise known as the, the kneecap is a bone on the front of the knee. Now that bone connects the quadriceps muscle, which is that muscle at the front of the thigh down to the patellar tendon, which then connects to the tibia or the shinbone. Now patellar dislocations hap...
When Should I See A Joint Specialists for Hip Pain?

Dr. Glebus: So for those, you know, patients that are out there with you know, pain in their hip, I do recommend that if you are not able to do the things in life that you want to do and that hip pain limits you, that is that is a trigger to go see a healthcare professional. If you cannot sleep at night, if you cannot roll over on that hip, those are reasons to come see someone. I do think that...
Hip Replacement Surgery Options

Dr. Glebus: So for hip replacement, there's a lot of ways that you can complete the task and they all have excellent outcomes. I do think that the population of patients that I typically get really wanting to live that active lifestyle and get back in the game or get back to work or whatever it is as quick as possible, they really do benefit from a more minimally invasive approach that is muscl...
What Can I Do for Joint Pain? | Hip Pain

Dr. Glebus: So if you are experiencing significant hip pain and it is, you know, changing the way you live your life, there are a lot of different options. We all hear about hip replacement. However, a lesser known option that exists would be hip arthroscopy. You know, most most patients come in they know someone who, who's had their knee scoped. Not a lot of people know folks that have had the...
Traditional vs. Minimally Invasive Hip Replacements | Hip Pain
Просмотров 3352 года назад
Dr. Glebus: So regarding the different approaches in the more minimally invasive to the more traditional techniques, I mean, it's it's really driven by, you know, the patient and of course, surgeon comfort. They're all going to have excellent outcomes long term, but not everyone is the appropriate candidate for that type of minimally invasive approach and that just depends on you know, what the...

I'm about to have surgery on my right shoulder this year hopefully on the NHS in England. I'm only 46 but had multiple traumas and dislocations playing football in my early years which is now causing severe osteoarthritis in one place, basically bone touching bone...!!!! Does it help instantly when you have a new shoulder as currently its a constant pain especially at night when sleeping on it...?

I've had 3, if not 4 major concussions... At 9 I was hit in the jaw with an aluminum baseball bat that an older kid threw (2 days unconsious on the couch to wake up and have no clue of the major events I was part of in the past 2 weeks), another 2 in my late 20's/early 30's (i walked away from jobs with benefits & decent pay as a 'friend' kept begging me to come work for him for less pay and no benefits and no raises in the 10 years I was a peon before I decided a better paying job would be nice.... I couldnt get a job until I removed my 'friend' from my job history.....at 41 years old, to only realize after my 3rd bout of covid (first case of covid I passed out fell and put my head in a wall -still no insurance, as I couldnt afford even car insurance anymore due to inflation of rent and food). I finally landed a job with benefits but it requires me to do computer work which, i am absolutely unfamiliar with as I have never had access to a computer.... I absolutely have trouble comprehending it, but I see coworkers my age who havent done computer work before but for them the computer work seems natural to them..... I cant afford to lose my job -younger kids fresh out of high school are trying to get me fired....I'm afraid I cant survive, let alone retire, as I have no friends aside from my 80 year old parents (single retirement plan funds, which was started when my dad was 50 years old)...... I also cant afford their 5 bedroom, 115 year old house. I also drive a 20 year old truck.... What kind of treatment is available as I need some fast so I can get a more secure and better paying job......

12 weeks protect subscapularis repair don't do physical therapy other then pendulums, fist squeezes and elbow flexion up and down. This crap they do destroys the subscap repair and you go right back for another 140k operation to do reverse replacement. No PT. Working with PT is fine after 12 weeks.

We've seem to come to the conclusion that although my Osteoarthritis is quite progressive in my knees (primarily right knee) we are treating with all available options before considering knee replacement surgery. I’ve experimented with smoking CBD flower and it provides the best immediate pain relief but there is a weird hang over effect (groggy, tired etc.) and my lungs/sinuses become inflamed and congested for about two weeks after that. It also feels like smoking it delays recovery as well. I much prefer the gummies.
