Performing Ruby Shoes Rainbow - acoustic performance
Просмотров 1994 года назад
"Live" performance of one of my original acoustic songs - 'Ruby Shoes Rainbow'. This sounds good in stereo... I wrote this song a few years ago. Originally I came up with the progression and my friend Rod McGregor and I wrote this vocal melody. I came up with the lyrics some years later. Rod 'gifted' his part of the song-writing to me but he still deserves credit for his contribution to this so...

In Port Stephens NSW. I just bought my 2nd Vester last weekend. A Great Copy of an SG with woodgrain showing under red & no neck dive. Got a couple of things to sort. All small pots are scratchy. Will replace with full size pots but not sure of capacitance yet. Needs a new nut, cos the low E buzzes but stays in tune pretty good. I had to offer more $ to get it, cos' of a lot of interest. Good guy I bought it from saved it for me! My 1st was / is a Catalina Strat with an Amazing neck w a Rosewood fret board for under $100. Love that 1 too. It's a Beast! Member of 2 FB groups. If you're on those, keep an eye out for posts when I can get them sorted. Cheers
Sounds great Vaughan
I've found one with original pickups for 40USD local, but it looks a little rough. Rusted screws and some chips on the headstock. Do you think its worth getting and fixing up?
I always suggest playing a guitar first and see if it resonates with you. I hope it works out well for you.
Hey Jules, Thanks for the Vid! I have the exact same VSS Custom Series Semi Acoustic as you have in the video... same flame green and all, with the shell inlays and binding. A VSS577BLS - Great little guitar. You mention the different price brackets... what do you think the price bracket of this is?
That's fantastic... I've never seen another one, so very glad to know my guitar has a brother or sister out there. In my view, this specific guitar is a hidden gem and that is both good and bad news. Good , in that you have an excellent acoustic guitar, that plays like an electric, has a voice all its own and plays (very) well with others. Bad, in that the true value of these guitars is yet to be realised. I believe it should get AU$800-$1000 / US$500-800 every day of the week, however what the market will accept is another matter. The same rule applies to the 1400 range guitars, which are S-Series style super-strats - ridiculously under-valued.. however their time will come.... Very (comparatively) cheap, new guitars put a lot of downward price pressure on the second-hand guitar market. I see it across all brands, even Fender and it hits the South-East Asian market quite hard - ie. the re-sale value on guitar brands like Cort, Samick and Vester. The reputation of these guitars is growing however it takes time and these guitars are likely to be vintage-age before they reach a coveted price range. Then we have the issue of the guitar market and will young people want to even play guitar.. Enjoy it yourself , play it, record it, love it. That's where the value is.
Vester sabage
sabage? Well, I think that could be good
Nice I have a vester VE 1001 it has a pink clearcoat with wood grain visible has coilspliter super strat made in Korea the head stock has 4 tuners on the top 2 on bottom trying to find anything about it it has a standard bridge on it but black posts for a floyd rose standard bridge is a vester bridge though
Sounds like an interesting guitar - the headstock tuners almost sounds like a Musicman style layout... I've not seen a Vester like that - sounds rare .. I hope it plays well and you enjoy it :)
Hi mate, from Sydney here. I acquired an Acoustic W100 Korea made. I paid near zero for it, so wondering what you can re me about it. Thx
Hello - I can't tell you anything at the moment, sorry. I'm not at all familiar with that model.
brilliant not easy but a great lesson thanks
Thanks Elsa - I'm glad it was of help :)
Hello. I have a Vester Stratocaster stage series with Stratocaster style headstock and 5 digits Serial No. with no letters: 98991. Do you know please the date it’s made or some info about it? Thank you!
I'm sorry, the global authority on Vester Strats is a gentleman in Europe, I think Norway or Netherlands, however his site has not been active in quite a few years.

I just got a Vester Acoustic model VDN-325 Sounds great looks very well built anyone know anything more about it? Thx 😊
Hello Equimanthorn - well done on owning that nice sounding Vester acoustic. I'm sorry, I can't tell you anything at the moment, sorry. I'm not at all familiar with that model.
A 1989 Vester Stage Series super strat was my very first guitar. I actually ended up buying another one, just in a different colour. You gotta love the jank! Truss rod nut was worn out on both of em, the "floating bridge" was flying up to bloody Jupiter before I slammed a piece of wood in there. The red one I owned had more of a Jackson neck profile, the blue one I own now has more of a thick classic Fender U shape. I embrace the jank, but I'm going to mod the hell out of it and maybe even get it resprayed.
Sounds like you have some mod-skills :). Enjoy the guitars - it sounds like you're getting the most out of them.
I've just swapped out all the internals on my vester strat stage series, exactly the same as yours with the strings off. I put fender machine heads on it , fender tex Mex pickups switch, tone and volume control on it, with a new Wilkinson bridge. And honestly one of the best sounding guitars I've ever played. Was always good before, but it's next level now. 🎉
That sounds like a substantial upgrade - nicely done. Interested in particular in the change of bridge - an under-rated upgrade item.
Truth hurts that’s why the lyrics hurt your feelings , living in communist countries, like England, America , Canada , who not just have surpassed Rome in evil, but have surpassed all of God’s creation from the beginning on of humanity up to now.
I don't think George was wrong in these lyrics - no hurt feelings. On the political side of things, you make an interesting point. The countries you've mentioned have become tyrannical in many ways, however I'm not sure that makes them communist - they're too influenced by large corporate fund managers and big business to be called Communist IMO.

I enjoy mine too! :). Which model do you have, Mastering Silience?
@@findJLF I have a Vester Maniac HSS. It looks like a superstrat with a Fender headstock. I got it a couple years ago for $200, it was definitely worth it! I used it in this recording for both guitar parts ruclips.net/video/xkc_g0njaeE/видео.html
I have a Vester Maniac by Young Chang (1987-88) HSS with active humbucker. Guitar is prepare for complet restauration.
That’s what I play as well, I enjoy the pickups.
The Maniac is a beast of a guitar , which I think will only increase in value over time.
Really enjoyed this video! Thank you for breaking it down
Thanks so much Adam :)
I have a Vester 335 model Spirit Delux has anyone got any idea what it is worth? Even a rough idea, I’ve owned quite a long time and only know of 3 including mine, I know there are 700s etc but the actual Spirit Delux only 3 and I have spent many years searching! But if anyone has an idea I would be grateful 👍 Thanks Tony
Hi Tony, besides yours, I know of two others. Mine and the chap I purchased mine from, I know he had a spare! (It's not you is it?) As I've not seen one for sale .. basically since I purchased mine 10 years ago, it's difficult to establish a price. To some extent it depends on where you are located... If I were to sell mine in Australia I'd suggest a range of AU$1100 - $1700 ... but it depends on what someone is willing to pay.
@@findJLF no it was definitely not me! Lol I get what you say about it’s worth what someone will pay for it but I’m fairness it’s an amazing guitar! It’s so strange that through the whole of the WWW very little can be found out about the Spirit Deluxe?
I have a vester stage series with a very soft metal broken under Floyd Rose; trémolo block, does anyone know where I can get that part?
Hi Petro, I've purchased from both Floyd Rose direct (au.floydrose.com/collections/parts/Original-Series) and also StuMac (www.stewmac.com/parts-and-hardware/bridges-and-tailpieces/bridges-and-tailpieces-for-electric-guitar/floyd-rose-tremolos/) and both have been excellent.
What is the strumming pattern? You left it out!
The strumming pattern is really a matter of taste and how you want to present the song from a style perspective. Rhythm and muting is a big topic and one that I wasn't able to cover in this video.
I hope you could fix the problem. Thank you for sharing.
Hey Leonardorafael, thank you - I didn't as I didn't want to mess with the circuit, however the unit is usable and I consider the mild fault as part of it's charm! :)
@@findJLF hi. I am a vibe fan so I follow some guys related to it. I myself have a Resly RT-18 and a modern one Sabbadius from Argentina. One of the most respectable modern vibes is the Argenziano’s based in East Europe. In this link he fixes one original Univibe from a collector in California and you can hear the big difference in the sound before and after. Best regards, ruclips.net/video/jl18VpdSW5o/видео.html
Heya! I actually have two Vesters as well. A Tradition Series Vintage "White" Strat and a Vester II Concert Series Rainbow Crackle. They are both really fun to play. The Concert Series was definitely made out of plywood after my luthier and I worked on it. Still plays great and isn't even that heavy.
Rainbow Crackle was that flashy Vester style that I think will make a big come-back some day soon. They're lovely guitars and I'm glad you're enjoying playing yours. Thanks bawstin.
I never heard of it till the other day I gotta play one !! I’m fascinated to see!
Did you get to find one to try playing, Don?
Hi again! not sure what I did but we made a video of the guitar for you to look at. It's the first time either of us out anything on RUclips but hopefully you'll take a look and tell us what you think. I wanted him to play it but he wouldn't lol ruclips.net/user/shortseJPaOr_gyKo?feature=share

Thank you, very kind - thank you. I'll try to do some demos of the others.... ;)
So I found out your clips as well JLF! Not bad, such a well written song!
Thanks so much - I'm glad you found me!!! ;)
thanks for the tut, for a beginner the tabs you play should be nice if you show them, not only in the beginning.
Hi Tobias, Thank you for checking out my video. I haven't written a full tablature for the song - I just noted the chords so you can learn to play the song. Writing out the full tab and publishing it may lead to a copyright violation, so I am cautious about that. Hopefully the chord shapes I put on screen will help you with learning the song. All the best with your guitar playing.
Hi!! Just wondering how we can work out how much our specific Vester is worth. I'm not finding much on the net. It's a semi acoustic VSS61T0B
Hi Cheyenne, wonderful to hear from you. The VSS guitars are lovely. This isn't one I've come across before and doesn't sound like a common model. Is yours a single cut-away with a set of controls - acoustic- electric? Unfortunately, I can't tell you the market value as there doesn't appear to be a record of one having been purchased on-line at all.... Any other details you can share, will help me guitar you on what I think it's worth.
@@findJLF I will ask my partner as it's his and get back to you because honestly I'm fairly ignorant lol
@@findJLF Hi again! It's a single cutaway, has a sunburst finish, rose inlay on frett board, acoustic-electric, we are in Australia, the sound hole is oval not round, the headstock is scalloped as from the custom Shop but no plaque/brass plate, it's a slim body, the bridge is also shaped as per the custom shop. It's model # is VSS61T0B (unsure of its a zero or an O but came closer on our search with using zero). Happy to send photos of you're interested in seeing it.
Hi @@cheyennechristinelivinglife this sounds really interesting! I just want to make sure it's not one of these ruclips.net/video/o10uiPEY71A/видео.html electric guitars that looks like an acoustic! Assuming it's not one of those - I suspect you have quite a rare Vester. I wonder what cut of wood is shown under the sunburst finish? Could it be / does it look like a quilted maple looking top? The look of the guitar will greatly influence the price. The original price and quality of the build will also be suggested from the quality of the electronics installed. I think you may have had a true custom-shop guitar. That said, the top end Vester acoustic guitars are still not well known - my VSS shown in the opening of this video is a good example of that. Having said that - a quick eBay search shows two Vester acoustics for TOP dollar! Who knows if they will sell for those asking prices. The market for second hand guitars is off-the-hook at the moment. Say, if you were to want to sell it - do research on eBay and Reverb and put it for a solid price that will make you happy. If you have a case for it - all the better. Write a good Ad!
@@findJLF Oh wow. Well we are in a bit of shock lol. What I'll try to do (both of us are technically deficient 😂) but I'll try to take a video of it and upload it for you to see. It sort of looks like the one in the link but it's a little hard to tell. I'll try to do it this week as he's going away for a couple weeks and I might forget like I keep forgetting to see if you responded 😅
I have a Session Stage Series tele copy that´s a very good guitar. That´s what led me here.Nice collection!
Thanks so much. There's a lot of love for Vester guitars and they're still under-appreciated but going up in value now.
Thanks for the vid, i have a Vester from 1987, great guitar. Cort still make the same guitars under the Cort brand but i don't know if the quality is the same. The body and neck looks the same.
Hey Harm - I didn't know that. Which models in the Cort range, do you think most represent what Vester put out? Thanks for watching the video.
I like you playing this song greatly and nicely!

Hi there, thank you for checking out my video - yes, I think a video on the DF-2 is something I can do :) I'm using a Rode lavalier for these videos. Rode make excellent microphones. I may have recorded the voice direct into the camera , or into a Zoom recorder.

Hello Cesar, I hope you are doing marvellously well.
Can you post the tabs?
Hi John, thank you for checking out my video. I haven't written up a tab as it's fairly easy to play once you practice and I'm too busy tabbing out my own tracks at the moment...
Cool vid thank you. I have a Vester Tradition from '92. One piece maple neck and fretboard, the thing is sublime really. Better than my Highway one and my cousin's E series. Says a lot.
Thank you for checking out my video. :) Your Tradition series Vester sounds extremely cool. Could you make a video on it and share in the comments below? That would be cool to check out.
Gotta quick question. Do you know of any source for the locking nuts for the vesters that have the NON floyd rose trem systems? I've gotta couple of Vesters with those n lost track of my source for those nuts. They're definately not the floyd rose locking nuts as those are too deep front to back at 15.5mm, the locking nuts on mine are 12mm n mounting screw spacing is slightly different too. I've got 1 similar to your 2 white 1400's here but the fret markers are more traditional placement n no floyd rose (a vester made non locking trem instead) with a 4+2 tuner setup. Haven't found the model # yet but I do know it's a maniac series.
Hi CJ - I'll need to get out my verniers for this question . . let me come back to you!
@@findJLF thanks. On 1 of mine both that I thought were still usable had at least 1 with stripped threads now.
Minor note: the dates listed at 6:35 aren't quite right. Vester didn't start production in '91 but date back to '87 at least as my family ran a music store during that period n we sold them right from the start. My 1st a JSE750 stage series (I think that was the model I'd have to double check) I've had since '88. BTW, I know what you mean about people replacing the parts with garbage. I had 1 that had been damaged in the families music store which I'd been given to fix up. Bit of a long story but they later sold it behind my back n the person who ended up with it mangled it even worse, screwing up the nut & bridge along with replacing the bridge pickup with an emg select which they'd completely bungled the install n ended up pounding it in place with their fist. Taken me a looong time to get that back in playable condition.
Yes, agreed. That was an error in the video. I hope you found the rest informative :)
@@findJLF I've always been a vester fan since my first guitar was 1 n I still have n play it. If that guitars not in my hands n I'm still alive then its stolen :-P
hahaha - that's commitment.

Thank you so much Ray.
Hey, i just bought a Vester Jar 1400 RH for 500 dollars, do you think it was a good purchase?
Hello Pan, which country are you in? If it is Australian dollars, I think that is a reasonable price to pay for one in great condition.
@@findJLF No, i meant US dollars, but it should be a limited edition guitar and i didn't found any other 1400 RH on the internet.
You can buy a LOT of guitar for US$500, in the USA. I'd say that it's a little bit on the high side in 2021. I'd try to get it for a good price , closer to $350 - $400 would be better. That would make it a good deal. Have you played the guitar yet? Trying it out for yourself is always a good idea. Thanks for getting in touch and watching my video.
Great tutorial well done! I'm working on a version of this song and this has really helped. I bet you could do a damn good version of this genius song if you wanted :-)
Thank you Charlie :)
If I had to choose between the two it would be the Digitech FreqOut. I think I'd get more versatility out of it.
It can add a lot to functionality and with the choice of which harmonics/intervals, it does give some flexibility. The Boss does have more tonal difference though.
How much did you buy the purple super strat for? A guy in Denmark is selling it for 3.700 euroes... which I think sound a little absurd for a guitar made in Korea, regardless of how good it is
I got it for a bargain price - around $150 - but they are such good guitars, I flew to a different state and hired a car to drive around and pick up a few things - this guitar and an amp on that trip. So it's worth a lot more than the price I paid for it, based on tone , playability and reliability. The asking price was as silly low, as that guitar in Denmark is silly high!
