Hot Tenting in the Okanagan by a Small Mountain Lake Steaks on the Rocks and Winter Camping
#wintercamping #hottent #camping
Join us on an unforgettable adventure in the Okanagan as we embrace the chill of winter camping! In this video, we set up our hot tents, my Onewind Penumbra hammock tent, and Jeremy's Firehiking teepee by a stunning mountain lake. Watch as we gather firewood, share laughs, and brave the cold, with temperatures dropping below freezing and a few surprise snow flurries.
We also whip up a delicious meal, grilling juicy steaks on the rocks, paired with creamy garlic mashed potatoes and rich gravy. This trip was not just about camping; it was about creating memories and enjoying nature's beauty. Don’t miss the warmth of our hot tents and the camaraderie of a great...

    This is all good clean fun, and the flexibility of a 10x10 is attractive - in theory. In practice, at the end of a long day on the trail and with a 40mph wind whipping around you, struggling with one of these complex pitches would be very non fun. And once it's up it's going to flap like crazy all night and keep you awake. This is why the VAST majority of people who spend much time in exposed terrain where these pitches might be needed use a shaped tarp or tent. Use at your own risk.

    • @JTDOutdoors
      @JTDOutdoors 25 дней назад

      if your tarps flapping in the wind and you cant pitch them fast a tarp probably isnt for your. use at your own risk is is just a reply from somone who dosnt have the skill to adequately and efficiently use one 👍

    • @tullochgorum6323
      @tullochgorum6323 25 дней назад

      @@JTDOutdoors I have a fair bit of skill with tarps, and know people who are very skilled indeed. None of them use unshaped tarps on exposed pitches in UK or Scandi conditions. I've literally never seen a flat tarp being used in exposed terrain here in Scotland in the decades I've been tramping our hills. In our conditions tarpers are are using options like the Trailstar or the Duomid, which are much faster to pitch and provide good wind performance. If you can find the motivation to pitch a 10x10 on tricky ground in a 40mph wind in the dark after an exhausting walk, good luck to you. Most us prefer to be more pragmatic.

    I change leaders often depending on fishing conditions and type of fly I’m throwing. I agree that a solid connection between the fly line and leader is the best way to achieve maximum transition of energy from the line to the leader and delivering the fly accurately. The problem is that each time you switch leaders you cut off a bit of fly line and eventually you cut back to the front taper. Perhaps this situation can be remedied by tying a longer butt section and then retie the middle and tip section as needed. This way there is less cutting back the end of the fly line

    • @JTDOutdoors
      @JTDOutdoors Месяц назад

      I started using SA smooth infinity. It's got a welded loop. I tie my leaders so they're about 2/3 the length of my rod with a perfection loop on one end to tie to the fly line and a tippet loop on the other to tie my tippet to. I haven't changed my fly line in almost 2 yrs.

    You probably know by now, but the third guyline goes in the back to pull it out and make more room in the back. You did actually have the correct amount of stakes, it's just that you set the front up incorrectly and used up that stake in the wrong place. The front is supposed to be setup all on the one farther out stake. That's why you will notice that there are two line lock adjusters on that front line. There's supposed to be a rams head shaped hook that goes on that line that you hook the doors to. You used your last stake for the back to hold your doors open instead of the rams head hook. If yours didn't come with the rams head they sell upgraded aluminum ones on Z-packs website. Which is a common thing we do to upgrade this tent anyways. It's been a year since this video so you probably know most of that already, but if not I hope it helps. They are really great tent's. I love mine!
