What really makes model airplane engines glow plugs work
Просмотров 1072 месяца назад
I this video I am showing how the reaction of the platinum wire with methanol causes the glow plug wire to heat up and ignite the fuel. Most people believe that the current passing through the wire is what causes the ignition. It is partially but the sustained ignition is from the reaction taking place with the glow plug element and the alcohol.

My Trip to see the Starship launch

My trip to watch the launch of the second Starship. It was quite a trip for me to do and I wanted to make a video I could share with my family and friends. It's not as much about the Starship as it about the experience. There's lots of youtubers much more knowledgeable about the spacecraft than I am. I'm an airplane guy that appreciates rocket scientists. They make bad ass noise to be sure. And...

Here's a video I made of the launch from the roof of the hotel where I stayed. I have some other video I am going to stitch together and create a video diary of my visit to Starbase and South Padre Island. The launch begins around the 3:30 mark. When I make my trip video, I will edit that out. I'm posting this video from my hotel on my way back home to Valley Center.

This is the second test with the airplane with sealed hinges. Compare this test with the previous test observing the tufts which are positioned to bridge the hinge gap. Upon comparison it can be noted that in the previous video, during inside pitch maneuvers, the tufts can be seen to rise indicating flow between the surface and the wing. The question is, does this impact the handling? IF it doe...

First when separation occurs during maneuvers and second leakage through the hinge line and resulting impact. The next video in this test effort is the same flight with sealed hinge lines. The brushless motors and LiPo batteries are game changers. I have been messing with electric power since the early nineties. I had an early electric helicopter powered with a brushed motor and NMh batteries that could lift off into a hover for about 15 seconds and it was done. Times really changed since then. All my UC planes have a Thimble release but I also incorporated a line that wraps around the horizontal. Being .made of wood I use two spikes to hold the Stuge in place. Just use a conventional pull.line. AJ

    Might be a great video to explain to chemtrail conspiracists why sometimes there are lots of contrails and some days none and why they seem to turn on and off.

    • @feman43
      @feman43 9 месяцев назад

      Interesting topic that I am not exactly an expert about although I am knowledgeable as a physicist and aircraft propulsion engineer. The bottom line is that the visibility of contrails is dependent on the temperature and relative humidity of the air the aircraft is passing through. I'll spend some time to see what I can come up with.

    • @k1ng401
      @k1ng401 9 месяцев назад

      @@feman43 one of the advantages I was thinking is that other videos of the flight show the altitude the rocket was at at different times so if you could synchronise that, you could explain how the contrail starts at x altitude and stops at Y altitude and maybe compare that with a Lapse Rate/Dew point chart (or whatever they are called, it’s been so long) for that area in that day. I would assume the contrail will nicely coincide with certain breaks in the chart.

      It wasn't unsuccessful as their mission statement prior to launch was clearly stated to successfully stage separate the booster and second stage which they did accomplish. Many in the media and others don't fully understand what it takes to build and fly such a large rocket. To which they make the headline statement SpaceX failed again as Starship explodes. Most rocket systems undergo similar test "failures" on the road to success.
