This tutorial goes over how to set up the background, focusing on key character composition and layout and getting the image ready for a ROUGH submission. After that we explore techniques of how to refine and get the image a bit more rendered for presentation purposes.

underrated!!!
I love 2,3,4, but i would love to see how would you finish the second
Been loving all the videos, thanks for uplouding is really insightful
Awesome! So cool seeing it in process, such a clean finish.
Fire, keep up the good work!
Gawd damn! Incredible work bro.
Thank you so much for the incredible demonstration; it was truly insightful! Three years ago, I planned to attend a concept art school, but unfortunately, it closed due to the pandemic, so I’ve been studying online ever since. Currently, I’m practicing concept design composition and photobashing techniques. The part where you mentioned "BIG, MEDIUM, SMALL" really resonated with me. I’ve heard other artists emphasize the same concept when designing mechs, and it made me realize just how important it is. I’ve also purchased your Environment Design Basics from another site and plan to revisit the fundamentals to better express the world-building in my artwork. I will continue to work hard to become an artist like you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and inspiring me!
The more you upload these videos the more I feel that AI can never take the nature of what Concept Art is. Raw, Organic, Progressive. That's what most studios look for. Designs that they can build up on. NOT designs that they can just copy from a refined generated one. The more hope I feel for everyone! :)
Thank you so much for these videos!! I really like how you go through your process and explain, it's really well done and i feel like I'm gaining alot from your videos!!
How about a "Real TIme" episode of The Process?
would love to! Sometimes it just gets a bit slow and long...but wouldnt mind doing a real time painting video
amazing work!
appreciate it!
I really appreciate seeing how you tackle images beyond the grand landscape. I never know how to use photobashing on images that have more “specific” things like characters in a distinct pose, or close-quarters, interiors and kid shots. Was really informative to watch your “wallpapering process and how it gives you a jumping-off point to work off of. I like stylized work and to hand paint things, but I’m sure I could be making it easier in mysef in some of the information laying by using some photos in the midst. Thank you for sharing your experience with us, James!
thanks!!!! its all from the feedback in the comments! Thanks for the support
James, this one is so good. It's like we get to shadow you at work, and see how a pro does their job. I really appreciate this insight, it's hard to find, especially considering you're doing this for free. You've got a fan for life.
oh man....thanks! thats kind of the approach I wanted to go for! Thank you
😮😮😮😧😮😮😯😯😲😲😲👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍

@@tripplejaz thank you!!!!!
1-2-3 Mostly 3
I love all of them pretty much! Great video :D My fav would be 2 and 4 ;)
Thanks for sharing your knowledge James. Any of them would look great. To me 3 is the one that catch my eye the most but I'd like to see how 2 looks when rendered.
Def the purple thumbnail ❤
i would like to see finished version of sketch 2 or 4 :)
like it. thank you
Another banger of a video. Thank you!
Thank you so much!!
I love 4!
Awesome :) Thank you!
3!
2 and 4 thumbnails are good, maybe combine them?
numlber 3 because 3 is a magic number! :D
I truly love how you painted these thumbnail, James! Will definintely try this method. Also, I pick number 2 :D
The ideas behind 2 and 4 are really cool. 1 and 3 have clearer compositions, just have seen m before... I'd go for 4 with a more sunset look. like an Egyptian Nile vibe.. can be super dope.
2 or 4 😁
Number 3 nd 2🥷🥷 r awesome
Thank you James for your tutorial, hope you draw sci-fi props in the next video ❤
James, thank you for your tutorials! I watched your lessons over a decade ago and I still continue to learn new things from you!
Thank you!!!!! 🙏
Awesome! 3 and 4 are my favorites !
Number 3 Looks really cool!!!
one of my favorites too
The purple one !
noted!!
This is just awesome to see a master of our generation work, really love the long format video slow and showing every step of it (knowing you don't have the time for it ofc). Also I am terrified of mistakes and seeing you deal with it casually like that makes wanna make em too. Thank you so so much James 🙏
really appreciate that comment. Thank you and thanks for the support! Thank you!
