    Great video mate, i have visited Folkestone Habour recently and took a walk along this abandoned Harbour station which is now open to the public for tourist attraction, the signal box by the station is now a coffee shop, i've read in Kent local paper recently that there are talk of the North of the line to be turn into a tram line as there now a summer market, i last visited Folkestone Harbour coming on the train from Folkestone East over 20 years ago, Shame the line had to close would be good for tourist now as they visit the Harbour Arms.

    Silly how there are so many tracks (at least 8) at that junction yet the train to the harbour and the passenger train which zips past at the start of the video get just a single track each. Guess it would derail if it went any faster and that bridge looks like it's ready to collapse. No investment and no redundancy so one little track fault and the whole network goes down which sounds about right for British rail!

    The third rail looks rusty..was it ever used? If the branch had been electrified much earlier than it was a couple of powerful 3rd rail electric locos might have been v successful with heavy trains and eliminated the need for all those tank engines... am I right or wrong?

    • @LewisCollard
      @LewisCollard 3 года назад

      It was indeed used - it ran electric trains from 1962 until (presumably) the end of regular services in 2001, so that's about six years of surface rust on the third rail. As for the speculative part: Probably! The Southern Railway did have some success with third-rail locos hauling large freight loads (the CC1 and CC2).

    • @ianhosier4042
      @ianhosier4042 2 года назад

      Not just the third rail that is rusty and look at the state of those bridges! If the train went any faster it would end up in the harbour!

    • @Jothetrainneeek
      @Jothetrainneeek Год назад

      the line was turned into a single track 2000 even though the you can see the other one and the trains used to come london Victoria and reverse into those sidings. when they reduced the amount of ferrys with the opening of the channel tunnel which eventually lead to closure of all ferry’s in 2000 the line shut in 2009 (officially 2014)however after the 2000 it was only gala devices or special trains that went down there however they still use the sidings in the first bit

      Agree. Though the staple diet on VSOE operations is the Class 67 either heading or one located top and tail. 'Shed' must have been some sort of substitution for a 'Skip' shortage that day. Would most likely have adjoined at Folk East rather than been top and tailed down from London Vic. Thanks for that :o)

    Well the media were wrong yet again, of course many of the original features still exist, they were just covered over and somewhat abused with modern facades and tacky corporate crap. The outside and windows have been restored, the inside is ongoing. An operator of the auditorium (however the council choose to move forward with the space and blocked balcony) is some years off though.
