Primal Van Life

Добавлен 8 дек 2014
I own a VW T4 Syncro campervan that I converted back in 2006 and also VW T4 Syncro DOKA that I bought in 2014 which is being converted. I have setup this channel and also a blog to capture information on converting, travelling, cooking, good times, bad times and anything else I think of that might be of interest.
Fitting an aftermarket bumper on a VW T4 Syncro
I’ve never really liked the colour coded bumper on my T4 Syncro Doka.
So today rather than being apathetic I decided to fit a bumper I bought off Just Kampers a few weeks ago. I knew it would need a bit of trimming and I’d have to cut a hole for the gearbox cooling vent. Like most jobs I undertake, 30 to 40 percent of the time was spent looking for tools, in total it took me a couple of hours from start to finish.
It’s a fairly easy job, probably a 1 out of 5 but most of the agro was because the Just Kampers bumper didn’t quite fit as well as standard but got there in the end. 😀

I’ve been working on the interior of the demountable camper. I’ve made a fold up counter top, some new cupboard doors and finally decided where I’ll fit the compressor coolbox.

I'm trying to get the demountable finished next month hopefully. I know its been some time since I upload a video so my apologies, I sort of fell out with the project but now I'm really focused and committed to getting it finished. I've also been offered some help by a good friend of mine Patrick which should speed things up.

VW T4 Syncro Cheap DIY Suspension lift Part 1 - Lowering the rear diff
Просмотров 27 тыс.8 лет назад
This video briefly explains the first stage of raising the suspension on a T4 Syncro. Its a good idea to lower the rear diff so as you do not run the rear drive shafts at too acute angle which could put stress on the CV joints. The height of the spacers is 21mm for the rear spacer and 15mm for the front spacer. Rather than using solid pieces of ali bar with holes drilled in the centre like me, ...
Update of what has been happening

I've not posted a video since the end of last year, so I thought it was about time to get cracking. The Suntrekker must be finished soon because I'm selling my house and will be effectively house less and will need somewhere to live, even if I don't sell my house it would be good to get some use out of it.
Fitting a speed controller to a roof vent fan on a T4 Syncro camper van
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.9 лет назад
Today we fitted a cheap eBay motor speed control to the Fiamma Turbo vent on my friends T4 Syncro. This was so he could slow the fan down as it was only single speed and quite noisy, he needed it to be usable whilst he slept at night. Now it can be slow down so it is whisper quiet. We bought the speed controller from www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10A-DC-12V-24V-36V-25Khz-DC-Motor-Speed-PWM-Control-Control...

Side panel locker construction

I obtained some aluminium frames for construction the side locker doors. It took nearly 50 feet of angle grinder cutting to get the cut out, this is a good way to upset your neighbours.
Quick update, Gas hob removed, smev sink test and floor started

Not much has happened on the demountable as I've had problems with my T4 Van, looks like the big ends may have gone :( Just waiting to get a second opinion. In terms of the demountable, I've started work on the floor, removed the gas hob and started fitting the smev sink.

It's a T4, not a Type 4. A type 4 is a VW 411 or 412. Also, there's no such thing as a Type 25, that's a T3. All vw Transporters are Type 2. A split is a Type 2 T1. A Bay is a Type 2 T2. A wedge is a Type 2 T3 etc etc. You have a Type 2 T4.
Ok cool, thanks for putting me right 😀

Mr. Hauskatze they are BF Goodrich Mud Terrains 225 / 75 16”
Where did you get that rack from …on the blue van
It’s a rhino roof rack off a T5, they’d spelt rhino wrong on the eBay advert and I won it for £10.50 😀
Hi would you like to sell the Doka?
Not at the moment but thanks for asking
Ok 👍 when you do please let me know
Great video mate, thanks for posting. I may need a new front wing on my t4 and was wondering how easy it is to remove the bumper to get to the lower fittings. Now I know. Cheers.
Cheers. The wings are held on with about 7 or 8 bolts so you can drop them off in a few minutes. 👍
That's great to know. Thanks again.
@@primalvanlife5581 Some of the T4's (Short nose) the wings are welded on. Wondering how easy it is to cut them off and refit with a bolted one.
I imagine it would be tricky as the bolt holes won’t be there. My mate needs new wings on his van and it’s an early one with the welded on wings so I’ll have a look when he cuts them off.
Hello, Could you please tell me how is you roof rack mounted? I do have the same, but i don't remember how it was mounted. Thank you
Hi, the Rhino roof rack is bolted through the rain cutter. I don’t particularly like bolting it here as it impedes the flow of water however I did for two reasons. To keep the rack as low as possible and the other reason is that the metal is triple thickness in places in the gutter as it’s where panels meet and the roof cross members finish.
Where's the part 2?
Need the Syncro the hole in the bumper for cooling the gearbox or a Syncro part? I got an Syncro to from 2002 with same bumper but with no hole
Rudi #23 you should have the hole for extra cooling, lines up with a hole in the belly pan. Hopefully the part is still available.
no part 2 ?
fabien vie en fourgon/van apologies, i haven’t got round to it but you comment has prompted me to get it done soon
@@primalvanlife5581 yes your videos are really interesting ! keep going 👍
Hello there from sunny Devon been watching all ur videos flat out, just wonderd if you are still looking at doing something else instead of the trekker im looking for exactly this if your interested in selling it my email is e.s.a.w@hotmail.co.uk cheers ed
Hi Ned, yes I’m still probably going to sell it. I’ve still got a few jobs to do and I’m hopefully going to have it finished at the end of the month.
Van Life give us an email on price can you if that’s cool? Don’t want to mess you about if I can’t afford it cheers
Nice job clive 👍
harleywainie thanks 🙏😀
Sick video! Stop by and leave some positive energy on my latest video! Looking forward to seeing you there!
Hi what made you bin this project? Im in the process of doing one, cheers Dave
Hi Dave, the main reason is that it just doesn’t look quite right on the truck, this is because the suntrekker is a bit narrow for the bed really. The other reason is that I prefer to mainly wild camp in my van and the DOKA just stands out too much with the demountable on. I’m now planning to release be the bed and add a grp cargo body that is permanently attached to the DOKA, and have it kitted out like a basic camper van, that’s all I need really. It won’t be very big, approx 9ft long and 6ft 6 wide, I’ve not decided on the height yet but not too tall. What have you got?
hi ive got a Multicruiser its a big old girl, very heavy so im fitting airbags to help. Are you on the T4 Forum? i could send you a pm, Dave
Hi Dave, would be interested to see what you’re doing. Is yours a syncro? I’am on the forum but don’t use it much. I have a blog at t4syncro.com and there is a contact page that will send the message via email and I can email you back. Cheers Clive
what did happen - isit finished ?
I did pretty much finish the interior, I needed it out of the way as I was selling my house so shifted it to a friends house. Planning to move it back to my place next week to finish a few bits. I decided I don’t really like the concept or look so I’m planning to sell just the demountable in spring. I still have the truck and the new plan is to build a grp box that sits on the back permanently. This is definitely going to happen as I’ve recently been given a price for the 50mm thick foam core grp panels and I’m speaking to a guy at my gym next week who builds truck bodies and he’s going to give me a hand. Hopefully I’ll add a video soon and I plan to document the build process for the new pod.
I wish you good effort ...I was looking a long time for a T4 with 4 wheel drive ,but in Germany you pay a fortune on a car that is in good shape while they have all mostly more than 250.000 km on the counter...:-D
aratanatar thanks for that and I wish you good luck in finding a T4 syncro for a reasonable price 😀
Any word on when part 2 is going to be out? :)
I use mastic strips for the seal lasts longer than sika , good video ta
i have just bought one of these vents and while the cutting the hole is not a problem i am lost as to what wires go where if your able to help with that please ? as i am a carpenter not an auto electrician
big van ! my old grand voyager i fitted stainless steel tops looks slick - but quite heavy ! tip get a pro to cut it ! give him the template- as i found out i just ruined the stainless tops- trying to cut them!
Hi there loving the videos just a quick question and you probably heard it all before what size springs are using and shock absorbers ? I am yet to add my spaces to my Syncro I have already added some left but I would like to get a little bit more 😜 Thanks Nick uk Somerset 💪
It's the same as my last video but I got rid of the talking and shortened the video a bit.
Done it!
Great straight forward tutorial.
Thank you
You should eather keep the window for light inside or maybe put a oneway window for some more privacy. Just a idea. Im watching all your video's in one time. Like it a lot. Keep it up. The camera is a big upgrade :-) Greetings from Belgium Erik
Thanks Erik and thanks for the comments. Not much has been done lately to the demountable as I've been concentrating on getting my other van on the road. It is now up and running so hopefully after Xmas I can start working on the demountable again and posting some more videos. Cheers Clive
A few of our members have owned suntrecker's in the past demountablecampergroup.com
I will check out the forum and also subscribe to your channel, hopefully you'll do the same. Thanks
Great job buddy.... It's taking shape.. Keep going. Jeff
Keep it buddy... I'm watching,I think your doing well.! And you also have a blue van?! Jeff
Thanks Jeff, I'm trying to do at least one job per day, even if it's a small one. Yes, I also have a blue VW T4 Syncro (4x4). I'll give a bit of a tour of it as soon as I get it emptied; I'm using it as a bit of a shed at the moment. :)
would love to see you finish that projekt! keep them coming! Good Video
Thanks. I should be getting back to work on it very soon now the weather has improved and will post another video. Cheers
