Im a new MTG paper player and went to see the arena, im from yugioh also, so i have master duel as a base, what i found out: Yes Yugioh doesnt have free packs from real boosters, BUT master duel is pretty much entirely free to play. Arena on the other hand brings too much grind for little reward. When you first log in and complete master duels's quests, you can literally make a tier 1 deck zero grind. When you first log and complete arena's quests you have a very bad and noob deck with few card types and will mostly play very long games (10 turns +) Mtg as a whole is an expensive tcg, but i have to say this: its the best tcg, not much bully decks, not much extra long games, very balanced over all

Can this be played with 3-4 players as well? Just add extradecks of lands?

Buying packs is only good for the newest set, because only the newest set counts towards golden pack progression. Jump In! is good until you start getting playsets (4 copies) or rare cards. Packs have duplicate protection, Jump In! does not. Premier Drafts give you better rewards than Quick Drafts, at least as long as you manage to get 3 wins; Premier Drafts give you almost nothing for less than 3 wins. Also Quick Drafts (ironically) give you more time deciding which card to pick.

I loved learning how how you play out spells to pump prowess. I’m running a Rakdos Prowess deck and stuck on Platinum tier 3 getting destroyed by mono black and orzhov decks

I played Magic in high school, then stopped playing when I went to college in 1999. I got back into it just in time for the Neon Dynasty prerelease, and ended up playing a *lot* of Strixhaven (I am a mathematician who teaches at a community college---the Quandrix flavor was spot on for me, both in terms of the fractal creatures and the academic infighting). I bought a ton of boosters to draft with, and kind of accidentally ended up with a Strixhaven cube. My cube is a little less thought out---4 copies over each common, 2 of each uncommon, and 1 of each rare / mythic. I did not include the Mystical Archive cards, as they felt too "swingy" for me *and* some of them quite expensive, and I didn't want to buy a second set for my cube (I have a complete set of the Mystical Archives in a binder). I have the cube sorted into (a) lessons, (b) commons, (c) uncommons, and (d) rares/mythics. To create a pack for drafting, I select cards at random: 1 lesson (could be any rarity), 9 commons, 3 uncommons, and 1 rare/mythic. This is basically the structure of the original packages, minus the Mystical Archive card. I have *really* enjoyed playing the set this way, but I very much get what you are saying about dead cards in the limited environment. I am going to have to look at what you have done, and maybe move some cards around. That being said, I would still like keep things on the Plane of Arcavios. There are a few cards from MoM and Aftermath to pull in (e.g. I like that the Phyrexians did not do away with tenure when they arrived, and that the Tenured Oilcaster still has a job), and I am optimistic that the return to Strixhaven set will let me make a much better cube when the time comes, but options are a bit limited at the moment.

This is a stupendously incorrect view of human psychology. The problem is simple. You have to take into account. Human psychology. Pure randomness is bad game design. A player missing 3, 75% shots in a row is bad game design. Let's say you were to tell the player this? 1. The odds to hit an enemy is purely random. The odds you see on screen are you're odds to hit. 2. You will never miss 3 75% shots in a row. But the difference will be secretly subtracted from your next 3 shots. It won't dhow on screen. It will just act as RNG protection Which system do you think the average player will settle for? System a or b?

Everything seems slow AF and it takes forever to get these cards. I'm trying to start here after playing paper forever and honestly so far this is is so freaking slow and aggravating

I think I'll do this with Lorwyn/Shadowmoor. It'd be cool to show some of my friends who are newer to Magic how the older draft formats felt back in the day

As someone who has thought about playing either mtg:a or hearthstone, I feel like there's more variety in decks with mtg:a. Im someone who would only play free so this is very helpful.

I love the UW Defenders deck. I have roughly a 60% win rate with it on Arena's best of 1 Standard Ranked games. Does anyone have any good suggestions for how I can upgrade this deck? I've thought about adding Surge Engine. I'm also not sure if I should stick to 60 cards or use more cards. I'm also curious if anyone has experience using any of these decks in more competitive events with rewards.

What you're doing, when shaping the game to fit you needs - seems like a much better idea than go with [insert random format]. (which was my predominant approach)

I was doing a mission and was trying to hack a chest for a ‘20%’ unlock chance option. I ended up spending literally 57 minutes from save to me giving up on this because I never actually got this 20% chance. Assuming I was making 2 attempts per minute I made a total of 114 attempts and not once did I even get above a 75% success rating. I think when it comes to hacking there is DEFINITELY something wrong, as what was indicated as a 1/5 chance turned out to be a chance above 1/114 which is less than 1%. I will never know what the actual amount of attempts it would take to get this would be considering I gave up at basically the hour mark. But I would assume it is far far higher if not just straight up impossible. I decided to use a random number generator online from 0-100 and managed to get a number of 94 in 5 attempts. Something is definitely wrong with xcom 2 hacking. My tech score was 65 and the tech score of the crate was 80. If I had to guess this means the maximum percentage I could obtain would be 65% given my experience. However trying to hack with a different character with a tech score of 10 still indicated a 3% chance to successfully hack the option I was trying for. Btw I switched to rookie mode halfway through to improve my chances, but this did nothing. Please try this out for yourself, I think the game is just straight up lying/wrong when it comes to hacking and it is never ever worth it to try and attempt a hack below a 65% success chance because this is where roughly 50% of my hacking attempts ended at.

returning player, did all the color challenge and got into ranked. i haven't made a deck yet just playing the saddle up starter deck and its done amazing for me. I want to build a deck for the new season to start my grind on rank ladder... i have 13 rare, 8 mythic, 12k Gold and 6k Gems. show me the way brother lmao. what do you recommend?

I haven’t spent any money on Arena since 2019. I currently have something like 300 unopened packs and around 600,000 gold. That’s not because I’m a really good player, that’s just because I play quite often. And with the 50% forced win/lose ratio, I’ve realized that the easiest way to both rank up and earn wild cards and that stuff is due. Just play a lot of games. Play aggro mostly, those games may last only about six or seven turns. You could have a aggro deck that only has about a 51% wine ratio, outperform a blue white control that has a 80% win ratio, but takes 30 minutes per game. I don’t waste my time on games that I’m obviously meant to lose. You can tell if you’re gonna win or lose a game usually within the first three turns.

Only play quick-draft if you think it's fun, otherwise it's a waste of time. It's a game after all not a job. If you play a mode you don't like you may get tire of it and drop the game.

Hey just started standard I'm running the budget defender deck it's fun. One thing (and don't mean to encroach not even a week in but I play some commander irl) one change I made was taking one lay down arms for the legendary in the starting black white deck she doubles triggered abilities for anything power under 2 (Chaplain counts). No wild card and I just had a round where I had over 40 creatures on the board with 6 mana used over the turns.

why do some of these not appear in my search feature, for example DUSK MANGLER. I can't find him nor can I craft him. What causes that?
