@@Henrik1968 Yups 14 years can be a freaking long time!! Some kits where quite bad, some where quite decent. But my current 2 harness combinations are waaaaay better than all of them I had in the past years!! Can't wait for my legharness!!

Well yes. It is overall quite a cheap bascinet helmet and therefor not that properly made. But not the less, it is solide and quite a decent enough helmet! It is the first helmet my boyfriend got his hands on. The cord will be removed and replaced by a belt so it looks nicer and is easier to open and close. The hinges are not suitable for any modifications. So a belt around it will do just fine!

It is the helmet from my boyfriend. He just got it a week ago. He doesn't wear that much armour yet, but I do (like you see in the video) so I wanted to fit it to so how it would fit when wearing armour. I have to say it is an really nice helmet and lighter than it looks like!! It is from Battlemerchant.com.

@@Henrik1968 Ah yes indeed. The movement is just a bit limited and it takes just a few mins to really get use to it. At the end Jan (my student) did fight quite well in it!!

@@cheeseballenjoyer5364 Well okay, what's wrong with it!? It is a historical correct helmet that was used during the late 14th century from 1370 til around 1430.

It cries for mail. Its a gorgeous helmet. It deserves mail. Or scales!

@@TheCraziestFox but it has maille!! It is a so called covered maille aventail. Its a paddded/quilted liner with maille over it and covered with cloth/fabric. Its was done during the late 14th till first half if the 15th century. It was a status symbol for the mid and high nobility.

It was not really needed because we where fighting with plastic trainingswords and only focusing on the hands. The risk of hitting anyone at the face/head was really low.

Yups indeed it is! It is really something you have to train to get used to it. What helps is wearing the helmet indoors at home when doing the shores. Doing the dishes, folding clothes, etc etc. The vision is less of a problem tho. Its mostly the heat and the lack of a good breathing. But yeah that's also something you can train yourself.

Well, a viking style centered grip shield is a shield. Its quite big and light. The grip was protected by the shieldboss. It was designed this way so it was more usefull in shieldwall formations. It would be hard when you have leather horizontal, diagonal or vertical straps to hold the shield. Then have to bend you arm more and thst could be hard during a shieldwall. Also when its centered gripped, it is easier to deflect trusts because the shield will rotate when it get hit. I hope this anwers your question. 😁

Another fun fact about viking shields is the edges were made thin on perpous so they could trap a sword if someone swung down in the rim of the shield.

Well the way you hold the buckler in combination wich way you make your attack gives you indeed quite some defence. However a buckler is small so its kinda tricky to rely completely on the small surface pf the buckler. Sooo basacly yes you can use it as a shield, but should you!? That's kinda the question. I would rather use it like it was invented: to protect the hand wielding the weapon.
