The Silk Rags Project Project

The Silk Rags Project
The Silk Rags Project is an Australian award-winning educational, reading and listening experience that explores the theme of communication strategies when a friend receives a cancer diagnosis.
Whilst undergoing cancer treatments, Briohne Sykes and Dee Handyside separately created a script and musical album which covered the experience.
Originally a mini musical for Community Theatres, the project has now been re-designed post Covid to become a Host at Home/office/book club/community group package where participants meet, role-play characters from the script and listen to the soundtrack in-between scenes.

Powerful. Wonderful.
I’m wondering how old is this town and how did it get its name

My ancestors (Relf) came from Burwash. They emigrated to Australia in the first part of the 19th century. The oldest daughter of the family later moved to and married in California. I hope to visit Burwash one day. It looks like a lovely place.
I am from Burwash and have a Relf in my family tree on my mothers side.she was a Morris. Married to a Whapham
Brilliant xx

This is fantastic! I would love to see/hear more from Briohne about her play!
Dee, you are truly amazing. Everyone at the party loved you and your music, thank you for making it so special. And now I know you are very special. Stay healthy and happy, best regards, Hamel xx
Rock on, Dee! :)
Hi Lorddom81, Eddie Workman is my uncle so I'll ask him if he has a copy! Just to let you know - if you haven't already seen it, there is a video on my channel here called TEN performed by ReturnNorth. That is my band and i wrote it about Burwash school and then filmed there a couple of years ago when i re-visited. it has had the most amazing result - no room to write it on here but if interested message me! cheers
I was enjoying a nice invigorating "streak" around my local village church during the service last Sunday - that was until the Vicar caught me by the organ...!
@rodmunch99 Hi ex Burwash Boy! How are you? big news! after a very long wait, my album and single are released. Endorsed as a fundraiser for the Australian Cancer Research foundation. Please check out utube 'peachey club thank you friends' and share by email as much as you can - 100% of the funds from the single to ACRF - album is 10% and available from iTunes and ABC shops Australia. Thanks! deex
What wonderful memories. I lived there from 1938 to 1956, when I emmigrated to Canada. My mother ran the post office from late 40's to mid 50's. I was a choir boy soloist. It will always be my home. Geoff Matthews
I went to Burwash today when I visited Bateman's - I loved every second of it! This video really does help me relive my experience :)
roger daltrys home town
its an AWESOME village dude i live dere
Outstanding! Patrick
@LONDONGULL Hi (Simon?) Actually no, I didn't forget your Dad. The very last shot of the Union Jack at half mast was in honour of your Father, Mike, who had passed away that week. It was filmed at the village fete. He was a great bloke who did a lot for the village. Really really glad that you found this video, take care, dee
Thank you so much for your feedback! I too now live in Australia, Gold Coast - so I made it for 2 reasons - 1) as a reminder to me and 2) to promote the village community - there is only 1 tea shop left (as well as the Bear), and the gift shop has closed down too. Don't know when you lived there but my Grandfather and Uncle (The Workmans) ran the village grocer shop! regards Dee
