Labor Day Hike and POTA!
We had a beautiful labor day here in Indiana so I decided to go for a hike in Brown County State Park. The trail I chose included a hill that was over 1000' (which is pretty high for our area). I took advantage of the elevation and did a Parks on the Air activation. I wanted to test the reach of my HT (Yaesu ft-60) so I tried to reach a repeater 2 counties away from my location. I hit the repeater because I got the report from it but i didn't have a strong enough signal to get my voice through. Pretty cool to at least reach it though. All in all it was an amazing hike and a beautiful day. Thanks for watching and be sure to follow along for more adventures!

First Ever SOTA Activation!

This was a tough activation! Which seems fitting considering it is my first ever Summits on the Air activation. @@DonPorter-i9u absolutely. The Bioenno battery is great. I've never run out of power with it. Even during long activations.
You should have tried the Signature 12 - or even 18 LOL!

Pretty neat historical buildings though! And we passed the City Museum on the way, what a cool place! I want to return to give that place a proper visit.
Might check and see if you guys have a specific freq for activations in your area. For example in PHX where I live we have a specific freq on 2m for activations etc.

I had a tough day activating a park Sunday, first time ever had issues with a EFHW getting bad reports of RF. Eventually stopped at 26 QSO’s and took down antenna feeling the coil part of it which was extremely warm, antenna failure but park activated. Sometimes we all have problems.. thanks for the video. 73

It may look like the summit but sometimes it’s not the actual summit. SOTA goat will verify you’re on the actual summit and within activation zone. 73 de N1YLO

Thanks! I agree. I prefer to hike and do things outdoors in the winter, so much better. Accept maybe camping, it's nice to have more daylight for that.

That reliance is a really good antenna! I've got the Bugout mini model, it's what we used for Pink's first SOTA.
