Utility RFI impulse noise tracking tips
Nice. I've been looking everywhere for the L96 with cam. Thanks for a overview.
@@krisyaz1545 you’re very welcome I was in the same boat which is why I documented it the best I could
What’s the setup?
As of now it’s cam, vvt delete, long tube headers, and e85
@Brksblake how much power are u making?
@@westcoast443a little over 400whp and about 420 ft lbs
@Brksblake that's a very good power! What's the mpg and are u using a different torque converter?
@@westcoast443its a huge difference over stock that’s for sure! I get about 9-10 around town and 12-14 on the highway when I’m running e85. When I run 87 or 93 the mileage is significantly better but I only run those fuels when e isn’t available. This is the factory converter and it drives just fine.
What version of HP tuner's do you have? MPVI2?
@@scottzito4797 I am using the mpvi3 and their latest beta version
Sounds great Bud 👌🏻
@@luiscarrasquillo9743 thank you sir
Thanks for the vid helped a ton
@@Dieseldrive that’s great to hear! Glad it helped.
I’m about to do a 2011 cam and vvt delete do you have a parts list your truck sounds good
@@danielharker4655 I’m pretty sure I go over all of them in my install video. But I have a cam retainer plate a new front cover valve springs and a cam plus all the gaskets for the water pump. Also you’ll need a 3 bolt cam gear and the bolts. I also have long tube headers and I kept the factory muffler.
How much torque did you gain down low?
@@thunderhammer1937 I didn’t have a stocky dyno comparison to go by but I know that it picked up. I feel it in the driver seat.
Nice build man I'm a workin man as well plumber actually lol I have basically same truck and have been looking at the torqstorm supercharger kits very well priced and add nice power. Appriciate the videos
@@tylermears480 thank you brother! Hell yeah I’ve looked into them a few times they look awesome for the price. I haven’t wanted to commit because they require electric fans and my ecm can’t control an electric fan. Glad you like the videos I should have some more coming soon.
Which headers did you go with?
@@jacobsargent7627 those are speed engineering 1 3/4 long tubes with a custom made y pipe
@@Brksblake should I order lifters as well. I’m doing the VVT Delete
@@jacobsargent7627 how many miles on the truck? Typically no you wouldn’t need to replace the lifters but if yours are worn out it wouldn’t hurt to do them. But that’s going to be a head gasket job as well. I have a video on my page of me doing the job
@@Brksblake okay. Just over 200K 2007 2500HD 6.0 LY6
@@jacobsargent7627 that’s up to you then I think you would be fine without doing lifters. Personally I would with that mileage because you never know and you’re going to have her broken down. Then again you may never have a single lifter issue hahaha.
I'm wanting to put a cam in, but I want to keep the VVT because you end up loosing low end torque without it, move the whole power band up in RPM and that doesn't seem great for a tow vehicle, which is what I primarily use mine for. Finding it hard to find videos on a VVT cam swap.
@@sergeantseven4240 the issue there is finding a tuner that will tune vve. But I’m telling you if you spec the right cam you’re not going to lose anything if i could go back and do it again, I’d do the truck Norris cam because it actually picks up down low the cam I went with stayed about the same.
@Brksblake I've seen a few low rpm high torque cams available. Trying to decide on what to get. There are some vvt cams available that come with a cam phaser limiter kit. Waiting to pick up an HP tuner first and go from there. Just not a lot of information available on the vvt setups because most of these motors end up in swaps.
@@sergeantseven4240 very true another reason why I deleted it. If you go with a non vvt setup and need help with tuning or anything. Feel free to reach out
Thanks man, same exact place works for the 1500s. There’s a 10mm nut on a stud to mount the ground on behind the brake and gas pedal area also in case anyone was wondering.
@@channelnotinuse-u7d awesome so glad to hear that! Also thank you for the insight
Your going to turbo?
@@holeshot1721 at some point
What orange ratchet is that?
@@drew5992 I’ll double check on the brand but it’s just one I found on Amazon. It’s worked great
Did you have to change your push rods with that cam?
I did not.
What cam did you go with? And how bad did that kill your mileage? When I bought my truck it had an awesome tune and I was getting around 18 mpg empty and 13.5 or so with my 35'camper, concrete blocks and 2 1200# tool boxes in the bed on 295s. But a mechanic wiped that tune. Since then, I haven't seen over 14 mpg. Any help would be appreciated.
Thinking about a cam also…. Did your gas mileage change?
Yes it went up but that had a lot to do with the the lack of cats, headers, and tuning. I can’t say what will happen if you keep the factory manifolds and cats. But I definitely recommend it.
@@Brksblake thanks hero
Dude……. THANK YOU!!!! I can’t say it enough
Man you’re so welcome so glad you got something from it!!
Quick question though. Did you use the OBD2 can bus port? I ended up buying the one without it and I’ve tried to use the serial connection but I can get the scanner to pick it up
@@militantmafia7354 I did use the can bus one and it was because of the difficulty the serial connection can have goatropegarage has a video how to get the serial to read.
Apparently turning the computer off and back on is not the same as restarting it. After restarting it I can see everything how I’m supposed to. 😂 seems crazy but hey I made it 😮💨😅
@@militantmafia7354 awesome hahaha glad you got it working!!
It’s pulling a small, empty dump trailer. These don’t have pulling power, don’t stay under 2000rpm, and certainly aren’t winning any fuel ecomany awards. But they sure get ran hard, put away wet, and always come back for more. Much more financially feasible than a diesel if towing 10k or under
16’ dump trailer is small? Definitely not the biggest load I’ve pulled with it though. When you tune them and let them breath better they definitely come to life a lot more. You’re not wrong about them being tough, I see them getting the dog piss worked out of them.
Are you sponsored by coors now? Lol
Shit I wish hahah
Hey man i have question. i input all that injector data but my injector are flooding my engine with way to much fuel...any suggestions? same truck as yours ecm38 i know that matt says its different for gen 4 from the video he did...but i can figure out what else can i do .....
Did you scale them by 50% along with the afr and double the ve air
I also did have to dial my ve and maf back once I put them in
@@Brksblake so what i did i scale the injectors by 50% and input all the injector data...just like the video...then i seen another video where he doubles the stoich AFR...but my truck wouldn't turn on after that so i left back to what it was.... What afr and ve air table are you talking about?
@@guerolil I was talking about the stoich afr as well. Did you make changes to the ivt afr? Also have you tried logging your fuel trims? You can take those and pull air from your virtual volumetric and maf to get it running and dial them in from there. That’s what I did because even after putting in the data for the injectors I was on the rich side. Also while dialing them in you might want to zero out the offset vs inj temp it can throw for a loop with bad data. Then reset it once you’re finished. Hope this helps reach out with more questions and I’ll do my best to help I’m still learning as well haha.
@@Brksblake hey man i have not made changes to the Ivt afr..my fuel trims for bank 1 are 28% and bank 2 are -25 let me ask you is there any way you might be able to make a video regarding the changes to maf and ve table to show me what you did? how's your truck running with the new injectors? really appreciate the feed back..
For the love of God, thank you! Nothing on AEM’s website even got me close. I call that eight minutes of my life. Well spent thank you again.
I’m so glad to hear that! Everything I post for the most part, are things I had a hard time finding myself. So please keep watching the page you may seem something else.
Certified badass. What cam and mods
Btr stage 2 truck cam long tube headers Deka 80lb injectors tune and e85
High pressure oil pump?
No sir it’s the same one that came in it from the factory. I gained over 20 psi in oil pressure when I did the cam and deleted the vvt.
Straight pic or I use a little nail most of the time lol you got it done though.
I used what I had on me hahaha but a straight pick would have been perfect!

Hey, great video, and I liked the tip about the AM radio. I wanted to mention that you can also use a phone toner wand if you have one for detecting this kind of noise. More importantly though, I wanted to mention that you should protect yourself by using a foreign voltage detector before you touch any of these ground wires. There can sometimes be quite a lot of voltage and/or current on these ground wires. If the connection is corroded at the bottom, you may give a very large potential access to ground through you. I came across one a number of years ago where there was an AM radio broadcast antenna right across the street from a subs' home, and copper thieves had cut nearly all the ground lines off the poles. There was ~600volts on the cable shielding at the CSE. His was the only home along that bit of road, so all that potential from about 12 spans was going to ground through his CSE.
Thank you for the tip I will give that a try if I ever get the opportunity to use one! Oh absolutely sir I keep one on me whenever I am going to touch or climb a pole I just didn’t document that part hahaha. Thanks for the feedback brother!
Great expression in your playing!
