Find the Bait & Find the Fish! | Kayak Fishing for Bass & Catfish
Fall is falling and the fishing is great! I launched the kayak and quickly found numerous schools of Threadfin Shad roaming high up in the column, as well as predators stalking and feeding on them. This led to some fast action, although it didn't last super long. After that it was off to find something to put in the cooler.

No Fishfinder? No Problem. | Kayak Fishing a Southern Reservoir for Dinner
Просмотров 409Месяц назад
Well I’ve got a cold, and I forgot my fish finder - brain fog from being sick I think. Despite these disadvantages the cooler still ends up filled and a good day had. I throw out live bait, and cast swimbaits on jigs. This was a fair day of kayak fishing that I was pleased with under the circumstances, especially the last fish!

I just got back from a vacation in Kyoto where I visited cultural landmarks, ate some AMAZING food, and all around had a great experience. Among other things I visited several fishing tackle shops and lemme tell you... Japan has some WILD tackle shops! Huge selections of all kinds of products ranging from things we typically see in the states, to some pretty crazy and out-there stuff. Here's wh...
Dropshot Fishing Boat Docks for Dinner + PB Caught! (in WEIRD Way)
Просмотров 5723 месяца назад
I'm having a fish fry tonight and I need to go grocery shopping first. On the Lake. Boat docks are a great place to find tasty critters milling about, so that will be the main target. Other than throwing a dropshot crawler at/around docks, I do a little bit of trolling (briefly just from one group of docks to another - why not right?). Lastly - I put down some cut bait in the hopes of finding a...

Tiny COUNTY POND was LOADED with BASS! (Bank Fishing)
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.4 месяца назад
I’ve never fished this pond before but I was in the neighborhood with a couple few hours to spare, and it did NOT disappoint! BASS WERE BITING and I also caught a few sunfish that I kept for some catfishing I had planned the following day. Most fish came on a Paddle Tail Shad, but I also fished a Crankbait and some Night Crawlers.

Fishing Live Bait to Catch Dinner from the Kayak | What Happened to this Fish?!
Просмотров 3186 месяцев назад
I take the kayak out to fish a couple pieces of structure, where I throw out bait (both cut and live). Let's see what will bite! I also catch a fish that appears to be otherwise healthy, but has clearly sustained a serious injury in its past. What do think happened to it?
The Bite was COMPLETELY INSANE! | NON-STOP Action Kayak Fishing for Hybrid Striped Bass
Просмотров 5156 месяцев назад
Despite a pretty average start this day got HOT & HEAVY! Originally the plan was to drop live baits on some strategic spots, and troll my way from one to the next in the hopes of picking up a fish or 3 either way. At the first spot I bumped into a MASSIVE concentration of very active fish and the bite was downright stupid. I caught about a thousand of them by casting a classic Rapala crankbait.
Random Highway Bridge Held a Couple Good Fish! (1 New Species)

I make a point to go out fishing twice a week lately, obligations and weather permitting of course, but that's the goal. Once in the kayak with most of the day set aside for it - and once on foot closer to home for an hour or two. These smaller trips are more limited and come with lower expectations - but they are often pretty interesting little adventures all the same.

Catching Catfish & Exploring a Southern Lake
Looked like a good time! That one cat gave you a great fight on that light setup!
Thanks man! Yeah that fish ate his Wheaties that morning. Hopefully by eating him I have added his strength to my own 💪 😆
That video has me all excited. I have a great lake near me and a 2025 Tucktec pro folding kayak ordered and coming soon. Odell lake, Oregon.
Nice! You're gonna love it out there - good luck man!
Very nice job getting some mixed bag action! I love catching those hybrids on light tackle!
Thanks man! Yeah those hybrids are super fun. There are some pure strain striped bass stocked too.
What kayak do you have?
It's a Wilderness Systems ATAK 120
Love everything abt this video form the weather to the entire setup to the lake love love love keep up the good work.
Thank you! I appreciate that a ton, and will do!
Neon green yellow color
The rod with the green line on the reel is a 6'6" Fenwick HMG - light power, fast action. That reel is a Shimano Vanford 2000 and it's got 10 lb Suffix 832. It's not a cheap reel but I love it and think it's worth the price tag. The rig is a standard dropshot with a size 4 (I think) Aberdeen hook, and a 3/16 oz dropshot weight about 6 inches below the hook.
Can I get the full rigged setup you use to catch everything?
Absolutely loved the video, you deserve way more subs ur commentary is actually pleasing to listen to and enjoyable to watch. would love to see a video about the kayak setup. keep up the great work!
That really means a lot to me - thank you! And I do actually plan to make a video about all the kayak accessories and stuff somewhat soon.
Is that Lake Oconee? Also, great video.
Yup, you got it. And thanks!
What rod and reel is that and what sizes
That's a cheap Bass Pro brand rod, it's a 6'6 light. Reel is an Okuma ITX 2500.
what reel and size is that
Penn Fierce 6000
Never a bad day when fishin ' , lookin like ya had a great day congratulations to ya.....from Big " D " 😎

Hello I'm interested in doing what you do but wondering where are you parking your car and letting your kayak out fishing the canal can get boring and I've always wanted to do this
I launched the kayak from Monument Beach, I think I had to pay to park there for the day though. I don’t really fish around here much, once or twice a year, my wife’s family has a summer cottage in Wareham and we visit occasionally. I wish I could more. I’ve never had any luck in the canal, it’s so unlike anything I’m used to.
@rem_fishing thank you I'm there all the time fishing the canal and hang around monument beach but never seen anyone fishing from a kayak then seen your video and like how you get out there lol I want to start fishing from a kayak like you for salt and freshwater fishing . the canal and other spots can get crowded and boring at times while this just seems like a enjoyable peaceful experience
It's also frustrating and uncomfortable at times i'll warn you. But it's magic too. Totally worth it in my opinion.
That's good that there's not a lot of boat traffic
Definitely
Bro I like how you use big ass to describe fish. Most people sensor themselves. If I had a go pro I'd do the same. Thanks for keeping it 💯
Hahaha thanks man!
Giant redfish!
🚨🎣🐟👀Nice box of goodies, good fishing, and prayers and blessings in Jesus name ✝️☝️💯😎🔜🐟🌮or 🐠🍔👍🫵
Thank you so much!
Aji is horse mackerel, mebaru is a rock fish. Both are saltwater fish.
Ah okay, thanks! I think I’m gonna google image search them later I’m curious to see what they look like.
7:45 it may also be the Jack Mackerel fish
7:45 I’m pretty sure it’s the Yamame fish. Known as the Japanese salmon.
Okay cool. I think there are some salmon in the big lake, maybe it’s the same fish?
I have those rods. They are very good deal and I like using them. I also have the UL version for streams as well
Nice. Glad to hear that from some ones who’s put them to some use!
Hi sir, I am a beginner. Can I ask you a question? Can you tell me how to choose the jighead weight?
For drifting you'll have to consider the depth of the water, as well as the speed it's moving. Usually I want the jig to drift close to the bottom if possible. Or even contact the bottom a bit as it drifts (but maybe not if the bottom is real snaggy). Greater depth and/or current speed will require more weight of course. It's largely trial and error. Take a guess and give it a try, then move lighter or heavier as needed. If you don't every feel it hit bottom go heavier until you do. If that keeps getting hung up then back off just a touch. In general it's good to use the lightest weight that will work. And try not to get too frustrated when you lose some of them too!
@@rem_fishing Thanks for your answer, I don't have much experience. What are the disadvantages of not increasing the weight of the jighead in deep water, is there a loss of sensation in the rod?
@@yasinozkaran4417No worries, you're welcome! Disclaimer:I wouldn't consider myself a final source of expert source of information, haha. BUT... If you are fishing specifically by drifting the jig, in deeper water with current, and trout are holding lower in the water column or on bottom, and the jig is too light - the jig simply won't get down to them as it drifts. If you aren't drifting the jig in current, it's much different because of course you could just wait and allow a lighter jig to sink (within reason). In terms of sensation - spinning rods will almost always be labeled with a range of weight that they are designed to cast, and if you are using a jig within that range of weight (or close to) then you should be able to feel the jig if drifting on a tight line. If circumstances prevent you from being able to keep the line tight then an indicator/float is a good option.
cool
Thanks for checking it out!
very interesting 👍
Thanks!
Love your channel, man. Can I ask, what kind of kayak is that? Thanks!
Thank you! That means a lot to me. This kayak is a Wilderness Systems ATAK 120. Highly recommended.
I did that same thing with my net this year. Could have swore it was Tethered to my kayak but I guess not!
That sucks man, I'm still pissed about that net!
Wow that is an experience I want to have one day
Nice job securing that PB! It’s pretty nuts how many catfish you were getting, I’ve never seen them stacked up like that before!
Thanks man! Yeah there’s not much structure in this particular lake other than the boat docks, and these smaller ones seem to set up on them quite a bit. It’s fun to figure out which ones they like.
I just watched this video again ☺️ What a fantastic day you had. I can only wish for a day like this!! Best day jigging for lake trout is five lake trout in the net at Keuka Lake two years ago. They run smaller there but every 150 feet you run into another pod of 3 to 7 fish showing at the same time. They chase like crazy but don't bite too often. It's still a blast to mark hundreds of fish in 5 to 6 hours. Thanks for posting all your awesome videos! I hope to cross paths with you out on the water at either SP or TFSP this fall/early winter. 👍🏻
Checking out all your great Lake trout videos! Is that Pro Cure Alewife super gel? Are you using it? If so, how often do you apply it? Do you use any other scents? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for posting so many awesome videos!! 👍🏻
Thanks man! Yeah that’s the pc alewife. I bought some in the hopes it would trigger more bites, but you know there’s always so many variables I feel like it’s impossible to tell if it’s making a difference. If they are hitting well I kinda forget about it, if they seem a little hesitant, just following, I’ll be more diligent about applying it in the hopes it will tip the scales. I couldn’t say I have a whole lot of rhyme or reason to how often though, just if I can see it on there or it seems washed off. I imagine the fish can still smell it somewhat even if I can’t see it ,but I’ll just kinda bump it back up when it looks like it’s mostly washed off. Maybe every dozen drops?
Hi, I am new to trolling. Just wanted to know how you determine how much line goes out when you are trolling say in 15 ft of water? Also, what type of kayak and depth finder are you using?
Here I’m managing that the easy way, I’m just using a crank bait that has a fixed diving depth range of 8-12 ft (I believe). The amount of line out and the boat speed will affect the depth slightly, but not very much - It’s pretty predetermined by the design of the lure. They only make them to get down so far though, 20ish feet or so. If you wanted to troll something else like a spoon or a baited hook you’d have to do a little math and consider the amount of line out, the amount of weight you’re using, and your speed. And even then you’ll have to adjust for real world variables. Dipsy divers are a pretty simple way to get lures down to deeper depths for trolling as well. I can’t really give a complete answer, you’ll have to do some more research but hopefully that helps to start!
@@rem_fishing Thanks for that reply! Ill look to purchase a fixed depth crank bait! I still wanted to know what kayak you use and what depth finder? Just to get an idea of what's out there. Thanks.
You're welcome! Wilderness Systems ATAK 120 & Lowerance Hook Reveal 5ss.
Great! Love to see some chunking in CCC, more chill than bottom jigging a 4oz trouble😂
For sure!!
Great video!! I launch from TFSP but there are so many people there, it's like a block party LOL. I would love to launch about 5 miles North of there at SP. Do you know of any public areas near there? Was that a public spot you launched from? Good luck this fall. They should be turning on full bore pretty soon and hopefully the blooms are all done with these cool nights.
Thanks Joe! I'm not up there right now but I'd guess TFSP should be heating up big time soon. Sheldrake might still be good rn though. That is where I launched from here (video is from a couple years ago though). There is a public launch. It's just a rocky beach without a ramp so there's usually not a ton of people using it.
@@rem_fishing, thank you for the super quick response on an older video! I watched about 8 of your lake trout videos in a row LOL. You make it look so darn easy!!! I will mark over 100 fish and have 80 chase and hook into 3 and land 1 LOL. I still have a great time because it's fun watching them on the fish finder. THANK YOU very much for showing all your techniques, gear and lures it's very helpful. Also showing a bit of video before the strike because we get to see your presentation is really nice of you to do. It appears you prefer the West shore, am I correct? Thanks for everything, be safe, have fun and I have absolutely subscribed to your channel!! 👍🏻
Which lake is this please
Cayuga
What lake?
Cayuga
That water is such a pretty blue
It really is!
Nice job! That water looks beautiful. Which boat launch did you use on Skaneats?
Thanks! Yeah I think it's one of the most gorgeous lakes ever. I just went out of the DEC launch if I remember correctly.
Im also new to cayuga lake, just moved to ithaca not too long ago and havnt had any luck yet jigging this way in the summer. Any tips for a beginner? Much appreciate!
Hi William. Where exactly on the lake are you fishing?
@@rem_fishing i went to meyers park boat launch.
@@williamlin4226 They can be finicky in summer, early mornings are usually better, sometimes there are little bite windows for one reason or another. Meyers is so-so in my experience. Soon, as Fall starts getting closer I would try launching from the other side (Taughannock), usually more fish over there then. Do you have a fish finder? If so are you at least seeing them follow the jig up? They will generally do that for at least 20 feet or so even when they are not hitting. And of course they move around a lot and often times the issue is there just aren't many fish in the neighborhood. Summer time 70-80 ft is usually a good depth to look for them.
@@rem_fishing Thanks for the advice, i might start launching from taughannock. I flipped my kayak at meyers park the other day and lost some gear. Hopefully the west side might give me better luck. Yes i do havea fish finder and notice a bunch of fish on the surface but not alot in the lower column of the water. Ill try 80-90 ft next time as ive been trying at 120 ft recently
Might've been grazed by a prop?
Yeah that would be my guess too but I was wondering if anyone thought/knew differently. Seemed like he was doing pretty well considering!
Do you have a mono leader attached to that yellow braided line?
I use flouro, but yeah I always use a leader, 10-12 pound.
Onset
Was shocked at your intro I live in that town there and fish those streams all the time!
NIce! That area is beautiful. I've fished that stream probably a handful of times since, but this was definitely the best trip. I used to live kinda close by, in Caroline.
That cove had some of the biggest flounder
Yes it is onset bridge i fished that bridge i grow up no even 5 minutes from there
I didn’t see anything on your screen. No hump, or cover down there. What were you targeting?
There is a huge point nearby that has a creek flowing in. But I'm not targeting any specific structure, just certain depth ranges on the ledges. They are usually roaming this general area in the fall, many of them spawn near here and it's also the location where they stock them. Salmon and Browns use the creek to spawn and Lakers will follow them in sometimes if the water is high enough, I imagine they are eating the eggs.
@@rem_fishing you’ve earned a subscriber my friend
Where in NY do you fish for the hybrids? I know the hudson is known for them but a lot of your videos look like your catching them in lakes.
The hybrid videos are actually from down south, mostly Georgia.
Like you video. Will go St Simons Island this weekend😊
Thanks! Have fun!
REM_fishing I caught a fish there at jerkal island pier and I’m 13
It was a silver poucr
That was definitely a big sting ray. Sticking itself to the bottom
