You never know what might turn up . . .
Beat Me To It! But They Missed the CW Treasures - Bullets & Buttons Hid From Them, But Not From Me!
My friends hunted this Civil War spot the day before me. But I went DEEP and found bullets and buttons that they missed! Using that annoying DEEP program has distinct advantages. Target discrimination has its place . . . but on a Battlefield or a Camp, Go low and go slow. And DIG THOSE MOUSE WHISPERS! At the end of the video, we take a look at a Civil War firearm found in the 1960s that is incredibly in WORKING order! #metaldetecting #digginghistory #relicdigging #civilwar #metalde...

200 Year Old Military Button! SILVER! Finding Buttons and Bullets from The Battle of Gaines Mill!

It's well known that Civil War Soldiers often carried outdated equipment and wore outdated uniforms. Today I found a U.S. Infantry button manufactured in the 1820s-1830s. I also dug Civil War era buttons and dug a pocket-full of bullets. It's amazing that these relics of the past are still just inches below the soil! #metaldetecting #digginghistory #civilwar #relicdigging #deus #history #civilw...

We'll look back at the end on the buttons that have come out of here in previous years. This is a good one! #metaldetecti...

I honestly thought this permission was nearing the end of its productivity. But straight out of the truck I began finding what the soldiers left behind. For the first time in a long time . . . I had no DOWN time. It was just one discovery after the other. Today, I dug the second largest number of civil war bullets I've ever dug in one hunt. It wore me out, so enjoy! #civilwar #metaldetecting #d...

An exploratory hunt at a new permission on the Cold Harbor Battlefield turns out better than expected! Ah, the stories in-between the finds can be the most interesting. Once knew a place in Bermuda Hundred . Camp off the James River. Confederate calvary first, then U.S. army after they shelled the Confederate calvary off. Frags ,fuzes, bullets buttons. Plates all found early days. There was a large logging camp trash pile 1930s. We avoided it like the plage. Took a new guy there. He did not know about the trash pile. He starts digging in it. We were all in ears shout. He starts screaming and dancing in this trash pile. Shouting, I GOT IT I GOT IT !!! We spin around run up and there He stands with a C.S. Nashville plowworks sword in his hands 😮 My jaw and the other guys jaw hit the round. All those years. Een the old times Mac mason ,Tommy Johnson, and others through the years just walked on by. Keep um coming Walker. God bless
How did they lose so many bullets?
That was a good day for sure. You did some diggin. Don't be bashful kiss it.
Good on the hunt man! Be well out there!
The music that you used, Awesome choice! I've always loved that tune but could you tell me the name of it so I can download it?
A foot and a half down, WOW! I'M just using an "El cheapo Harbor Freight Gordon metal detector. I have watched this video 3 times already. Yes, I agree 100%, take care of the property you're hunting on and cover those holes! Respect it as your own! I gained 1 permission simply because I told the owner that I would fix the holes that the last person left.
Awesome video of course! Very informative for the newbies like me!
Lol! Ms Kitty is just up there doing her inspections to make sure you are cleaning things right. 😅
I've never lived close enough to Civil War battlefields/Camps to take up metal detecting, but I've been fascinated with it since I was a kid and I'm in my early 60s now. So I vicariously experience the relic hunting side of myself by watching your videos.😀 I enjoyed your story about finding the solid shot cannon ball. It seems as if you were meant to find it. I imagine when it comes to the more prominent relics in your collection you have a distinct memory of where you were and the circumstances when you found the item.
Great video brother. See you in the battlefield some day 😊
Outstanding finds ty for the adventure bw God bless you
great day! loved the cannon ball story. sometimes its just your time to get lucky. looks like mt kitty was helping out big time lol.
If your friends that were hunting the day before you were there watch this, they are gonna be upset that they did not hunt a little more carefully! I really enjoyed hearing the story of that 12# cannon ball!
I bet your buddies who missed those bullets are spittin nails! But, same thing has happened to me.
Great story about the canon ball. A friend of mine says he’d rather be lucky than good any day.
More great treasures and another great story! What would be the chance of a follow up video on the huge old collection that you and Muduck went through….if there is any.
Good digging walker. I went for a couple hrs today and it felt like it was summer time.
Good video, congrats and thanks for sharing 🙏
Thats on my bucket list a shiny stainless steel somethin or other. nice finds Walker. Some guys have all the luck. cannon ball Walker.
YOU PETTED YOUR CAT!! Made my day! And I haven’t even picked on you about it lately!! (My husband is still laughing about how excited I got when I saw the cat. 🙄) Nice finds! Loved the water pipe story - you’re the one who deserved to find that cannonball. Be good, say your prayers, and thanks for petting the cat. 🐈 All is forgiven. 😂😂 ❤
Talk about gratifying - finding relics next to old dig holes!! Great story about the cannon ball/water pipes.
More bullets and buttons another great day you have had, so it’s last day are you going back to the place you were on where you had a lucky streak last week
A Bullets & Buttons kinda day! Bet you'd take that all day long!!! Cool story about that cannonball🤞
Another fantastic outing l thank you.
Congratulations on finding the Civil War bullets. Do you live in VA? Just wondering as I live here in NC. I would love to find out if there are any areas here in NC where Civil War skrimshes took place and try to get permission to hunt those properties.
I live in Virginia Robb, and there are many CW historic sites in NC. You should look up any civil war relic hunting clubs and go to a meeting! Also, on facebook, check out "Carolina Metal Detecting." The admin is Jake Murdock and he might be able to direct you to a club.
And tell him "The Battlefield Walker" sent you!

You're too kind Shane, but I appreciate it!
Another great day for sure Walker! Congrats buddy!

You have the best and most informative channel…watching from South Dakota.
hey Cliff - that's really kind of you to say! My wife did her internship (dentistry) on the reservation at Pine Ridge. Ya'll stay warm up there!
That pistole your father was able to restore reminds me of the difference in condition the relics we found in the 60's and 70's versus what's found today. I remember visiting a farmer in Dinwidee county who had 2 canteens in great condition (by todays standard) complete with bullet holes that his boys had found laying on top of entrenchments on his property, no detector.
Just WOW. The only thing I am old enough to remember laying on top of the ground other than bullets after a plowing and rain, were cartridge box tins on Watt House Hill in Cold Harbor. I've known of guys kicking those tin inserts aside so they could detect! I don't know why so many were there except that it was MASSIVE fighting charging uphill into hot musketry and cannister. I could imagine guys under withering fire just tearing at their cartridge boxes for the next bullet and maybe the adrenalin just caused them to rip the whole tin out - I don't know. But yes absolutely. There has been a tremendous change in the condition of relics from 60s-70s to today.
Another great relic hunting video, Walker. Thanks for sharing. BTW - that's beautiful lit display with the rifle, pistol, etc.
Thanks for that Gary! I like the way it turned out, too!
A gpx will umcover more relics in that good soil
Yo Dave! If I owned one, I'd try it! I ABSOLUTELY KNOW there are undiscovered hut-sites here. (I've found 2) Maybe a GPX could sniff them out . . .
Is there a theory as to why there are so many dropped bullets found by relic hunters? It seems they would have been a precious commodity. My understanding is that the vast majority of rifle bullets (3 ringers, Enfields) came to the soldiers pre-wrapped in paper cartridges. When you find a rifle bullet do you believe that when originally dropped that it was in cartridge form and that the paper and gunpowder naturally gave way to nature? Or do you think most were already separated from the cartridge and tossed on the ground for whatever reason? I really enjoy your videos!
SWLC, Thank you for your encouragement. I assume that most dropped cartridges got damp, or maybe tore open, and were just discarded. At this particular location, I sometimes find multiple bullets in one hole with significant black-powder corrosion. Meaning they lay in the ground, stewing in their own powder for a very long time. They may have been left behind when they broke camp in a hurry, or dropped and got muddy, or became damp. That's about all I am willing to guess!
@@thebattlefieldwalker2841 I remember instances where you've uncovered a bullet with traces of black powder. Your guess that most were damaged cartridges makes sense to me. I imagine with all the rainstorms the soldiers passed through, despite their best efforts there were going to be times that some soldiers ended up with soaked cartridges making them worthless- and hence tossed on the ground. I was always surprised at seeing stores/auctions/eBay where there were boxes literally filled with 100s of dropped bullets. Since so many of them are found at Civil War campsites and battlefields, I thought there might be some explanation I wasn't aware of. Thanks for your response, and damaged cartridges seems the most logical reason.
Buttons & Bullets - a Wonderful Hunt! Thank You for sharing the adventure with us! God Bless
Hey Steve, thanks for that, and right back atcha!
Excellent finds Walker. I would have been satisfied with the bullets but the NY buttons were very nice!
Jerry, it was a great fall. I have ONE more vid from this fall, in this place.
an excellent day indeed! you just wonder what those new york boys were thinking about so far from home. that little brass boot pistol is so cool!
You already know we think alike . . .
Enjoyed 👍
Thanks Hee-Haw!
Awesome video as usual! I have the exact same eagle powder flask in my collection. I found it years ago in an old house we were demoing and the owner let me keep it. I used it for a while when I was into black powder shooting, but now it's in a display case.
Jack, that's really cool. In the mid 70s, I got into black powder shooting, and my dad allowed me to shoot his original Tower Enfield regularly. My sister has it now.
Wonderful hunt, Walker. Interestingly, how time has now eaten most of the gold wash on those New Yorks. I dug many in the days gone by that had amazing gold on them. I dug two large eagle A buttons behind an artillery position in Cold Harbor a creek with very clear water running through it with almost 100 % gold wash on them. Contact me we will talk about where. My days are over for digging. I dont mind sharing with friends. God Bless
Hogwarts, I think it's mostly fertilizer that is eating these buttons up. If I find them in the sandy topsoil, they seem to look better. Like the drainage of the sand helped. Ironically, if I dig them deep on the clay hardpan, they look worse. I've dug them so pretty they look new, and a foot away they are toasted. I don't know how to contact you, but if you want, my email is walker@rcofc.org
May Jesus, Mary and Joseph protect you and the Soldiers on both sides. Awhile back I told you about Irish die hard Catholic .Ancestor who supported the Union and Republican he didn't like Democracy. He supported the Republican party in 1854, 170 years later we still support the Republican Party to this very day. Because back when he was Ireland he wanted a Republic. That's why I'm here in the good old U.S.A!
Thank you Kolbe!
That powder flask & boot pistol are beauties! I sure wish I lived closer to you & your barn. I would love to attend your Bible study!
Swamp - we'd love to have you man! My Dad found the boot pistol way back in the day in a sandy Cold Harbor trench.
Love the shot of your Bible study group. Nice finds too.
Thanks John, they're a great bunch of guys. What I love is that it's multi-generational. The 30-somethings are learning stuff from the 70-somethings, and vice-versa!
@ just as God intended.
I really like all of your videos my friend . I found what i think is a Civil war camp here in Logan Co. WV. I think it is where the Logan Wild Cats camped It is on my Grandpas Property but I cant hunt there anymore. My grandpa and grandma are both dead and my Cousin Owens it now and she will not let me hunt on it . I ran across it while digging water lines and putting power in a house trailer I dug up 11 bullets all dropped unfired and a lot of old broke black glass beef and pig bones in what I think was a trash pit . There was a broke Ginger beer bottle also. It is in the town of Chapmanville that is in Logan co. WV .
Good GRIEF Duck, you're breaking my HEART!!! (And thanks for the kind words too, my friend.)
@@thebattlefieldwalker2841 Brother it breaks my heart to that i can't metal detect there Because i found the things i told you about just by digging so just imagine what i would find with a detector.
