    Here's a tip: Boil the noodles, drain the water, then add the seasoning, the second oil seasoning- before you open it mush up the sashay between your thumb and fingers so the oil and brown stuff mixes. After adding the sashays stir well. Miles better. Never put seasoning in water.

    Another key to this book is the main protagonist recasting famous senseless deaths in a way that he can understand (jfk assassination as a motor race etc) and also his wife dying over and over again in various those celebrity deaths. So to me Ballard was literally trying to make sense of his wife’s out of the blue passing by restaging other deaths.

    Rutherford's point about 'a common ancestor' doesn't mean what you think it means. I have 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great-grandparents etc etc. If we go back 25 generations, I have something like a million ancestors. I can't inherit DNA from all of them! Even my great-great-grandparents only passed 1/16th of their DNA on to me. You would also have about a million ancestors living at that time. There are only so many people in the world. I can't have a million ancestors all different from your ancestors, and different from everybody else's ancestors. There are bound to be many common ancestors. If we go back in time to when our first common ancestor appears, I might have , say, 10000 of my ancestors living at that time, and you would have about the same. One person would be in your list of ancestors and also appear in my list of ancestors. That would be our most recent common ancestor. But there would be absolutely nothing special about that person. He or she would just be one of my 10,000 ancestors living at that time, and also just one among the 10,000 of your ancestors living at that time. The chances are high you didn't inherit any DNA from that person and that I didn't inherit any DNA from that person. Not zero chance, but not high. I would inherit in total far more DNA from my other 9,999 ancestors than from that one single person, and in total you would inherit far more from your other 9,999 ancestors (which would all be different to mine as we only had 1 common ancestor at that time). We don't inherit the same DNA from our most common recent ancestor in some kind of weird privileged racial purity line of descent from that person. Genealogy is not genetics, no matter how much Rutherford obfuscates that fact.

    Adam Rutherford says in the book 'The genetic differences between us, small though they are, account for much, but not all, of the physical variation we can see or assess. The diaspora from Africa around 70,000 years ago and continual migration and mixing since, means that we can see that there is structure within the genomes that underlies our basic biology. Very broadly, that structure corresponds with land masses, but within those groups there is huge variation, and at the edges and within these groups, there is continuity of variation.' I am not a scientist and I find it hard to understand the science. I think some examples would help me. Can you name two of these land masses that correspond with the structures within the genomes? And can you name two of these 'groups'? Groups of what exactly? If I had names for two of these groups, I feel that would help me get a grasp on the science. Thanks in advance.

    • @maverickfegan
      @maverickfegan 3 месяца назад

      Hopefully somebody has an adequate answer to your question, I’m not sure that I do. But the groups are not as big as a continent, within Africa there are many clusters of genetic variability, with drift across boarders. Thinking about the uk as an example is very difficult, despite being an island there have been populations from the Romans, Saxons, Vikings that have mixed in. So you zoom out and look at Europe as a whole and then you get mixing at the edges, North Africa, Asia. I suppose the way to look at it is to think that certain areas have a predominance of a genotype which is very slightly different to that of a neighbouring area. Visual ques are easiest to recognise, such as the ginger haired people being most prevalent in parts with cloudier colder conditions, Ireland and Scotland have more ginger hair than England for example.

    • @stevencarr4002
      @stevencarr4002 3 месяца назад

      @@maverickfegan Of course there are huge variations within Africa. Nobody could mistake a Moroccan for a Bantu or an Igbo. And the amazing fact that 88 out of the top 100 marathon times are from people from Kenya and Ethiopia, while 79 of the last 80 finalists across the last ten Olympics have had at least one parent of primarily sub-Saharan ancestry, shows that Africans are hardly all identical to each other. 'I suppose the way to look at it is to think that certain areas have a predominance of a genotype which is very slightly different to that of a neighbouring area. ' Yes, the striking , immediately obvious ,difference between peoples on either side of the Himalayas is best explained by the Himalayas being such a huge barrier to travel.

    • @maverickfegan
      @maverickfegan 3 месяца назад

      @@stevencarr4002 Mathew Syed’s book Bounce was interesting, I think he was talking about genetic testing of athletes in Ethiopia and Kenya as well as other parts of Africa but they did not find anything significant genetically, but he thought it was the way of life, how school kids generally did a lot of walking/running on their way to school, this when combined with training facilities, and higher altitude being more important than genetics. The importance of building a community of winners who could mentor and inspire the future champs. He also mentioned West Africans and genes for fast twitch muscles, but again there are those who have the same gene but don’t have the same level of success. Genes can only take you so far I suppose.

    • @stevencarr4002
      @stevencarr4002 3 месяца назад

      @@maverickfegan Correct, genes can only take you so far. It would be idiotic to claim that every Ethiopian can run a marathon in 2 hours 10 minutes. Top American and European marathon runners do just as much training , as many miles per week, as Ethiopian and Kenyan runners. But you are correct that it is ultimately environmental factors that control everything. After all the only reason people in Northern Europe have white skin is because of the environment. The environment controls everything.

    Like those that came before you, you greatly underestimate the strength and capabilities of the German military going into WWII, failing to give them credit for strategies and tactics that would come to be adopted by the Allies in the coming years. Blitzkrieg, the "lightning" push westward is widely attributed to Carl von Clausewitz's Force concentration principle, not a "British manual"...and arguably made possible as a result of the humble "Jerry can" that fed the German military machine in it's westward advance. Outpacing it's supply line has been the downfall of many armies throughout history, the Jerry can effectively solved this issue for a mechanized force. That said, I appreciate the overview of Taylor's book and will definitely be acquiring a copy.

    "War is something we should not see, we should work together, including with Russia through negotiation and diplomacy..." I'm quite certain that particular "negotiation and diplomacy" was settled in 1990 when NATO representatives agreed not to expand eastward, effectively establishing a buffer zone between Russia and Western Allies. War being as lucrative as it is, for an elite handful of people...we just gotta' Poke The Bear!

    I wonder if it will add popes to new stories that you ask it to write even when you don’t ask it to include a pope or two? You’ve now asked it to write about popes twice, so be curious to see what the algorithm does 😂

    I think you win 🥇 as the brief was “3 popes at a bus stop” but they were only at the bus stop briefly in GPTs story. Plus no ending for GPT. Also I want to hear more about that assassination in the Maverick tale!

      I could do a Pope special on the assassination.

    "Wow, Maverick Fegan! Your video was fantastic! The way you presented the content was engaging and informative. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us. I can't wait to see what you have in store for us next. Keep up the great work!"... As you may be able to tell, i asked ChatGPT to come up with this message to you. I then quickly went down a rabbit hole where I got ChatGPT to write me a story about Robocop losing his helmet in a bit of a scuffle. I don't like Pope's so this made all of the stories difficult for me to digest and so I can only give them a 3 to 4 out of 5. I look forward to future videos of this sort. I notice a book on shark attacks on the shelf. What is your favourite shark attack?

      Ah I know you don't like popes, I know its a sore spot, Im sorry, I should have been more considerate. Ever since the pope-mobile ran over your favourite teacher at school, he only wanted to give the pope a hug, he wore that thermite vest for his own protection. My favourite shark attack was a thresher shark upon a Devonshire or Cornish fisherman, it broke their arm as a lesson to them for catching it in their net, also one of those counties doesnt know how to do cream teas properly, which may be irrelevant to me as cream is the work of the devil, but I have a conceptual moral stand point which would make sense if I did twitter. Thanks for watching the video, I thought I was going to have to watch it myself there. I didnt get chatGPT to do my reply as I dont trust it enough yet, it only does menial things like online banking and driving me to work.

      @@maverickfegan The Popemobile actually aimed at my teacher, ran him over and then reversed over him. The Pope was banging the bulletproof glass and howling with laughter. The popemobile went flying out through the gates of Holton Road junior school, went into the center of Barry Town and smashed in through the window of Woolworths. It's my dream to see a shark in the wild as it gently munches on the tender head of Noel Edmonds.

      Thanks, I condensed it, alas i have 6.7GB of space taken up by “stuff” so not much space to video on stupid iphone unless i reset it or something. A good bounce but bouncing is tiring

    What was your best bounce? Is it possible to no-clip into the backrooms? Do you reckon Jim would fix it for me to go to Ffestiniog? Is it OK to go alone or best to bring another human with you?

      Solo is fine but if you take somebody be sure they are not the sort to sabotage, its very easy to knock people down by the reverberations of your own mass, my best bounce was when I saw a long chap trying to get up after being bounced on by a chum, i bounced from the other end of the large trampoline and he flew back to the floor as the shockwave smashed his balance to smithereens
