Venus Vs Luna Vs Tubepod & Pogonomyrmex Update
Great to have some @Antymatters ant stories at Christmas time 😊 I had been missing it . Those black worms look a bit wrong, but at least they are not the worm eating type. I am looking forward to ant con as well 😁
Finally got my ass in gear. Yeah there disgusting little wretches, proper names Kontikia (Laubenfelsia) ventrolineata and I guess there starting to inhabit the UK in places. Imagine having a picnic and one of these crawls out the grass, no thank you. May look for a spider that may hunt them. You spot that yellow spider to, turns out it easts woodlice so winning with that inhabitant. 128 days till antcon
@Antymatters You hit the spot with that yellow spider . It might be a tiny baby and grow out into something cool 😎
Very nice looking setup! How do you keep the ants inside?
Well ATM I have a super weathered but somehow still working quick dry ptfe later around the top lip, I can't really reapply it now as theres a good 12 spiders that have completely woven there webs creating a secondary barrier. The web doesn't really end up catching ants either but scares them away.
didn't you have acorn ants in this setup to or am i thinking of your manica's tank?
There in both kinda. There's a few colonies in the big tank, maybe 4 but not seen them since autumn, probly sleeping. Manica tanks is crazy now and I don't think the acorns would survive :/
Hey antymatters im just starting up a store and im releasing some new nests, could i send you some and you do a vid on them or something? Let me know your thoughts :)
@@invis7849 got a website yet ? Would love to have a look
@@Antymatters yes we've got one - we're called Brilli-Ants - pretty sure we only appear if you search through google though - ill try send a link but youtube might not let me
@@Antymatters yes we have a website - Brilli-Ants
@@Antymatters yes i do but im gonna have to figure out a way to send the name because youtube seems to not like it lol
the word brilliants but put a hyphen before 'ants'
I have a question, what happens if you keep a small species and it grows massive in a year and you don't have the space for it or for whatever reason it's just too much what do you do with them? I know if it's a native species to your area you can release them but what if it's not?
whens part 2?
First vid of yours I've seen, subscribed cos of your commentary.
found my queen dead today :(
@@nodwaa9227 sorry to hear that :( going to try again ? There a fab colony to get going, when they get going
@ I've had them about 4 months. Quite a sad moment really. I will try again but not whilst all the works are still alive. I have thought about trying to introduce a new queen but I'm not sure. I probably only have 40 works or so. And tips and advice on what to do next would be great :) please
can they see through red light?
I think so, they don't mind light to much though
@@Antymatters ok thanks so much, also any tips on keeping them because I will be starting tomorrow with them😀 especially with feeding.
You have to make sure there’s a stable temperature because i know someone who’s colony almost died out because of swinging temps
Thanks for the video! it was really helpful :) one question: you recommend feeding sugar once per week (if any). do you take it out after a certain period of time or do your ants eat it up? and if that, how long does it take them? thank you 🐜
nice video. the best part about the second version of the game is to se the body's pile, so you could get some small mountains of dead ants after the battles. next time you need to have TB vs Myrmica Rubra
I loved the information but it needs broken down into smaller pieces. People can pay attention for 10 to 15 minutes at a time.
7:30 *amen!* ... i did this for my messor. Just 1 6x6x6 cube with nothing but a very thin layer of sand: it took ONE HOUR and ants used it as trashsite!! Put there useless corn, eaten bug, etc. As soon ants reach 50-100+ its very recommended and nearly costs nothing, otherwise they pick one or several corners and trash those. Use pillar bugs etc to keep the rest clean :o
Appreciate this vid. I am having 1 colony wwith 13w but the queen does not produce eggs. I provide them red runner roaches and sugar water also. Is there a problem with my colony sir?
can i have your discord or somthing so i can text you
noooo please can you please just selll it once ive been waitiing for 1 year
keep uploading 🔥
when are you going yo get teratorium biconcave back in stock
dont think i will be.
@@Antymatters can i just buy a colony bro i e nbeen waiting for so long
Hello, did the queens you separated end up laying worker brood? Thank you.
what was the shop you got them
Really good video, it is good to see someone actually monitor the progress of the colony instead of just short term “unboxing - move cycle” very entertaining and I live surrounded by Messor barbarus in Spain so really good job
Messor barbarus are so tricky sometimes, dying for basically no reason. I started with eight, and after four months, only one queen has developed a small, ten worker colony. Two others remain without brood, the rest died unexpectedly.
I have a couple questions, firstly how do you hibernate them, I’ve heard you just leave them as they hibernate at room temperature? Secondly my Messor colony, almost one year old +40 workers Messor Barbarus colony’s queen stopped laying eggs, is this because of daily checkups, time of year, or temperature, it is around ~22-23c in my room, which I have turned the radiator off in to prepare my ants for hibernation before I put them in my mini fridge.
Nice vid! Really enjoyed it! The canons are cool!
So video was great and you deserve 2 likes but I can only give 1
you had me hanging on a reply, appreciate it. glad you liked it. thanks for choosing Antymatters :D
@@Antymatters thanks for being here. I have a couple seed collecting species (1 or 2 workers each) but just trying to see what I can do to get them up in numbers
Omg, that growth is insane! Amazing vid ❤
Thank you!! yeah mate, they've literally gone nuts. now its growing everyday visibly. should have some fun with them next season
Finally.. let me watch the video and make sure you still got the same quality lol
I got these recently, can I ask why you gave away your old big colonies of these? did they get too big? just want to know what to expect
Well 1st colony was just because I had 2 so gave one to my mate ramblings to enjoy.second colony were doing great but I saw Midland ants ha some trouble with her ants so decided she could take the second colony, they'd also have the chance of being used for ant education which seemed a great cause. If it wasn't for the education I would of kept them but it seemed worth it to spread the ant love.
awesome vid! they have grown an insane amount, it really dosent feel like 9 months has gone already😂
yeah totally, feels like william only arrived a few months ago. the lil mans obviously responsible for the growth id say. its the only explanation
I have a question please respond
Wassup
Great update! I think i remember one of your older messors in a set up thst was premade clay like tunnels in a container in the lower half and outworld was the space above. Love your videos ❤️🐜🐜🐜
Thanks Sadie, that nest was one of the best nests i ve ever made for sure, shoulda used gravel in the bottom not sand but lesson learnt, it worked a treat. may have to make another if they keep growing at this rate. sooo fun though
Very nice video good to see these again like they said before a 'proper" ant video 👌 i have also have 2 different messor queens both still alive ...lucky me.....nice to see a couple of your new inventions .. i like your thinking outside the regular ant box ant and come up with some original stuff 👍
Thanks man👍 fingers crossed will get a few new videos out soon and maybe some new nests :D just needs some finalising
emotional rollercoaster! brilliant video thanks, and your new nest idea is ace!
thanks, glad you liked the video. yeah im quite hopeful with this protoype. its 1 print away from being finalised now :)
In the beginning you can see a queen laying a egg’
Wich nest do you think is best for messor barbarus?
tbh shop wise i don't really think theres any good nests when compared to diy nests for these. by far the best setup in my experience is a plaster nest in a spaghetti container. put a few bits of fine gravel at the bottom to act as a hydration layer, then pour a quite stiff /thick mix of plaster to fill 3/4 of the container and allow to dry. once its hard slip the plaster out the container and carve what you like. some larger chambers near the surface for seeds and cozy chambers near the bottom for brood is reccomended. clay can also be used to restrict acsess temporarily till its required. theyl dig through it to open new areas. once its all carcved back into the spagetti container its goes. maybe drill a expansion hole up top and a small hydration hole nr the bottom to. makes everything easier longrun. lemme find an exmaple
ruclips.net/video/s5h66nWopeo/видео.htmlsi=GHyQNGX5H27InBu1 this style shown in the 1st 30 secs
@@Antymatters thanks for the information. But do you think title grout or ytong also is good?
@@TheSwedishAntChannel ytong is deffinetly okay, not sure about tile grout, if its porous it would work though i suspect. aslong as its not got any nasty chemicals in it.
So refreshing to see a proper ant video! Oh how I have missed these.
cheers man, was a proper fight to get it up as everything around me but the ants is currently failing. phone died. computer took 5 days to render it, having a huffy. finally got something up though
rely nice video, my messor b havent grown that fast yet probably around 50 - 60 workers. hopefully gona grow a bit faster after hibernation
Best of luck! come spring im sure theyl explode. the second years is when the serious growing happens :D
Love the video
thanks :D
Great video! I hope to keep messor barbarus one day.
i definitely recommend them. sometimes they go on sale for like £2 and for the ammount of fun they are its 1000% worth it. cant really loose
@@Antymatters Yeah they sound great and really cheap
I can’t believe you know this stuff that’s so cool I’m glad other people are interested in such little creatures too. ! Thanks for the video !
Thanks for watching! hopefully make some more soon. been filling in my knowledge on ant hormones recently and found some interesting stuff
Cool as shit
what do you use to keep the ants in? I have a 4 foot tank that I will do something similar with, but I want to know what is best as a barrier
Mine are in a giant fish tank, love it I use quick dry ptfe, the white stuff.
mine died ):
Awhh all of them ? That's sad. If any remain theyl happily bounce back. Gl

wow its worked great!
The amount of queens in that colony is crazy. I realise now that I had a colony like this once with 12 queens and only now I realise they were t.bicarinatum. Makes sense why there were 12 queens and so many workers
Do you still have them?
yes, downsized abit but there still chugging on
no missed it:(
