New to off-roading in a Side by Side? Looking for off road adventure? Own a Segway Villain or thinking about buying one? I share my buying experience, reviews of accessories, where to ride, tips about the Villain, how to videos, & lots more... Learn with me as I begin my adventures in a Villain!
Our new friend, Gary, 50" Can-Am Trail, wanted an exciting ride without the wives. Maybe Widow Maker
Gary & I left our wives at home today for an adrenalin adventure at Sycamore Creek. He drove his 1000cc Can-Am Trail the 14 miles from his RV site to the Bush OHV parking area. I trailered the Villain the 30 miles there. By the time we were ready to head out another trailer showed up with a nice-looking Polaris Razor. The 2 guys in the truck cab were Canadians. We joined forces for the day with Dean & Ken. What kind of misadventures can the 4 of us possibly find? Did you know Canadians drink a lot of beer? Maybe it was just Dean & Ken! :-) They stayed sober…

A Canadian couple (50" Can-Am Trail) asked us to show them Bulldog Canyon. How long before it flips?
Просмотров 35119 часов назад
Last week Larry showed me Bulldog Canyon, then we went back with our wives. Today Robin is with us doing the camera work, of course! We also have a Canadian couple with a 1000cc Can-Am Trail. It's only 50" wide. Where our 72" wide Villains glide over rough terrain their machine is quite active or from Robin's point of view, it's very tipsy & scary! Just how much excitement will we have today? B...

We joined the Rim Country SideXSides Facebook group when we went for a GoAZ shop sponsored ride in late June, 2024. For this ride we met 8 other drivers & passengers in Payson at the Green Valley Lake South parking lot. We believe this will be a sight-seeing ride. We've been misled before! We took Doll Baby to Cracker Jack Mine Road to highway 87/260 South then Houston Mesa Road to Payette Draw...
Want to easily install the OEM lower door panels from "SideBySideFury.com on a 2023 Segway Villain?
Просмотров 29528 дней назад
The 2023 Segway Villain SX10 WX looks great with the OEM lower door panels. Unfortunately, the excellent video from "Side by Side Fury" is focused on a 2024 Villain & there are a few differences in the 2023. Larry figured it out and wants to share with others. We hope this will fill in the blanks. You will need the "Side by Side Fury" install video (link below) as the main install aide. Use thi...
Our Villains need accessories? One is configured with a small budget, the other - what's a budget?

Our 2023 Segway Villain SX10 WX came with a lot of standard items that are accessories on most other brands. For example: 4,500-pound winch, trailer hitch receiver, rock sliders, 9" x 4" Digital Dash Information Center - GPS tablet with security location, 4-Point Safety harness not a lap belt, and 30" tires with bead lock aluminum wheels. Of course, there are many items that I know I must have ...
We had a sidewall puncture on the trail. No spare! What to do? Can we get the Villain home safely?
Просмотров 548Месяц назад
Our 2023 Segway Villain SX10 WX had a sidewall puncture during a ride in Nevada. I don't have a spare tire/wheel. They're heavy & expensive. I did a temporary trail side repair & bought a new tire after we returned home. I asked the shop about balancing the wheel. Apparently, this is not a thing for a side by side. I was told the weights would just get knocked off, but a lot of people use "bala...

We joined the Rim Country SideXSides Facebook group on our last Payson ride. There's a fire just north of the planned ride today & a rain storm blew thru here last night. The high today will be in the low 70s. It's a beautiful day in the mountains. We're told the ride is around 30 miles & will take about 6 hours. We are going to visit a pet cemetery, a Cold War bunker, look for fossils, cross t...

A Synthetic Winch Line is much safer & lighter than a steel cable. We are going to install a 1/4 inch synthetic line in a 2023 Segway Villain SX10 WX. It comes standard with a 4,500 pound winch with steel cable. We've never done this before so who knows what will go wrong? I followed the Stafford's in our Segway Villain SX10 WX into the Nevada desert to watch all sorts of off-road racers past by with just 13 miles left to the finish line. The motorcyclists looked extremely tired at this point. The race trucks were moving fast. We had lots of company even though we were 25 miles in the middle of nowhere. Our 1st Segway Villain adventure - will Larry try to kill us???
This Villain might be your best purchase yet! What a blast!
Make a video in the flagstaff cinders. Hope our Payson group can go camping there someday. If you look it up on u-tube there are many videos showing you what it is. Look up flagstaff cinders 100 dollar hill. There is a trail up the backside of $100 hill. We usually camp at the dry lake by the entrance. Lots of shade and trees!
The stock tires are perfect for that sandy, rutted dirt. I've thought about it and I think I'd rather have a big quad rather than a narrow trail SxS. Those trail models are just too tipsy. In fact, on my last trip a few days ago I came upon a rolled trail model of some kind where a teenage girl had hit an unexpected wash-out (following better machines) and didn't really have the skills to deal with it. Everyone seemed mostly OK and they didn't need my help but I mean, on a quad you could have just stood up a bit and soaked up the bump.
Skill is the answer.
Very nice 👍❤️👍
Thanks for watching
You can keep those communist made products! Nothing against the good people of China , buying these products we are funding a communist regime!
I’m surprised he has flipped that machine yet.
I believe he did roll it once in Canada
Nice video !!! Are you bringing the Canadians with ya to the ride on the 30th??
Sadly, no. They are traveling in their rv. They're in Tucson today. Won't be in our area again until February.
hey how can i get a villain windshield tu finlan? Thanks
No idea. Contact SuperATV. Maybe they can ship internationally. Good luck!
Where are the bloopers and out-takes, ha???
I'm still an amateur. 😉
The slo mo was a new nice touch. My compliments to your editing staff.
Test guy needs a raise
Larry's garage is the best!
It's hard to get an appointment, but worth the wait! 😉
Those were so,e steep climbs.
Wait until you see the next video. It's just the guys looking for adventure. 😀
Fun ride. Jean really liked riding in Larry's Villain as I knew she would. Gary was so very entertaining in the 50" Can-Am.
Garry pushes the limits on his machine. We don't even come close to the Villain's limits.
Come up for the ride on the 30th, there are some spectacular views as we head south and to the the Tonto Creek !!!! PS great video !!!
We're thinking about that one. We've ridden with Rim Country SideXSdies twice already and the rides are beautiful.
Those little ones can do more than you'd expect. But its true he was pushing his luck and you hadn't even begun to push the Segway toward its limits... I kinda think a 50 would be comparable to a 500 cc quad, but with a roll bar.
It's a very capable machine and Garry is a skilled driver. Wait till you see what he does in the next video. 😉
thanks for sharing. I would love to join this group but can't find Rim Country SidexSideson face book page. Can you provide the link? Thank you.

Lots of fun, beautiful day. That was a very bumpy ride for much of the trail. Head bumping, arm bruising kinda ride. My camera arm is outside the Villian and it hits the side of the roof a lot when it's bumpy. If I don't pad my camera arm enough, it's usually bruised by the end of the ride. A bit of bruising today.
Robin is very tough
Camera work was top notch as usual!
Thanks for sharing. Maybe one of these days I can join you. I work in AJ and live in San Tan. New to the sport and area and am not really keen on going out without a second driver, just in case. Thank again.
I will not go out without someone else and I do not want to be out in the desert in the dark.
We're always looking for another machine/driver to go with us.
@@DesertVillain That's great news. Once I get y trailer, I will reach out to you so we can meet up for a ride.
looking forward to it@dono4598
Oh man. Utah has fee-based parks like Zions or Arches, but nobody is demanding 80 bucks to drive around in the middle of nowhere.
This borders lots of houses. People are leaving their trash and not respecting the area. Hopefully the feeling will help with cleanup and maintenance.
I used to do off road tours in this area, but it has been a few years. first thing I noticed was how much cleaner the area was, no more squatters leaving garbage and stuff. So realistically I dont mind the fee seeing the difference they have made.
Very nice views👍
And it's so close to home
That was fun 👍
It's a good group to ride with and great scenery.
Great ride; great views; great group!
Robin is the great videographer. :-)
Yeah, that looked like one of the better rides yet. What a fun group. The scenery early in the video kind of reminded me of the eastern Sierra's, just beautiful!
@jimlass1721 our 2nd ride with this group. The scenery is always inspiring.
I'm in Payson and have been wondering if there's a club or group that goes on regular rides, or even rallies. Would love to join you guys in my Ranger XD 1500!!! I've been on this ride once, and really loved it. My favorite part was just before the water crossing. The boulder, literally as big as a house, that fell off the mountainside and landed next to the trail (and the trail has to go around it) was super impressive. I was awed by it and the other large boulders that had broken free and tumbled down the mountain. The nature on this ride is way cool.
It is a beautiful area. They are a great group to ride with & always looking for others.
I ride alone. No dust. But of course one of these days I'm going to break something and hike out of the desert, so I keep a lot more emergency stuff in the little back trunk than most people. Gotta think about food, water, warmth, and the ability to carry it all. I notice most of the people in your group are retired. I'm getting up there myself and I notice a lot of ATV drivers are too. At first I thought it was a sport for those darn whipper snapper punk kids, but apparently not! I guess the machines are now too expensive and nice. When I was a kid, quads certainly didnt cost 10 grand! So regarding cameras, I saw a 360 spherical cam sticking up from your car in one shot but all your footage was from a hand-held. You mentioned you got a new camera, and I was hoping the 360 was it. They're great for this kind of filming. Or an action camera with super stabilizing abilities like the Insta360 etc. Less shaky-cam, if any. You can see how my videos turn out on my channel www.youtube.com/@herbf2700 using an Insta360 Go3 (in-car hand-held or dash-cam positions) and the Insta360 X4 (on a long stick or mount on the roll bar allowing 'look around' scenes) and once in a while a drone shot. Of course, I'm a bit of a camera nerd and they can get $$$ over time hehe.
How is that 12 inch light attached near front bumper?
Larry was the key to this install. He has a tool called a nutsert. It's similar to a rivet tool. Instead of inserting a normal rivet it's a threaded rivet.
@@DesertVillain ok great! I found on Amazon. Are the nutserts in the bumper tube or some wee else? Did he find which 12inch light bar on Amazon?
The light is listed in the "Details" for the video. Here is the Amazon link to make it easier for you to find: www.amazon.com/dp/B00WE46ZWC?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 Drill the holes for the nutserts into the top of the bumper at the angle that gives you the best light for how you like to drive.
Another awesome video. See ya on the next ride!!!!
We're looking forward to it
I've been trying for an hour to get 1/4 inch rope through this hole and it's not close.
It was a pain. The next time I do this, i want to try heat shrink tubing with lots of lube.
Do you have a link for the long light bar on the roof?
I've asked Larry. He plans on checking his Amazon account.
Does it take 1/4 inch rope? Are you keeping the roller fairlead or changing to hawse?
Only changed to 1/4" rope so far.
I've been wondering if I want to do this. Only for winter. I'd want to take them off again in the summer-- Do you have to take it all apart to do that, or is it a matter of 6 bolts and you're done once the brackets are on?
It's a complete reversal of the install. The brackets will be a hazard if you don't remove them. I don't know the cost of a second set of doors but that would only involve 2 bolts for each door.
Cool 👍
Makes the Villain look even better!
Any chance you may start including links to the items you are installing like this winch rope?
Unfortunately, this rope was gift to Larry from his son. I think it was purchased on Amazon. If you check out my video, "Our Villains need accessories. One is configured with a small budget, the other - what's a budget?", you will find a list/links of the items I have added. I don't have a list for Larry, but I can find out from Larry if there is an item someone is interested in. Thanks for watching & commenting!
My text add on is a spare tire
No spare tire in my immediate future. I keep thinking about it. So far, a good repair kit & pump are my solution.
I really enjoyed watching your video. Looks like Russ took you all to some great points of interest!
Russ was a great tour guide, err, leader. Thanks Russ! :-)
Your so right about the heat in the cab, my rzr is unbearable with a windshield on. I took it off and have a half windshield and removed the rear side panels on the doors on both side to let some air flow through, was a big improvement. Stock suspension on all side-by-sides i just adequate, the manufactures dont know who is going to purchase and drive their machines. A 130lb driver and 90lb passenger or a 300lb driver and 200lb passenger so the springs and shock valving is a compromise and the ride is not as plush as it could be. Best thing I did to make the long rides on these rocky trails here in Arizona more enjoyable and less tiring was to drive over to Shock Therapy and have them re-valve my shocks and to put their custom springs on my rzr. I am in your age group and I wanted them to make the ride more plush at lower speeds on these rough trails. So I told them what I wanted. What a difference! and to further make the ride more plush I removed the front sway bar links and installed Walker Evans sway bar shock links, that helped a lot with the transfer of hits from side to side. And to finish the suspension I put a Super ATV sway bar shock link on one side of the trailing arm to soak up the hits. A huge difference in ride quality. I really didn't want to pay that much to have it done but once out on the trails I am happy I bit the bullet and had it done.
Wow! Sounds like some great improvements. I live in Apache Junction, AZ. Always looking for people to ride with. Looks like the temps we be bearable next week for local rides again. :-)
Can't live without the "Oh SH!T" handle! But Ed always reminds me that if by chance we roll don't grab that; hold your harness. All hands inside.
No rolling with Robin on board. But, if something goes wrong, she knows what to do!
I got my skid plates 30% off when MSC had a black friday sale.
I'll keep an eye out for that. Thanks!
Meh, it’s only a budget lol.
I'm still working on the budget concept! ;-)
Great video Edward! Very smart tip at the end of the video. Can't be reminded of this enough!!
I was in a local hospital visiting a friend who had a heart attack. When I told one of the nurses that we have a UTV she mentioned there was a patient down the hall from a UTV roll over. She was missing some fingers. Ouch!
That was interesting. I had not heard of these before. Great how-to video. Would have been better with drone overhead footage in the carport, just sayin
No drones in the carport. 😉 we are going to test a new camera - Insta360.
It sure does come in handy bringing tire repair kits. Those balancing beads do a great job of always keeping a tire balanced throughout its wear cycle. Just remember to tell the tire shop when you replace the tire, as they are not fond of chasing those beads when they remove the tire from the rim lol.
I was hoping they would transfer the beads to my next tire. 😉
What do you use for a jack on the trail?
No jack is required for any of my trailside tire repairs. 😀
does resist still do rides? I live up here
With so many places to ride & great temperatures it makes me jealous. Enjoy!
Nice video. Looking forward seeing you guys on future runs
We'll definitely be back. Thanks for a great ride.
Another amazing ride. This seems like the trickiest terrain that you've been on yet. Robin's camera chops are next level!
I may lose her to a Hollywood studio. :-)
I actually found 3 rocks. Ed only knew about 2 but I hid one in the box early in the ride. Great ride. Really need to get a skid plate on that Villain.
I knew you had more rocks! :-)
Thanks for the great video and we hope you and Larry come back and ride with us again, It's Dave from RCSxS, this is my RUclips channel !!
I don't see a link.
You're lucky, with a group so large, that there's no dust at all. I was out a few days ago and left a dust cloud that just sat there on top of the road behind me. The dust cloud is probably still there.
LOL
That was a first on the lack of dust. What a great day!
That bunker is pretty cool. Too bad people have to plaster everything with graffiti. Yep, sometimes you just have to lean into those ruts lol. Cool pet cemetery.
Sometimes I just need a little extra excitement! :-)
HI Larry .ha ha thanks for showing some tips on things. I am looking to go camping and will be adding things as well to my Villain. So far i have only gone on 2 rides or one was a ride called Farm Fest at Tall Pines, the other was a Dice run at Knaap Creek fire dept. I was watching others talk about the Heat inside the Villain and i found a Fan that is used on Boats from Amazon and will be looking to pipe it in to send Air to areas that are getting Hot. I like to buy things that most Dealers have made but like the FAN over head is $499. So i am thinking of using a Boat Fan to start and see if it will work to keep me cool. Plus the Helmet that has Dust hose and Air Filtering system is priced high i will make up a system that should work as well. I will let ya know later once i get it all together. if yo care to see.
I recently changed my windshield to a SuperATV Flip and now I just flip it up when it's hot so it's like driving without a windshield. The big advantage is we get thunderstorms here in the Phoenix area & a windshield makes a huge difference. This is the best of all worlds but not an a/c. I made a video of the install. It's here on the channel.
