How to a create pest resistant, frost protective container for vegetable gardens. This container method is best used for outdoor seed sowing and transplanting small, young, tender plants. With this container you can grow close to 2 square feet of vegetables. That's equivalent to 16 radishes and 16 short-n-sweet carrots in one container. That's a lot of food! Fertilizer Friday In The Vegetable Garden | 02-02-2024
Просмотров 48611 месяцев назад
Every first and third Friday of the month I fertilize the vegetables that are growing in the garden. This winter is so funny because the majority of the vegetables growing have volunteered. The only ones I actually planted myself are the carrots, thyme, garlic and one small collard plant. It's ok though I'm going to fertilize them all. Honestly though, I'm surprised it all survived the hard fre...

These are the steps I took to plan my vegetable garden for the 2024 growing season. The first time I decided to grow some of my own food, I just threw a few seeds into a tote and started growing. I decided to have a Gardenia garden this year (as a new gardener). I knew it’s rather demanding to begin with but, I’ve spent all summer doing everything EXACTLY right, and have spent a fortune!!! Still, yellow leaves. It wasn’t until I started realizing that every new plant I brought home seem to get yellow leaves as well.. I just discovered the culprit today. And I was always told that well water is fabulous for plants 😂 I guess just not my acid loving ones.

Got a tip - Maybe place container top on container then use the hot iron to remove center of container top. Would be possibly more stable and would not have to worry about melting or causing damage where you are working removing center of top. Great idea for gardening. Thank you so much for sharing idea. Appreciate from Ky.

I've heard of using totes as a cold frame (zone 6a here 🇨🇦) and I might do that next year to harden off my veggies. When I go to Lowes (now Rona here) or Home Depot I look for the torn or open bags of soil etc because they've marked them down to 99 cents and the store has put them in to large clear plastic bags which I use in the garden in the fall to protect my plants from frost.

I thought of a similar idea. I am digging the boxes into a compost pile that I made in a tractor tyre and am using it to start tree and vine seeds in Autumn (Australia, so Southern Hemisphere), for transplanting in early Spring. They are being started in damp sand, in forestry tubes, with about an inch of water in the bottom of the tote to maintain humidity. I don't modify the actual tote at all, so if I want to use it for something else in the future, I can do that. 80 tubes will fit comfortably in a 55-litre tote and 2 totes will fit in an old rear-tractor tyre, with lots of room for compost. As a bonus, in the Spring I also get some nice, well-aged compost to get them all started! Also, I use the completely clear totes and leave the lid intact. I take the lid off once a day, check the tubes, then put it back on, and I do this at about Noon, when it's nice and warm. I hope this idea helps someone out there. God Bless!

Just a question would a hot glue gun instead of staples work better? And is there a reason not to use hot glue? I’m starting my seeds inside, I have a huge south facing bay window and plants love it! I do well starting but fail at moving them outside. The deer ate all of my tomato’s last year and the chipmunks and squirrels made short work of my Swiss chard. Thank you for this idea! I joined your family to get all of the knowledge you have to share I’m in New Jersey!

Yolanda thanks very much for sharing this awesome video. I noticed that you use veggies, egg shells, coffee grounds and sauerkraut. Is there any reason that you did not mention adding fruit scraps? Also, should I wait until I have a lot of scraps, or should I continue to add and layer my jug daily? Again, thanks for sharing your ideas with us. You are so appreciated. God bless you. 😊
