How to perform a combat knife throw?
Просмотров 7772 месяца назад
As I see it there are two styles of instinctive throwing. First style: - is based on a push-motion - puts the throwing arm in the main role - performs well in competition because it’s simpler and less explosive - is more isolating and thus more prone to cause shoulder injuries Second style: - is based on a pull-motion - sets the body in the main role - is more of a combat throw than an accuracy...

Mythic throwing knife from Tedojo. Eventhough it’s a short and light knife no spins are easy even from further away since the knife has great ’triggers’. It has 4 of them in total. A unique design indeed! tedojo.com/products/mythic-collective-throwing-knife-3-pieces

KAIZEN What is it? This throwing knife is a collaboration project I made with Delta2alpha. A throwing knife design can’t get simpler and more minimalistic than this. Kaizen is a kiridashi type of knife. Kiridashi is japanese word meaning ’to cut off’. Kiridashis are japanese multipurpose utility knives. Story behind the name Kaizen is also a Japanese word meaning constant improvment. When I sta...

A master and great instructor. Thank you, Joel.
i hope his american improves even more
I have a question, when throwing, should I let the knife slide through my hand or push it? What exactly is the method?
Let it slide out from your hand. That is simpler. One moving part less and faster throws are possible with it. Before I used to push but later I found it unnecessary.
Hi Joel, me again, sorry for the inconvenience. I'm having a little difficulty getting past the 3 meter distance in "no spin", because instead of that it did a half spin, I'm making the knife slide, how do I fix this? How do I decrease the rotation while maintaining the force, I think the detail of the hand and what to do with it is the most difficult for everyone and the right way to slide.@@joelholopainen6865

What knives is he using in this video ????
I love your throwing style and I have to copy it (but it's not easy)
Copying anyone’s throwing style is a mistake. Why? Because every human body is unique, very different from one another. Your only option is to find your own way.
@@joelholopainen6865 Thank you very much for your suggestion. Can I send you my video of throwing nospin? I would like you to give me information on what I can improve.
@@SławomirRawskiyes, via messenger
What a great instructor. Do i keep my index stiff with a slight bend, or do i run it along the spine?
Along the spine relaxed.
amazing throwing as always. good information bits as well
Good
I don't know why but with no spin, always at 4 meters and beyond, my torso has to jerk forward to keep the knife from overturning. At 6 meters it's a struggle to keep from overturning even when my torso jerks forward. Mabey I am not following through enough or I am not using my index finger properly but it feels like I have to change something at 5 meters and beyond or I overturn. The angle of release has to change I am assuming.
Olga Fedina once said to me that the earlier the release the better. It happens naturally if the arm and wrist are relaxed and you throw with your body.
Did you join a class at here location? Or how did it come?
@@VK-qh6pr I spoke with Olga via VK. We have met earlier in Moscow, in no spin tournaments.
looks like Fedin-techniqe Super slow motion would be interesting
I'll be 51 in September and a few days ago I started practicing no spin knife throwing. I have been working on my technique from 10' and yesterday I started incorporating step back drills to 20'. When work allows it, I try to get at least a minimum of 20-30 minutes a day, not perfect but a little bit better than the time before. Thanks for the video
I STARTED THROWING AT THE END OF APRIL. DOES THE KNIFE I THROW MATTER?
It does a little.
Idk? But after a week of watching many others throw, well this video stands out as inspiration , a true Pro Thanks Joel
You are always a huge inspiration, thank you for sharing!
sei il più grande al mondo!
This is serious stuff. Some of the best throwing I've ever seen. I aspire to be this great. wow.

Master class
Freaking A!!! superb solid stuff
Thank u sir
The velocity and corresponding linear flight is impressive, as always. Alternating throwing styles/spins in real time is challenging, as well. This is throwing at the highest levels.
Amazing to watch, you have great style and power to achieve the distance throws. I have heard before that the half spin is the same as the no spin throw, it does not work for me this way. But I can't use the technique much past 3m either. It is 'skanf'? , a great style but so much more difficult to master, (for me) I will persevere. Always an inspiration to watch you throw🙏
After long time of studying SKANF I still don’t what is it. There is no clear definition. In this video, from 1:35 on, you can see Fedin throwing half spins which behave like no spin: ruclips.net/video/pHJdN_ySTxo/видео.htmlsi=csHCCcdIk2pdV6Rq I think he had a theory about wave-energy going not only from the lower body to the hand, but into the tip of the knife as well. I might be wrong.
@joelholopainen6865 I've been able to achieve overhand waves that i felt the energy go through like a whip, but I'm having a hard time with consistency using other angles. Even then, i push the knife too much
@@joelholopainen6865 thank you for the reply, I have heard from others the same, not sure what skanf is.. I have seen Olga and others demonstrate it, but I cannot grasp how both no spin and half spin are effectively the same, I have tried, and for me they arent🙄 your power throws are also something to be in awe of🙏🙏
@@gondaftThere is some difference of course but you can’t control those nyances with conscious mind. That’s why it’s best to regard no spin and half spin as one and the same. Mind set must be simple and clear, then body can follow it.
@@joelholopainen6865 thank you Joel, as with everything in life, if it looks easy, it probably isn't. I have long way to go😊 maybe see you in czech next year for the world championship? Respect🙏

I seriously need to get back into knife throwing...
same. my neighbors hate when I do it
@@TheCreedBratton That's the best reason to!
As always, the throwing is highly impressive. Note the distances on some of these throws: a casual throw from 12 meters isn’t casual at all. I suppose I should be focusing on the knife being highlighted, but Joel could throw an inflated aardvark from 10 meters and stick it. Repeatedly. With/without rotation. --> No inflatable aardvarks were hurt in this theoretical example. 😉
I could have sworn it said "BUDK" knives 😂😂. Good video! 👌
Hahah... That's the first thing my brain saw, too. 🤣🤣

thank you for another upload boss.
Is is easier for you to throw side arm opposed to over shoulder?
With sidearm I can activate more muscles for example pecs and lats!
why can't i stop opening my hand when throwing ? any tips
@@vernonodell5286 try different kind of release. Forget pushing with index. Instead of pushing with index just keep the grip firm enough and let the knife slide out byitself. I talk about this approach more on my newer video ”how to throw a knife (the punching method)”
Great Video, very calm and Strong. Thank you
I noticed when practicing this myself, that I have a lot of strain on my shoulder. How often do you rest? Any tips to avoid injury? Thank you!
I practice just 1-3 times per week. Shoulder pain is common among any kind of throwers. My osteopath friend always advices me to do a little of some sort of HEAVY weight strength training to keep the injuries at bay.
I also noticed while watching your videos and some of Tom Tom's videos that the knife is straight the ENTIRE flight, from the moment it leaves your hand to hitting the board. Does this just come with practice? Is this the perfect no spin throw?
@@jaketwilcox13 it’s a feature of wave no spin throw which is based on pulling. It cannot be achieved with push-style. Keep firm grip all the way like you were not want to let go of the knife and throw with your lower body (legs and hips) while everything else is relaxed (but guided).
Very nice work, sir. 👍👍
I aspire to throw like you someday
