Tom, who made the model of the GS4?
When was this filmed?

I love the stack talk , those hoggers ran the guts out of these locos and still they are repairable. What a treasure the EBT is , I am so glad it is in good hands . It could have been scrapped or turned into a Disney type side show. !!
Nickel Plate Road 759 (Built by Lima Locomotive Works in August 1944) running on the Norfolk & Western Railroad trackage.
That sounds really good wgat decoder do you have in there?
Side bar: Why on earth did the filmmakers in those days (and I remember those type films in my 1950s school days) use white titles/stories over mostly light shaded scenery where, even when it was a relatively new film, you could not read them much the time (as is here) ?? Today titles/subtitles are black (or if white, have a black backing)..
The sound on this is amazing. That first scene with the tarin ascending around the curve gave me goosebumps.
Thank you MUCH, for uploading this.
This is the famous "Blackhawk Film". It's a well-made transfer. Some of the darker spots could use a little exposure correction. Black locomotives and cars need a little over-exposure to be seen clearly. Overall, a well-done presentation of a rarely-seen film. ETA: I see I've been given a Facebook-type handle. This is incorrect; I'm not on Facebook.
Blackhawk released loads of good films back in the day
what happened to 4449? is it still in operation?
Yes

The New York Central had been a great passenger railway pre war and during WW2 and massively over invested in something like a 1000 new long distance stainless steel carriages in 1945-9 adding to the debt but the NYC was particularly disadvantaged post wat as its main routes NY Chicago and NY Detroit were those were the low and rough riding piston Constellations and Boeing Stratocruisers had the greatest advantage and business market as tbe 2/3 hoursto Detroit or Chicago in a 300mph airliner vibrating 3.5 miles high was vearable. The other railways had shorter more didect routes the Pennslvania route. Was 60 miles less fo Vhicago and 150 miles less from Philidelphia to Chicago about 13 houes rather than 16.hrs on ths NYC. The Baltimore and Ohio had the lock on the services to St Louis and the still existant Capitol limited is a much shorter route. Prior go the effective arrival of the DC8 and 707 in 1960 rail was still competitive on long 2000 trips Chicago LA abd NY Miami just like the Queen Elizabeth and USS United States on the trans Atlantic partly because of the many crashes and failures of the UKs new Comets and turbo prop Viscounts and the US Lockheed turboprop Electras which were smoother than fhe Piston DC7 or Super Constellation but no faster The several civilian airliners that wiped themselves out on the walls of the Grand Canyon also asdisted the Santa Fe like the Ennslvania Railway to stay effectively in the passenger market toll the late 1960s as gbeir railways image was.built on first class service alnost regardless of the cost to the Railway or Passenger. The NYC ceased tobe a serious rail passenger line long before tbe jet airliner ldt alone thenPe n Central msrger in 1968 or Amtdak in 1971 because its water level route was the leat competitive and it could not afford the luxuty.
You should be able to get it to run slower by making sure the value for CV 215 matches your track voltage.

Nice. I just ordered the same model; I've been wanting a steam locomotive and this is the one. I hope it runs well on my layout. Did you use JMRI Decoder Pro to adjust the CV's? Would you mind sharing the changes you made? Thanks for the reviews, they convinced me to buy this model.
Cool you did the horn. How about you actually do the whistle?
@@joenewstead4848 in another video maybe. Using the horn was standard SP practice.
Nice review, I appreciate you going over the improvements. I've been thinking about getting one of these locomotives, although I have no need for one other than they are cool. What radius curves are you running the locomotive on?
Tonight I’ll be really testing her, this video was just on two pieces of EX track straight
@@CPR2839 For my layout it would have to be able to manage a 22" curve. I've been wanting a steam locomotive but have been concerned about a locomotive this length being able to run on my layout. The SP MT4 with the skyline casing is a beautiful locomotive.
Come see lucastrainverse!
Finally it’s about time those came out where can I find one of these also do they pull any better than the first run?
Running video to be made soon!
@@CPR2839 ok sounds good I would love to hear the sounds now was it me or did they do a firebox flicker on this run?
@@nw611Jthey did not.
@@CPR2839 ok sounds good thanks man o look forward to seeing the running video and hearing how they sound.
Thanks! Interested in the model and its running characteristics but I’m not a fan of traction tires. I remove them from BLI and Rapido steam as soon as possible. Looking fwd to the run, review!
I have got to see all three steam locomotives that pulled the American Freedom Train back between 1975 and 1976. All at there current locations.

Amazing
I remember this we'll, chasing it east and south Texas. We went to Houston to see it. When I hired out for Santa Fe out of Galveston in 1979 I got to work with the crew members who caught this train out of Bellville TX west and east.
Fabulous Locomotive is it and i wish she's steamed again.
The Union Pacific 9000 class is certainly one of the most unique Steam Locomotives in all of the US. Their unique 4-12-2 Wheel arrangement certainly makes them very strong engines, however, because all those 12 wheels are stuck together on a single frame, they can’t take sharp turns that well, which is why they were mostly restricted to valleys where the curves are easier for them. Anyways, I say that if I ever do HO scale modeling some day, which I hope I can, I would definitely like to acquire a UP 9000 class, along side other Steam, Diesel, and Electric locomotives.
Bit of a shame most of the consist of the AFT didn't survive once the tour had concluded in the US and Canada.
Only the three locomotives, the sleeper, and the last 4 cars survive. The tool baggage car was cut up for scrap in 2023.
