Our Washing Machine Broke...Again
Просмотров 573 года назад
After several weeks of satisfactory operation, our 25-year old washing machine broke again. This time it was the motor-transmission coupling assembly. Thankfully, it was a fairly easy fix. So, if your washing machine stops agitating and spinning when it should, this video could show you how, for less than $20 in parts, and a couple hours max in work, to get it running again yourself. Enjoy!
Mynt 3D Pen Project #3: PLA Soup Bowl Cover (FAIL!)
Просмотров 423 года назад
Have you ever put soup in the microwave and had it splatter? The solution is to cover the bowl with a paper towel, but then you have the problem of the paper towel falling into the soup, and if it sits long enough, all the soup siphons out into the microwave (which is worse than not covering it in the first place). In this video, I attempt to make a frame out of PLA that would hook onto my soup...
Home Repair Vlog: Our Dishwasher Broke Too!
Просмотров 213 года назад
As commented on in my last video, our dishwasher broke in the same week as our washing machine. This time, it appears that the control panel is out, which is half the cost of a new dishwasher, so we just bought a new one. With a busy life schedule thought, I waited until the day of delivery to uninstall the old one, and I ran into a few snags along the way. So, join with me in this video as I h...
Home Repair Vlog: Our Washing Machine Broke
Просмотров 633 года назад
Instead of "how-to's" I'm going to start calling these videos "Home Repair Vlogs," because my intention isn't so much a step-by-step guide as it is to show what I went through to fix what I have. Today, I took a look at our early-90's Kenmore Series 80 heavy duty top-loading washing machine. One thing about washing machines, they're mostly built very similarly, with minimal changes in overall d...
Random Ingredient Dinner Challenge
Просмотров 93 года назад
Sort of a self-imposed challenge, sort of a request from my wife Ali: I was asked to get rid of several items in our refrigerator, and I had to be creative to get them all to go together. Those items included: lettuce, bell peppers, orange juice, and tomatoes. I decided to add a few more items that had been sitting for a while (mostly in our freezer), and the result was a rather tasty salad wit...
Mynt3D Project #2: Making a 6-Sided Die (1D6)
Просмотров 303 года назад
Last Christmas I was given a wonderful gift: a Mynt3D 3D Pen. It's basically a polymer extruder, or a 3D printer without the programmed frame. Anyway, here is my second successful project, creating a six-sided die from scratch. I'm not very skilled with this pen yet, but I was still able to rough-out the shape, the dots, and form it together. Just another fun thing that you can do with a 3-D pe...
Our EPIC, 15-State, 3,600 mile, 16-day Road Trip with a Baby: Part 8
Просмотров 23 года назад
Another relatively relaxed day. At this point I felt a bit idle, not having done any work for a week, so I decided to help my father in-law clean, acid-etch, and seal his garage in preparation for turning it into a wood shop. Unfortunately, I did not film that. More to come on future days!
Our EPIC 15-Day, 3,600 mile, 14 State Road Trip with a Baby, Part 7
Просмотров 53 года назад
Day 7 we spent back in Blacksburg, VA, and being 7-days in, we decided to take it a bit easy. We went out to eat, we spent some time at Ali's parents house, we played some games. Not a whole lot of interesting road-trippy stuff on day 7, so this video heavily features our then 11-month old son Lincoln just being his cute, curious self. More to come with day-8!

On Day 6 of our 2019 road trip we took a ride to Roanoke, VA where Virginia Tech's Medical School campus is located. We stopped to eat at the Salad Factory, and made a trip out to see the Roanoke Star, and the view from the pavilion on that mountain. The drive up to the Star also commenced the issues we began to have with our car, which overheated on the steep terrain. Still it was worth it for...
Fixing Holes in the Wall of My Garage
Просмотров 3,7 тыс.3 года назад
For the 12 years we've lived in our home, we've never moved some plywood sheets in our garage that the previous owners (who had owned the home since the 60's) had left in place to cover some damage to the walls. Feeling ambitious (and always wanting to add content) I decided to finally tackle the task of patching some of these holes, and test out a couple of methods for patching holes in drywal...

On day 5 of our 15-day road trip in 2019 we spent the day relaxing a bit and exploring Blacksburg, Virginia, with Ali's dad & step-mom, and where the main campus of Virginia Tech is located. We went to a landmark donut shop in town (the Carol Lee Donut Shop), then Macado's for lunch. It was much more laid back day after 4 days of intense travel, and the whole family needed it. I especially enjo...

Welcome to day 4! That's how we felt anyway. On the 4th day of our trip, we woke up, and Lincoln tried cheese grits for the first time. Sadly, he didn't like them (Ali & I thought they were pretty good). Before departing Pittsburgh, we decided to check out the indoor-outdoor pool at our hotel (lots of fun), and then it was off to Blacksburg via West Virginia (Oh country roads!). As it was a lon...

Cleveland was a wonderful stay. On day 3, we drove to our next stop, which was Pittsburgh. Like Cleveland, neither Ali nor I (nor Lincoln) had ever been to Pittsburgh before, and it was different than we expected. The area is very hilly, and the major part of the city is in a valley between two ridges. After arriving, we went and visited the University of Pittsburgh campus (Ali also applied to ...

Cracked and glued records should be played with steel needle. So you need a vintage player, what hasn't gem stylus. So you could save the music.

This is a futile exercise. There is no remedy whatsoever ,when shallac record discs break. If we repair these records ,the needle faces like a speed breaker with noise at the repaired crack spot. Therefore to repair such type of records , is not advisable.

A very good restoration example for all those who think broken grammophone records cannot be fixed. The caveat is of course that this method requires a lot of dexterity and patience as well as speed (if using instant super glue). The speed issue could be addressed by using a two-part epoxy glue but I have no idea whether that kind of glue would work. It would also require much more careful application due to the increased likelihood of seepage because of the extra amount of glue involved. Now if only there were a good glue applicator specifically made for grammophone records dispensing only the right amount of glue!

I heard, a fixed broken record should be played one time with steel needle, to keep the music. So it would be a good idea to get a vintage record player with steel needles.

I have been looking for help with my concrete sink. It seems to be missing the first part that you had to cut off. It's just a pipe lined up to the tailpipe and water leaks around that gap. After a bunch of searching on RUclips where I was given things that were not at all applicable this is my exact sink with my exact piping. Hopefully this video is the break through I need. Also big big thanks for listing the parts you used.

Hi there... what kind of super glue do you use?... I found several types: Super Glue-3 Líquid Original, Super Glue-3 Líquid Max Precision, Super Glue-3 plastic,... or the ingredients that super glue contains and look for a generic one here...I live in México and I need to know wich one I have to buy(order, not avaliable here)... I aprecciate your videos, they show me how to fix my broken records, thanks a lot... greetings.

Very interesting. I have tried this myself with similar results. Although I know these later records are softer and not designed for acoustic machines, playing with a steel needle might help clean glue out of the groove and would avoid risking a modern cartridge on it. Thanks 😀 👍

Sounds OK. Sound could probably be cleaned up by running it through a program, like DAK's Depopper program. Posiibly if you played it on an acoustice phonograpgh with a steel needle might have smoothed out the break.

Sousa would always conduct the last section of his marches faster the second time around. For The Stars And Stripes Forever though, at some point audiences started preferring to hear the last part of the song played slower and more dramatically when it is repeated. Sousa hated this but begrudgingly conducted it that way so that the people got what they wanted. I've always wanted to hear what it would be like to hear it the way it was intended so this is pretty cool. It's also interesting that the iconic piccolo part wasn't played as a solo, being mostly overpowered by the melody. Then they ended up being nearly the loudest voice during the repeat, even though everyone else got louder too. Real interesting stuff.
