Such a devastating news !! I was a student of Allen Da Silva Sir at Scottish Church College way back in 1995-7 . As I was reading Wordsworth's Daffodils today for no great rhyme or reason, I suddenly remembered Sir and thought of looking him up when I came across your post. A stunning quality of simplifying the complex at the level of most without diluting the core in his magnetic diction and vocalulary, is what distinctly stands out about him in my memory. Notwithstanding a suave sense of humour, not to be forgotten. That was a man. Whence comes such another?

I heard this song for the first time when I was a kid, maybe 7/8 years old. I loved it and I still remember it and have sung it many times, in English and in Spanish, as an adult. I enjoy your intros as they are very informative and give a good perspectuve about the song. As you were singing I accompanied harmonizing. Thanks for the gift.

Lovely ! Thanks for reminding the golden days . 1973 batch . Was in this school from 1961 to 1973. At beginning this song was sung like from Darjeeling to Karachi and later changed to Sreenagar . Witnessed the great auditorium built and had old Navy blue and white school uniform , only skirt no trousers were allowed

Sadly, that song, I'm sure is politically incorrect these days. I'm glad I'm still able to hear this Stephen Foster song. On a much lighter note, this old Chicago area native, thought Suwanee River was written by Ed Norton.
