Not paying u patreon $ for a winch that doesn't work.
I appreciate your feedback and completely understand your concern. The winch project is a work in progress, and I've shared all components and updates so others can follow along and learn as I develop and refine it. While it’s not fully operational yet, I’m committed to getting it there and making it a functional unit. My goal is to create something valuable, and your support on Patreon directly contributes to that progress. Thanks for being a part of this journey-I’m excited to keep improving and sharing each step with you!
Hmmmm
I have 4 similar motors with 500Amps ESC’s do you have any video of how to calibrate the ESC’s , I’m using Ardupilot and Orange cube plus as FC ,I appreciate if you can help !
You can refer to the following article for ESC calibration. Keep in mind that beep sequences may vary slightly between different ESC models, so be sure to consult your ESC’s manual for precise instructions: epowerhobby.com/how-to-calibrate-your-esc-for-optimal-performance/
@ thank you very much , I did find this routine and tried it but it seems to me I can’t get it right at all , there are absolutely no videos of calibration example using motors and big ESC’s like ours ( 400 ~ 500Amps ) . I’m running 4 x APS 120100 / 70 Kv / 25Kw with two batteries one 7s and one 8s and a 500Amps ESC - mosfet . Now all “ The Big Boys” have videos of calibrations of their tinny toys . No one has a calibration video step by step with these real big components,if you ever decide to make one I will love to watch it . Kind Regards George
I'm not sure if you're aware, but some ESCs do not have a BEC, which means they don't provide the necessary voltage to power a servo tester. I'm not certain about your specific setup, but you may need to supply 5 or 6 volts to your throttle/servo using an external battery. In your case, the issue can be related to the external battery.
@ thank you , you are right , I read the instructions and it says “ No Bec “ , I will have another go, thank you very much , does that mean my big esc’s need a separate power as well all the time ?
No, not ESC, your throttle. You must supply separate voltage to throttle
Mate can I ask - how do you calibrate the ESC for this outrunner ?

Applause to your effort on this project. I also have constructed my own winch, but only pay-out, so it requires someone to drive the car during tow. I would love to have the option to launch solo. What is your expected use case? IMO, if you are standing 1 km behind the car, and you initiate a pay-in launch, then your AGL at release will be 300m at BEST CASE. That is quite low to be hunting for thermals. However, if you park the car at the base of a mountain, then 300m will give you excellent opportunity to find ridge lift.
Thanks for your comment! My winch, with 1000 to 2000 ft rope length, is mainly for training and fun. Solo operation was a key focus for me, so I don’t need a driver during tow. I agree, hitting 300m AGL from 1 km isn’t ideal for thermals, but it works for practicing launches. Parking at the base of a mountain could definitely boost opportunities for ridge lift and better flights.
You can turn away from the winch fly 600m than turn back you repeat 2 time you have 500 on a thermic day more than enough...

Looking forward seeing the next episodes . wish you success . Thank you .
Currently, I am working on setting up the controller and integrating it with the remote throttle. Thank you for your positive comments; they are a great help with this project.
Thank you sir you have done a great project ❤❤
It's my pleasure
Thank you for this great diy tutorial ❤❤❤❤

hello, thanks for your time to support us. Can you share the project?
Yes, you can access this project on my Patreon page. I'm still working on finalizing the remote throttle setup, but once that's done, I'll upload the connection details there. In the meantime, I've already uploaded the 3D model on Patreon, where you can view all the dimensions from the drawing. www.patreon.com/user/posts?u=119232385
Make the casing of the winch drum from at least 8 mm aluminum or 6 mm steel!! A huge amount of force builds up on the drum during winching. Don't waste your time with this...do something much stronger!!!
I'm in the process of learning and gathering data. Once I complete the testing, any issues I find will help me learn and gather the necessary information to fix them. This is all subject to testing. Thank you for your comment!
After testing at the field it seems that casting works very well, and i don't have any issues with this.

Looks good. Can't wait to see how you get the electronics working!
How much power has this hub engine ? In my understanding, you need several kW for a decent winch.

Can the silver propeller shaft extender part be removed/replaced on this motor?
looks great! Have you published your design anywhere by any chance?

No no no! Don't cut on the upper and lower surface! That's where the material has the biggest influence on the stiffness of the arm. You can make your arms lighter but only on the sides
If I am not mistaking (I may), biggest influence will be on sides, not on top and bottom. Prop will produce vertical force, in this case moment will be against side wall which is 1.5 high. Of course moment will be agains top and bottom, however, thickness of top and bottom walls just 1/8" x 2walls=1/4" vs side wall 1 1/2". In my opinion 1 1/2" is much stronger than 1/4". Let me know your thoughts. Thanks again!

What is the specs on the this ESC?
Here is the link to sepcs: epowerhobby.com/product/e-power-hobby-esc-28s/
The main plate looks very heavy! Have you done any structural analysis? Because the grooves for the arms will iniate cracks on the plates. The same plate without grooves and bolted through your would already be better. To make your arms lighter, don't open them on the upper or lower surface. That's where the material plays the biggest role on the structure rigidity. You can open but on the sides.
Thanks for your comment! Yes, I agree with you that main plate is too heavy. I mentioned in video that I'll cut off middle part of the plate. Reason why I didn't, I was waiting on flight controller. I need to see first how I'll mount the flight controller on the plate and then cut the rest of the material. No, I didn't performed structural rigidity analysis, for now simply because I don't know how to :). However, definitely in the future project I'll. I am not planning to use this frame for long flights. The idea is to just collect info how is large drone behaves in the air. Collect data and train myself to use DJI A3 Pro software. Anyway, thank you for valued comments!
Looking forward to your first flight 👍

Prove it :) Send video URL :))))))) hahaha
@@epowerhobby I will in a couple of weeks when there is some progress
@@epowerhobby unfortunately the project got delayed, but I now have built the skateboard and I have the motor and ESC. Do you have a similar problem where at a specific low rpm the motor just doesn't want to run and always stops? I have found when I power through that rpm then it's fine, but obviously I also want to run it at low rpm, so I'd like to find a fix for that...
@@Blockbuster2033 I think that is a controller issue. Maybe you can change a setting on the ESC? What kind of ESC are you using?
@@imperialsecuritybureau6037 I'm using basically the same controller as in this video, but one size smaller. I think it's rated 300A instead of 450A. I tried out different settings, but I have decided to just switch to an ESC with VESC firmware as that may provide a better platform for my application.

Thanks, what propeller you suggest for the 50 KV 120100 motor ?
@@arcanablood-demon9272 This all depends on pilot weight. I still trying to figure out best setup. 50KV will work for this prop, however, it may overheat the motor.
Hi What potenciometer you use ?
Hi, Here is the link: www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/sensata-bei-sensors/9610R3.4KL2.0/1724-1064-ND/6244983
Move the kill switch looks too close to the throttle. Look at the Synergy7 paramotor throttle. Looks similar, smaller grip to allow holding everything else.
Hi Dime excellent progress , the only addition i would suggest is that you put a movable sleeve over that thin/fragile looking looking sliding throttle part as i suspect in its present form it would accidentally break easily maybe a aluminium tube to beef up the design ...this throttle is a very nicely done and cool design :-)
Yes, I will, thanks!
I agree too. Every rider operates differently and I can see when you are running while taking off there can be a mishap leading to breaking that thorn. Speaking of thorn it will be uncomfortable overtime. Good job doe! Cheers.
Looking good
Thanks Patrick!
