Diagnose Check Engine Light, 2010-2017 Ram 2500/3500 : AlfaOBD Basics for FCA, U3017 Fault Code
In this video I give you a basic walkthrough of diagnosing a check engine light on a 2015 Ram 3500 using AlfaOBD. AlfaOBD is a dealer level diagnostic program used to diagnose faults within any Chrysler vehicle. Although this video is shot on a 2015 Ram 3500, it can be applied to any FCA vehicle years 1996 and newer.
As noted in this video, if you are attempting to use AlfaOBD on a FCA vehicle that is 2018 or newer, you will need an OBD Bypass module. The link for that is below. This is not a sponsored link.

2010-2018 Ram 2500/3500/4500/5500 6.7 Cummins Coolant Flush and Thermostat Replacement
Просмотров 84 тыс.2 года назад
In this episode, we're draining and refilling the coolant while replacing the thermostat. The coolant in this vehicle has been flushed multiple times. Due to this, we are only doing a drain and refill as there is semi-fresh coolant already in the system. The cooling system has a 6-gallon capacity. With this method, you'll get roughly 5 gallons out. We're executing this service on a 2014 Ram 350...
G56 Transmission Fluid Change & TDS PTO Cover Install, 2010-2018 Ram 2500/3500/4500/5500

In this video, we're draining the transmission fluid and installing a TDS PTO Cover to make fluid changes easier in the future. The PTO cover allows us to fill from the fill plug machined into it and add an extra 3 quarts to the factory fill. Some people attempt to fit 6 quarts into the transmission by doing a top side fill, removing the shift tower, and filling it that way. We're able to accom...

We're doing this fluid change to a 2014 Ram 3500 SRW. The service schedule notes to make the changes every 15,000 Miles for the rear, but nothing for the front. Due to winter conditions in Alaska, I change mine every 15,000 with my rear. I spend half the year driving in snow in 4X4. We are also installing a Mag Hytec differential cover in order to allow us to service the diffs without removing ...

If it's loose the valves are closed if it's tight the valves are open
Do you have to replace the Valve cover gasket that has the injector harness attached to it?
Hey do you know what you torqued the 6 bolts to that secure the valve cover?
I couldn’t find any exact torque numbers, but almost every external bolt is torqued to 18 ft. lbs. That’s what I torqued them to with no issues.
Great job thank you for that
Whats the normal temperature for these types of engines
190-220F There’s a range of thermostat options, I’ve seen 190, 200 and 220 on places like rock auto. Just as a small note, higher operating temperatures usually result in higher efficiency and less engine wear.
You do not have to remove the cover to drain the fluid. The bottom diff cover bolt is the drain
Great vid
Great video needed one like this
Awesome video
Still worth it? Stock shifter seems to be super tight and takes extra effort to get into gear.

What is the smaller o-ring in the package for?
03:30. for that metal piece cover... it goes on the filter canister grove side
Another great video! Thank you!

Where is the TDC pointer? What do I align the mark up with
I apologize for the late reply, I’ve had a crazy last few months moving from Alaska back to Texas. I’m sure you’ve probably already figured this out, but for future viewers I’ll go ahead and respond and pin your comment. At approximately 2:07 I show the TDC mark on the Harmonic Balancer. I’ve painted mine with an orange paint pen to make it easier to see. The harmonic balancer will have a straight line with TDC stamped into it next to the line. There isn’t a pointer or alignment mark, the TDC mark just needs to pointed directly up at the 12’oclock position. You can eyeball it and verify that you are indeed TDC by the movement on the valve rockers. If rockers are all tight, you haven’t reached TDC. If there are loose valve rockers, compare them to the notes in the description to see which set of valves are ready to be adjusted. Thanks for your engagement!
I just used a pry bar with a vacuum cap over the end and pried on the timing lugs on the crankshaft pulley
Holy Moly Giant mess. Doing this job as you teach! Lol. I should have put a bigger mouthed protein lick bucket under there to catch what came from the two sides
I apologize for the late response. Thank you for following along. It is a messy job, but sure does beat paying a shop to do it.
Awsome video. Thank you sir.
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it!
For a correction here, the RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid and the NX300h have the 2.5 2AR-FE engine. The NX200t/300 has the 2.0T 8AR-FTS engine.
All the way
Any idea on gear oil type for a 2012 dodge Cummins 5500 for rear differential oil
Yes sir, check out this link. This will break down service intervals and the factory recommended fluids/capacities. www.dieselhub.com/maintenance/6.7-cummins-maintenance-schedule.html
How is it holding up? Did it take away the right movement the factory gave?
It’s held up really well. I’m planning to do a follow up video about how it drives after 6 months to give my final thoughts. As of right now the truck drives much better. The stabilizer didn’t remove all of the shakes but it did have a significant impact. I believe what is left is just a product of a 3500 and M/T tires.
@@AllAmericanGarage reservoir fox shocks on the front may help.
You keep saying o-ring... Don't you mean crush washer? I could never tighten that oil filter cap by hand to 25N•m (18 ft.lbs.). I'm sure I would have to use an oil filter cap wrench attached to a ratchet.
Yes, the crush washer for the drain plug. I’d be careful attaching to a ratchet. It’s extremely easy to over-tighten with a ratchet. I ran my torque wrench on 18ft-lbs, once it was torqued I checked it by hand. I was still able to get about a quarter turn out of it even once torqued.
@@AllAmericanGarage Well our vehicle has the same design. I am unable to screw it on until it reaches 18 ft.lb. just with my bare hand. You must be a lot stronger than I am. And a torque wrench IS a ratchet, is it not?
Could flick the latch with a flat head screw driver on each side door so it thinks the doors are closed. Great detailed video. 👌
I didn’t even consider that, I appreciate the input and praise!
Did u use a gasket at all?
There isn’t a gasket for this particular cover, the integrated O-Ring in the cover is meant to function as a stand alone.
@@AllAmericanGaragehow many quarts did u ended up using with the new cover?
✨ 『p』『r』『o』『m』『o』『s』『m』
I believe this should be a 2.5 liter engine. That's what's in our 2009: RAV4.
You are right, the 2.5L is an option for the RAV4’s. However, depending on year and trim of the vehicle, there are also 2 2.0L options for the vehicle.
@@AllAmericanGarage In 2009 in the USA there was the 2.5 liter four cylinder and a V6 option.
Thank you for the video. Good info.
Another great video from the All American Garage. Thank you.
Does this shifter make a bunch of noise? I’ve heard bad reviews because of it not having the runber damper the stock shifter had.
It does make a lot of noise. My trucks straight piped with a Dual Disk, so it’s already annoyingly loud to most. It doesn’t bother me. I intend to publish a video at the end of the month with my thoughts on it. I’ll try to capture the noise.
Does your engine burn or leak oil?
It does not
Great Video. I also remember dropping 6 quarts of oil on the ground after my helper forgot to put the drain plug in. 😂
Sure blame it on your helper... That wasn't one of your kids was it? I admit, I did that myself once but it was only 2 or 3 quarts that went straight through the engine when I realized what I did. Oh well, I'm 75 and that was the first time I did something like that.
@@njsongwriter lol I am his kid. I think that was a sarcastic joke since I threw him under the bus in this video😅
Thank you for posting another great video!!!
Have a question have a 2018 Dodge Ram 3500 that has no turbocharge power have no leaks and no codes haven't foundthe issue the egr systemhas been deleted any suggestions for this issue.
Is the turbo spooling? With the EGR deleted you should be able to hear it pretty well. How are you identifying that you no power from the turbo? Is it based off the factory boost gauge on your dash?
Turbo actuator is likely stuck. It's fairly common. City Diesel makes an actuator replacement kit. It's fairly simple to do from the passenger side fender well.
I had code U010C (Lost communication to Turbo). Symptoms are low boost until 4th gear. EB eventually stopped working. Test 4 wire plug at turbo actuator. Pin 1 = 12.6 volts, Pin 2 and 3 = 2.5 volts (+/- 0.8 volts is fine) key on and 120ohms key off. Pin 2 and 3 are your can bus communication wires to your ECM. Pin 4 is ground/return. If yours plug to actuator test OK then pull actuator. Make sure you drain your coolant first. Check by hand that your turbo gear/lever moves from closed to open with little effort. If it moves freely then 97minitaco is correct. City Diesel actuator is the way to go. If the turbo lever is hard to move/doesn't move you need a new turbo.
@@aholmes447if the lever is hard to move why not just replace the actuator vice the entire turbo?
@andymike6575 The lever gear is on the turbo side and runs inside of the turbo. The actuator is the motor side and splines on to the gear/lever. There may be a way to disassemble the entire turbo and clean it to get the vanes unstuck (which would free up the lever to turn freely). Everyone I know that has a stuck lever gear on the turbo side replaces the turbo. Fortunately, mine moved freely. So just replacing the actuator fixed my issue. Unfortunately City Diesel was 5 weeks on backorder. So, I had to go with a cheap Amazon one. So far it's holding up though.
Thank you
