“What do you do between sets?” I got this question a lot when people found out I don’t listen to music when I train. I follow these simple rules: 📵 Unless you’re tracking your previous set, stay off your phone to limit distractions and minimise the overall workout duration. 😮💨 A difficult set might steal your breath away. Focus on regulating your breathing, in through your nose and out through your mouth. This also helps regulate your heart rate. 🙆♂️ Stretch the muscles you just worked through dynamic stretches (like shown in this video). 💭 Visualise your next set based on feedback from your previous set. Studies show that this can help with your execution and performance 💦 Stay hydrated, sip on some water

How long should we take break in between sets?
This can vary between individuals based on lifestyle, physical and even mental factors. Personally, 90-120sec is the sweet spot for my compound movements, and 45-60sec for isolations. This helps me recover sufficiently between sets, maintain concentration in sessions and keeps my total workout duration feasible for my lifestyle.

How important is managing training volume? Do you do it?
Crucial. It’s been key in the past year, helping me achieving the HSPU, while also maintaining other skills and muscle. I also emphasise a sustainable approach, which falls under volume management. E.g. designing a program that’s feasible in a busy lifestyle, minimises risk of overuse injuries, but sufficiently stimulates for continual progress. One’s volume requirement is highly influenced by individual factors. Let me know if you need a hand with yours 🙌🏽
