Does it bother you that it’s not auto focused like the Apex??

@@depthofieldmedia​​⁠no, I’m most familiar with manual focus anamorphics, I think it’s maybe the top and bottom of the frame. I love the distortion at the sides, but somewhere around the 45° angle it starts to look less filmic, and more funhouse clown mirror

@ fair enough! The Apex being 1.33x instead of 1.5x will have less distortion and stretch so makes sense if you’d prefer that, I’m just a sucker for character after being spherical lenses for so long haha!!

The only settings you can control are shutter, ISO and Aperture, as well as start/stop recording and tap auto focus! If you're talking about things like changing colour profiles or formatting your cards, you cant do that as of yet and dont think there are plans to

I agree it will cost more, but same could be said for any camera. You will of course need a lens, batteries, a cage, etc, I just wanted to clarify that starting price of just the body, as that will be in some cases the most significant cost. I’m essentially stating that for a little over £1K for just the body, you can get RAW recording and 12 bit colour, instead of spending 3 times the price on something like the FX3 which has less capability👌🏻 (also the follow focus and audio reorders are more a luxury than a necessity)

If you’re a commercial operator it doesn’t need to be said at all… because your miles ahead of just starting out. Bearing in mind HOUSE MD was shot on three canon 5dmk2…. U do not need a follow focus, and many other items to make money in this era. The most important thing is what you make, not what you make it with.

@@depthofieldmedia Got mine yesterday and did a gig today. I love it! Had the previous version before and bought the portkeys lph5 but returned it. The shinobi ii has a much sharper image than the portkeys.

Yeah I realised that this year, very much a dealbreaker!

That’s fair enough, not every monitor is going to suit everyone, most monitors I’ve used get warm so was not one of the deal breakers for me

@flintandsteel98 the irony part is that, the cheaper monitor that I have got the adjustments that I need which makes no sense to why buy the atomos. Really disappointing

I don’t think it’s something that just appears when you press the record button on your Sony, you have to specifically press the record button on the Shinobi II located with the rest of the camera controls👌🏻

@ low key I was in the same boat as you, love the Shinobi II but need HDMI out & wired camera control. I dropped the money on the Portkeys BM7 II DS because 7inch screen really works better for me. But yea the Portkeys LH5P II has nice UI and all the ports you need (beside SDI) I considered getting an HDMI splitter (1 in 2 out) off amazon but haven’t had the time to Frankenstein that solution yet.

Blackmagic cameras are stereotypically big and bulky (that being the main issue), so I wanted to find a way to make it as small as possible👌🏻

Anyone who owns a Blackmagic camera tends to have it really rigged out with vmount batteries, handles, etc, and so I wanted to find the smallest, compact setup without compromising on too many things👌🏻
