Thank you so much for sharing this! The level of detail and explanation is incredible. Really helped me here.
Thanks for posting this! Still helping people years later . . . I did run into the 3-beep thing. I believe it was the connection down by the 12V / HDMI / USB. Antenna or immobilizer.
Thank you so much for the step by step video! I was able to replace the switch this weekend but it took way more effort than I expected. My dash trim pieces & lower panel didn't pop out as easily as yours and I had a hell of a time removing the connectors behind the radio since that step wasn't shown in the video. My partner ended up being the one that was able to figure out that part. I almost had a "why isn't this working oh shit" moment when I tried to turn it on & it just beeped at me. Until I figured out that I hadn't reconnected the plug from the lower cigarette lighter/USB panel. Whew. It's as good as new and I'm glad to saved several hundreds of $$$!
Great Video, I’m in the middle of this issue at the moment. Cleaning the contacts didn’t work. I’m hoping a new switch will fix it.
Thanks you so much. I Saved $550 dealer want to charge me $600 with part. 👍👍👍
Thank you so much for your tutorial , i think i wouldnt dissasemble and fix ir without yhis video specially that 3rd radio screw, again thank you
Thank youuuuu for this video! I put this off for too long just to get to the point of 15 pushes and fear of getting to/ from work. I followed your video and was able to change the button in about 3~ hours (it took me a minute to find that dang radio screw). I’m a 32 y/o woman with some slight hand tool skills and was able to do this myself. If you’ve been putting this off or are worried you can’t do this… you can!! 💪
Thank u so much! I was able to do it thanks to your perfect step-by-step guide, thank you so much
The hardest part for me was getting the plug off the back of the start button assembly. If you pull it out some then twist it to the right, its easier to push on the tab to release.
I can’t express how grateful I am with you for showing me how to replace this button, I was afraid at first but then I get the courage to do it by myself, and even though for some reason I couldn’t take apart the radio, I was successfully able to replace my Honda push star button. It really feels so great been able to do it by myself and than was because of this tutorial that you share
Thank you sr I got my fit fix
This is the best how to video i've ever seen. Thanks for actually showing every step along with the "oops" es
Brilliant video. Walked me through everything I needed to get this swap done. It seemed daunting but was actually pretty easy. Of note that is an 8mm bolt for the radio for anyone who has a metric set of tools.
Bryan you are amazing! I had the same issue and this video was so helpful in fixing this issue in my car. Thank you so much!
Thank you!
THIS video is solid. Thabk you for your efforts😊
Thanks for posting this video I appreciate it God bless you
Thank you, good sir! This fixed my problem.
You can remove this ignition switch in 15 minutes by removing the trim on the right side of the dash, then remove the lower panel under the steering column, then the glove compartment. You can reach the securing tab of the switch from the glove compartment side. To access the other side securing tab, remove the small panel on the RHS of the steering column.( has horizontal slots ) This gives you access to the other securing tab. Then simply depress both tabs and remove the switch. I've done this several time in 15 minutes only.
Please clarify which component is the “trim” on the right side of the dash. The “dashboard center lower cover” that has the 12v/HDMI/USB ports in it?
There is a small trim panel facing the driver’s door. This has to be removed first. I think I recall a 8mm hex bolt that has to be removed after this panel comes off.
I have a 2015 Honda Fit with a new battery and starter. It still won’t start after the first push. It takes 5-10 pushes to start. I’ll never buy another Fit because all it gives me is fits.
Mi civic tiene un problema que cuando pulso el boton start para apagar el auto, sucede que el estereo sigue encendido y no apaga nunca hasta que se descarga la bateria, alguien que me recomiende que hacer?
I changed the button with a new button. Had a bunch of no start issue and the car kept thinking the key remote is not in the car. So far, the car has started now…but I still have the Wi-Fi indicator on the dashboard. I guess the new button connectors are corroded or something. 😢
I paid Honda $500 to fix this issue 6 years ago (before your tutorial), and now it's happening again. I guess the contacts get corroded easily. Well I'm gonna diy this time around, Thanks!
where are you getting your start/stop switch?
How much does the new Smart Start button cost?
Around $30 US
Amazing video. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this. Saved me so much time!
Thank you very much. My jazz (in the u.s fit) here in Europe, the Netherlands, also works great again👍 I saved €400 at the Honda dealer.
Thanks dude. You saved me a lot of hassle. I walked through your video step by step and it went real well. Would have had a really hard time without using you as a guide. Thanks!!
Necesito un video de la Crv 2015 arreglando el mismo problema
Great video. BUT, a little ingenuity and I came up with a tool to remove the switch in about 5 minutes! Bent an old barbecue skewer to reach around the switch and push the tab in on the far side without any disassembly other than the beauty panel around the instrument cluster and the one to the left of the pushbutton. Looks like a hook. 1”, then a 90° bend, 2-3” to another 90° and a few inches for a handle. Work it over the top of the switch and pull it to the left, releasing the tab while using finger to release the other tab. Takes a little trial and error to get it, but so much easier than a full disassembly 😎
Can you post of picture of your modified skewer if you would please. Much Apprecuiated.
Yeah, can you post a picof the tool?
Hello, if you could post a video that would be amazing. Also, does this method let you clean it and put the same button back?
Just performed this fix on my 2015 EX Fit after almost two years of dealing with the start issue. Car is way out of the warranty period (194600 miles as of this comment) and I've had it since 2016 with 12,500 miles on it at delivery. It's my daily driver for a 40+ mile commute and has gone all over the Southeast and parts of the Midwest. This video saved me tons of money with just a few hours of my time and some minor discomfort squuezing myself into the floor board to get a better look at things. 😂 Biggest bugger was the bottom side radio bolt. I had to actually squeeze my big head down there to find it properly but once I did the sucker was out. I just cleaned the switch without replacing it but it did what I needed it to do.
About to do this project on my wife’s car. I will NEVER buy a push button only car.
Good luck with that
You are a master and amazing instructor. Thanks a lot. Blessings.
I used your video to replace my starter button (I just bought a new one) and your video was an invaluable resource
Excellent repair. Easy to follow too. Very well done. Going to repair my switch tomorrow, following your lead/
Good luck!
Excellent video. Helped me fix the exact problem in under 1h (that 3rd bolt under the radio was tricky). Thanks!
Worked like a charm! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Just changed mine out and it works like a dream. Cheers!
thank you worked perfectly. It’s true I connected everything but the little plug above the hdmi and I think most people forget about this. The immobilizer light goes on and car doesn’t start
Wow thank you so much "I really appreciate it" I watch a lot of videos but I can't.❤But I watched your video for the first time.❤I can do as you teach. You are really AWESOME 😃😃😃👍👍👍
Hi Thank you for your video. I opened mine but preferred to replace it. The gold plates couldn't be cleaned thoroughly. Bits and pieces got eaten off. Anyone repaired such?
Or just get the warranty repair for free.
Thanks a lot for the video! I don't understand why Honda would make this so difficult to remove. Most Honda models allow you to remove a single piece of plastic in order to get access to the button.
So frustrating, especially now I am on my second button failure. Dealer money maker?
Did u have to reprogram it
from where did you buy the push button?
These are great instructions. I was able to change my button following them. Thank you so much!
Thanks for showing it is possible for us DYIers to do. I hate that it is so complicated to get to a part that only needs 10 seconds to clean, yet the $20,000 car won't work at all until it is done! (MAjor Peeve!) They could have just put two Philips head screws on either side of the button, 'stead of having us have to pull all that other stuff out!
Pushstart broken. Replace pushstart $250. 3 days later stranded again. Tow truck $140. Diagnostic starter broken. Replace starter + diagnostic+labor. Total $1100. All of it caused by 25 cent contacts on a plastic switch. Absolutely disgusting. Why transport canada and consumer alert silent? Recall is fully warranted.
Who is right? Millions of Honda owners with pushstart failure? Or honda that says no issue?
It is so awful that so much similarity exists in subsystems between models, e.g., Honda Fit and Honda Accord, and the same Start/Stop Pushbutton problem in the 2017 Accord that I have, and almost 5 years of ownership this problem developed (in May 2022.) Long enough a story, I took it to the dealer (actually my spouse did) and idiotic people there took our money (and they are located in Clarksville, Maryland) but did not solved this problem. (I had insisted to them to replace the Start/Stop Pushbutton switch, because I had googled up and also watched some RUclips videos, but they refused that as they just replaced only a relay for the Stop light, as the thought they knew much with HDS, Honda Diagnosis System.) To minimize the cost after a WEEK (with two hours on each day), I towed our car back home. Obviously, I am interested/motivated to watch enough of these examples, and I will (later) give it a try on my car.
Saved me $3k at the dealership to swap an $80 part. Thank you -
