I'm amazed how this 1690's compo is nowaday revisited by many talented artists to turn it on an eternal Ultra Masterpiece again. Thank You. I do love this one. All I like is in it.

💎 💎 💎 "Ridiculous", the man has a full orchestra in his very singing. The arrangement too is exquisite, the end tells how much (if not realized before like me, entranced listening to Barnaby).

The strings are trying too hard for dramatic effect I feel, and over-use of dynamics.

Wow. Perfect version. Haunting and somber. People try so hard to nail the tempo they forget the emotion and story. This nailed both.

If you had to pick just one piece to illustrate what a towering genius Purcell was, this piece would serve perfectly.

Recorders need to be put in the front, ahead of the violins. They might be winds but they're not oboes. They really do get lost. Even when the violins are silent, the recording really loses the articulation of the interplay of the two recorders. What happens with the recorders @ 0:56-1:03? Is she lost? Nevertheless, great energy, and a fun performance.

what a tempo!!! I find it interesting that what is most likely a very faithful rendition is given by performers trying to show through their appearance that they're something new. They did it on purpose of course, and the effect is lovely.
