    Just as I suspected-the modern pen lacks the elegant shape of the Original-nothing is right about the 2021 pen-it probably doesn’t even have the revolutionary Collector under the hood. Btw, the Cocoa lucite looks great, love the fine line, and Canadian made 51s are always collectible.

    I have several P51, both original vacuumatic and aerometric. The post 1947 aerometric pens are superior for my hand. I do not like the cowl/nib gap on the new one. The vintage one can be filled, capped and left in your drawer for a month and it will immediately write. The issue I am having is that as I age my hands are becoming too stiff for such a small pen.

    When did Parker start using stainless steel nibs for the 51. I am looking for a vintage 51, but buying them is difficult, because most sites, including EBay do not tell you the year, or the nib type - which leaves the buyer completely in the dark. Any advice?

  • @N1inSK
    @N1inSK 8 месяцев назад

    I howed off my Kaweco SPort the 2023 Pelikan hub. One person said the cartridge doen't hold much ink; someone else said "You should see the cartridge converter they offer!" and I added, "Yeah, and ue a stub nib with it." The fellow beside me said "They told me I could write a whole letter with this pen. They didn't tell me it was the letter A." I'm sure the converter is great if one is prone to changing inks often, and it would last a reasonable time with a medium of fine nib. And stub nibs are fun; I might be tempted to use a 1.1 or 1.5 as a daily writer for a time to see if I like it.

    Well, these nibs are for calligraphy, not modern cursive writing. Calligraphy pens are usually dip pens and used with an acrylic-based ink (which absolutely destroyed my first fountain pen before I found out the difference :/) I'm very interested in the ability to do calligraphy with the ease of a fountain pen and I'll be checking these out.

    my favourite inks are made by Diamine, Montblanc and Aurora: have small handwriting and these inks put down a fine line which doesn’t spread out which matters most to me; find the Iroshizuku inks to be inconsistent: love the colour palette but not all of them stay put but shin-kai does as does shin-ryoku, syo-ro’s quite well behaved too as is blue/black and red from their regular inks; majestic purple is a lighter purple than I like, prefer Diamine iris and Montblanc ultramarine; the Ferris Wheel Press ink reminds me of J Herbin’s ambre de Birmanie which thankfully also dries darker than it goes down; thanks for this:)

    I know the whole world will disagree with me, but I think 51s both new and old versions are 'orrible things. The tiny bit of visible nib makes it feel as if I'm writing with a boring plastic stick. I much prefer a fully visible nib, a proper fountain pen. 🙃

    • @phi1688
      @phi1688 7 месяцев назад

      if you're asking about the rod sealing the pen... no. All vacuum pens feature this - it's a part of their appeal. They won't leak in your pocket if you leave the plunger screwed all the way down, but in order to write for more than a page, you have to unscrew the rod to let ink into the feed and nib

    Thank you for making this video. I own a small collection of vintage "51" pens (1943 to 1970s) including nearly every variant, most with cases and some with matching pencils. All my vintage "51"s (with nibs from extra-fine, italics to stubs, etc.) are minty and also nib tuned for perfect on page performance. For me, the patented designs of the originals far exceed the cut-down, simple designs of the previous two "51" problematic modern revivals--which fall sadly short in so many respects. Why didn't Parker simply bite the bullet and easily REPRODUCE the most successful fountain pen of modern times?
