Guess the Mystery Country?! (Blind Wine Reviews)
Thanks, enjoyed the vid, first time on the channel. I’m familiar with Konstantin’s YT channel but yoy don’t tell us who the Aussie guy in the hat is.
Konstantin you said in your "BEST wines of 2023" that you would definitely drink that bottle of Kopp 2013 Spätburgunder in 2024. Better open it soon 😅
It’s Konstantin Bomb!
I could listen to you two talk all year. Thank you for this.
"...and I don't have a back yard". Haha. But many ppl in the comments offering to open some gems from their cellars!
Konstantin doesn't remember well and proceeds to share the genealogy and that it was released in 1882. I had the same experience every time I asked a German if they spoke English 😂
the biggest japanese community outside Japan is in Sao Paulo :)
I'm sure China has tons of potential to make world-class wine, given the tax structure on the mainland and Hong Kong plus lower costs of farm labour giving their wine market a massive global advantage in terms of pure sales and dollars. Yet, producers are still a decade or more behind current consumption trends, if the desire is to export that is. It seems many are trying to make wines for Robert Parker or James Suckling instead of styles that work with China's strengths: diverse climates and elevations that compliment the diversity in Chinese cuisine. Marketing wines at $1000 USD+ isn't going to reach that potential. It wioo just turn people who aren't nepobaby "collectors" off Chinese wine entirely while most Chinese collectors will still buy foreign wine because they want the name first and foremost.
china aint making world class anything
This is everything that defines the Chinese consumer market. Everyone is looking for the next big thing as bragging rights. Friend of mine runs a major wine storage in Hong Kong that is popular with mainland collectors. He said these collectors often run dinners where the conversation is all about buying the rarest wines and rarely drinking them. Its all a moving farce. It used to be pedigree dogs, aged Chinese tea and old mao tai. Yawn.
Not a chance.
Did they steal that from us as well. Because Boeing said they stole 25 years of research from the American people.
I will buy Red Burgundy if they flunk their prices by 1/3 lol
Slatnik "Chardonnay and some other white varietals". From the winemaker.
The reason why the Japanese community in Düsseldorf is so big is because nearly 600 Japanese companies are having subsidiaries there, or even Europe HQs. A very detailed Wikipedia article "Japaner in Düsseldorf" has all the details (a shorter version "Japanese community of Düsseldorf" is available in English).
Thanks for heaving me!
It just occurred to me what a fantastic lighting, camera, sound and editing team you have!! Cheers to them.
Would love to have the audio for these chats on a podcast feed guys!
just starting the video - as an aussie living in Germany I will say I don't typically love German food, however Spaetzle with bacon / cabbage / onion / cheese is banging, especially with a richer spatlese or auslese.
KB is the best, as an Aussie I was wrapped to see Brendan and Kon show up in my feed this morning. Captivated.
@markcordwell2625 as a Yank, I was thrilled, as well!
Zweigelt. Two great parents. Born in 1922.
I was in Munich for business which had gone very well. I invited a few of my German colleagues to a nice restaurant. I ordered a Kabinett Riesling to have with a very nice river fish. The locals were puzzled, discovered I seem to know a bit about the wine style and murmured assent. They loved the wine. I could tell they were quite puzzled.
Thank you! I love Konstantin! He's one view point on the world and I love hearing it! I watch him every week. You Aussies also provide a different perspective as well! I love the wine world presented by RUclips these days!
Crazy how Konstantin was talking about Müller Thurgau as I just had one last night from Trentino
Hell yea
What is it called lads?
You'll need to see the full video to find out!
Craigie Knowe in Cranbrook Tassie makes a great Rosè Sparkling if you get a chance. Cheers Lads
Hey hey! GREAT advice! We'll keep an eye out for it!
Thanks mate, great attitude. Well presented.
OMG - thank you so much - that seriously means the world to have your support!!!
living in sweden knowing almost nothing about aussie wines -you have gotten me hyped up :) will go to systembolaget and se what they got of the better stuff
Can't afford anything from napa?? The Truchard you pictured is like $40. Only the Stag's leap is crazy expensive and still nothing like the others you mentioned. Yeah the Harlan and Scarecrow, etc are in the crazy range with others, the ones pictured just aren't.
Haha! We've been caught! Totally true - and apologies for the oversight there, I think it was more used as illustrative of the 'hyperbole' of 'hype wines' - 'everything' doesn't always mean 'everything' - good eyes!
KFC and Fino! 😅
DEAL! Haha!
Great video guys. Interestingly, I tasted all the Yangarra Grenaches at their cellar door and loved them - super red fruited, some had a confectionery note, with soft and supple tannins. Bought a couple home and opened one - similar experience to you guys. Harsh as fuck on day one, really out of balance. Tried again on day three - completely different wine. They really seem to need time in bottle or a good decant!
Definitely - we're seeing some decent decanted wines on the show in recent tastings - making us re-think how we shoot these into the future!
fucking love this line up!! keep up the good work boys!!
Thank you so much!!! Love having you onboard!
Love your work guys, but….I’m calling it - Hunter Sem is your blind spot. Admittedly not the easiest wine to understand, but really a gift to the wine world, especially with age! Ah well there’s an excuse to do more investigations !
Haha! Are you based in NSW? Usually we only see high scores for Hunter Sem come from locals...
@@wineforthepeople yep SydVegas these days after living in the Adelaide Hills for 32 years 💪
Get some mustache care tips from Ken Helm
DUDE - right?!
I've always used your pricing as an indicator of where you think the quality is and the number of bottles as your enjoyment. Thanks for sort of confirming.
You absolutely NAILED it - yep - how 'good' is it, vs how much should you buy. Too much of a good thing isn't good anymore!
Great episode ! When will the Red hoodies be back in stock ?
Oh good question - we never really sold that many of them to be frank - but perhaps we should get them back in stock?
@@wineforthepeople I would buy one in a heartbeat. A bit expensive but worth the RED color
Excellent video
Thank you so much!
Ken Helms wines are phenomenal and if you ever are in the Canberra area you should check out his cellar door, if you are lucky, he will be doing the tasting and he is a real character and has some amazing stories. (He is a Member of the Order of Australia for his contributions to the Australianwine industry)
They ARE phenomenal - and entirely unique too!
The POCW pinot Syrah is so phenomenal and everything they're doing at that vineyard is inspiring
It's bonkers isn't it?1
$50 plus for Fiano? WTF.
Haha yeah, they're starting to be more ambitious, that's for sure - and rightly so, the grape has far more potentially than we all first thought.
I tasted quite a few syrah pinot blends on my trip to the wine regions surrounding Melbourne last week. It is becoming more popular for sure
We've been really impressed by a few now! No doubt!
@@danielmagg6096 thanks Sarah Crowe bringing it to VIC from Hunter valley and making it a thing cos nobody in Vic had done it previously.... in any popular way...that others anyway and could emulate
@damfadd I just tasted their light red blend and it was really very good. I think this blend has a good future
