Donal Fitzgerald - History of Whiddy Island
Ireland unfree will never be at peace.
Read the 1845 description of Bantry in Irelands Welcome to the Stranger by A. Nicholson. I have the book but its available free online. What does she see? A nightmarish hellhole.
that was then. This, this is now.
I think thats Sean Mac stiofain interviewing him. You can hear the english accent through the Cork.
May the sacrifice and courage of you and your comrades across this land, never be forgotten by our people. Thank you for my freedom
Nice memories of Fr Con Cronin RIP who is is seen speaking at 19:20 in this video.
I saw this when I was a lad. Kilburn High Road was packed with Irishmen, and black flags as far as the eye could see.
Was there living in the States now .
Great footage, thanks for uploading.
Only a coward uses an ambush
Guerilla tactics it's called. Using suprise against a superior force. Learn some history.....prick
Only a coward would do nothing while his country was invaded, the real coward was the invader that shot old and young woman and children while burning their homes
@@MrCOUNTYCORKI stand by what I say.
@@ballygeale1 I can't help the fact You're a knuckle dragger 👍
@@MrCOUNTYCORK knuckle dragged........listen cork boy, cork men were the biggest rebels ireland has ever seen, when the English Black and tans left the irish Black and tans took over all based in cork
Love this video! My grandfather (Patrick O'Driscoll) was born and raised on Whiddy, one of thirteen I believe. I think he was from Reenavanny or Tranaha. My dear old dad (Patrick Niall O'Driscoll) was an avid Whiddy lover and spent all holidays there as a kid and was a mine of information about the island.
Wow, I remember there was no bus station until the late 80’s when the new shopping centre was open when I small, which year was this??

Nice to hear about back in those days lovely
Lovely to hear about the people of long ago and the history of them days
What a treasure to have this brave man's story. They stood up to a superior enemy terrorist force in the British government truly inspiring.God bless their memory.
I actually believe that boris Johnson would invade Ireland again if he thought Britain would get away with it. Unfortunately a leopard never changes his spots no matter how much we would like to believe they do.
Just sent a link to this to my Mammy who comes from there. Thank you.

He would not have voted for Sinn Fein if he had realised that they supported infanticide, mass migration and homosexual supremacy.

Great to learn the history and to see the old place and also to listen to the Cork accent. Thank you.
Disgrace how that great man was never Interviewed by national TV but as the man said there, they didn't want to hear or give air time about it. Typical RTÉ though. Hardly surprised. God rest those great men.

Michelle Linnane Jesus not that I know off. I think most of my family are dubs but u never know in Ireland 🇮🇪.
They fought with a sense of patriotism and strong national identity . These days if Ireland were invaded people would have no sense of identity or national pride and would probably not fight.

Irish history is almost unbelievable genocide before it had a name the courage of the men and women who joined the cause of irish Republicanism must have known fighting the empire was a longshot ar best and they won amazing
paul1x1 proper Irish ☘️ warriors.
@Mark Kenny yes really
@Mark Kenny so I learned all I know from an visiting professor the famine did the English allow the Irish to die and not only allowed but took all the livestock and other foodstuffs out of ireland while two thirds of the native irish died of starvation or emigrated or was he lying
That is a shocking and flagrant lie. Our population doubled 1801-41. How is that genocide? Many of us were saved by aid from GB during the Famine. We received the same welfare benefits as our neighbours in Great Britain. Tenants in Ireland were able to purchase the farms they worked against the wishes of the owners and the government lend the tenants money for that. Per capita government spending in Ireland was higher than in GB when we were all part of the UK. We had a higher life expectancy than Great Britain. We were enthusiastic imperialists. We served the empire in the British Army, the Royal Navy, the colonial service and provided governors-general.
@@GeorgeFromIrelandReflections George those are not famine years in the famine years I million people died of starvation and 1million were forced by hunger to emigrate in this time England shipped cattle sheep and grains out of Ireland to feed their own people as the potato blight hit Brittain as hard as it hit ireland
Great video, I learned a lot.... Seamus (Jim) O'Sullivan was my grandfather's brother, my great uncle. Very proud!

The good old days!
Wonderful!
Thank you
Thank you for sharing this personal history, it's great to hear Jacks perspective of the incident. Thanks!
Hopefully, by now, West Cork republicans will have seen through the fake nationalism of Sinn Fein and their support for abortion, homosexual supremacy and the replacement of the native Irish by mass migration.
