    Get a board with a trench to screen the foildrive from the side waves. Kinda expensive, but it solves the problem.

    One thing you didn't mention that I want to ask. The Ono 115 (or even the 105) are technically larger than the BP's 98in area. But the BPs is more concentrated together, like it is on the Stingray. So here's the question... does the Foil X L FEEL like a smaller blade with slightly less resistance per stroke than the Ono Ava 115 or 105, or does it feel the same due to the more concentrated together area?

    • @foilwithmefoil90
      @foilwithmefoil90 3 месяца назад

      I think the Ono still provides more power pound for pound. So if you have the same blade size on a BP and Ono, I would say the Ono will still give more oomph. But the difference is very minimal. But the BP does allow for a quick catch, and does come out of the water quicker and cleaner in my opinion. I think it has to do with the squished shape of the blade, as well as the angle.

    • @FoilWays
      @FoilWays 3 месяца назад

      @@foilwithmefoil90 Thanks. That's what I was hoping for. I wanted a bigger blade but with slightly less force needed compared to either of the larger Ono Avas.

    I design my own foils and my latest one shares a lot with the code S series except I'm not using the high modulus carbon. With the tricks bird's wing profiles use, wings don't have to be thick to get good lift these days. It's transitioning to being mechanically strong enough and a lower aspect ratio wing can get away with being thinner because of less tip leverage. This saves on carbon, reduces swing weight, reduces swing resistance and permits for a lower volume of water displaced and released by a foil's motion. I think Code have figured a lot of this out too. Most of the leading manufacturers are heading in that direction. And of course, lower aspect ratio translates to better roll and more fun.

    I didn't see this one until now but I agree. My latest design has even thinner sharp tips but I'm not using the same very high modulus and I have a thicker centre section to socket the chunky front foot of an Axis mast. Something half way between what I've seen of the F-One Sk8 and this foil. Absolutely agree about perfomance of those tips. A bit more area than an Axis ART1099 with slightly more span at 1 meter and a much bigger chord variation, I lent mine to a friend yesterday and he was mostly doing same speed on both when I looked at his graphs. This code would be faster, there's a consistent thinner chord. None of these pointy wings are right for beginners though. Too much wing popping out of the water violence.

    Hey guys, I disagree on that. I am using a 90cm mast, which I also use for winging, and it gives me enough range to ride without touching with the motor, most of the time. Using a 20cm cable length. Yeah, the cost is obviously a tough one. But I can use my same wing/prone board Duotone Sky Surf 4'6" for surfing and Downwinding. On a 1000cm Whizz Duotone which I just found out is amazing for Downwinding and Wake thieving and surfing slow and small waves, thanks to Foildrive. So instead of buying a DW Board and Foil, paddle, (bigger car😉) I got the Foildrive. But I respect your ethics of wanting to paddle!

    Wicked review guys! One question mark for me is in relation to how the front foot ramp will go with foils like Code and Armstorng, that like to be further forward in the box. It might feel weird to have to have your front foot on the ramp in order to have your CG over the foil. Hopefully this is not the case. Would appreciate hearing what foils you used with the Crossing and your opinion on this. Thanks a million

  • @gcammar
    @gcammar 7 месяцев назад

    Agree about all the limitations of the Foil Drive gen2. What most people don't know is that, as long as you have a board big enough that you can stand on it (with the help of cruise control speed) and you manage to place the battery box in between your feet, the Foil Drive Plus is far superior imo. Here's just a couple of the many reasons why I think that: - I can place the pod as close as 10cm from the bottom of the board (closer than that and it cavitates). That means that, even with a 75cm mast, my pod NEVER touches the water while flying. Not even need for tape at that height. - I can use a small battery and the total weight is WAY less than a Max (or even a Slim!) My board is 4.10x26x85Lx10pounds. Thanks to the fact that I help the take-off with paddling, I can use as small of a foil as I can handle. This video shows an epic run in Maui with an F-One Eagle 690: ruclips.net/video/V28JDf3Miqg/видео.html I've done hundreds of runs like this (starting with an Eagle 890 and then progressing to the 690) and the Foil Drive was absolutely key for my skill improvement. At this point, I could easily get a barracuda style board and do downwinders unassisted, but I have no intentions to do so because I would need a bigger foil (at least 1000) to get up. What's better a 4.10 board with a 690 foil or a 8 footer with 1000 foil? No brainer for me! Cheers.

      Yes. I’ve ridden the wind a bit too. It’s about as fast as the surf. No vent issues ever felt, even when maxing the speed in big surf. Turns are a little more drawn out than the surf model, with the longer chord section. But it’s an amazing mast. And for wingers or downwinders, I would suggest the wind over the surf model 🤙🏼 The shop has two in stock right now that are ready to ship actually if you give a call we can get you sorted

    I see the foil assist as a tool to get out to the wind line and ride a small board but once out there its a hinderence. My question about the new downwind board shapes is there a downwind board that's stable enough to comfortably stand up and paddle out 2 miles (not on foil) in chop to the wind line and swell and still be efficient enough to pop up ? My only experience is on the KT Dragonfly 7'7 x20 @160lb and when it's choppy it's not very efficient or stable enough to go the distance.

    Yeah boys, good stuff! Foil Drive is cool, but in my opinion it really shouldn’t be used for downwinding. Foiling is expensive already, and to add one of those to the quiver is next level bucks and the main thing to me is downwinding is a fricken journey, hardest thing I’ve ever done, and the suffering and pain is all a part of it and through that you learn the most. For those of you trying to get into it, keep going, head down. You’ll get it eventually and experience one of the coolest things you can do on water. 🤙🏾

  • @downwind_drifter
    @downwind_drifter 8 месяцев назад

    Wrong foot forward! Mast height could be improved as mentioned… that is my main issue too currently, I think not being afraid of the breach is key… but has to be weighed against how easy is it to then get going again and also how powered up are you, with bigger foils you often don’t need to ride as high but still should. Your lines look about as good as they can to me in those conditions. It’s a hunting line. You don’t seem to be turning down any of the bumps but are running across them, but I can see there’s not much space to work with as they are all close together. I’d say this is when you would be better off riding higher to start tapping in to the smallest chops a bit more and the perhaps being able to come back down to your comfortable height as you try run down wind a touch for a quick rest. Before going back on the hunt across the waves with a high mast again. Ok^ that was after watching the first section of vid… after watching the rest of it the lines look fine and your doing as I just suggested anyway… The other thing I notice is, and as with me too, you are mostly overtaking. It looks rear that you drop back to bumps behind your current position. This is useful to save pumping/chasing but requires a big enough foil… which I believe your one should be. I’d suggest trying to drop back swells occasionally if for no other reason than to gain and train a new energy resource. If you leave your line with some speed you can use that speed to glide back to a good bump and try connect to it using as little pumping as possible- like doing a reconnect turn in the waves- mast height will be key for this as do don’t want to have to slog to rebuild momentum after the turn back down wind. This should mix things up and create new options of lines instead of the constant pump that is sometimes needed to always be overtaking bumps. I’ve gone through this myself and it’s not an easy habit to break. The no pump drills are good here, with no pump it’s much harder to always be overtaking. It’s soon learned that the most efficient access to energy is letting it come to you more from behind. So if offered two valleys forking out from you, I’d try take the one forking back towards the wind rather that the one going with the wind as a point of difference and see how you like it- mast height will be key and a low drag rear foil helps tremendously. All that said you look great, just throwing ideas at you🤙🤙

      YES! You can specify which adapter you want to use. The Cedrus uses an adapter for any foil system it connects to. So when you purchase, just specify that you're going to use with Uni, and it will come set up for Unifoil.
