Why a career in conservation can give you MORE than just money
The main reason people don’t want to, or are nervous about going into conservation, is the lack of money. But there are more important things than money that a career in conservation will give you, and its things that research has shown are more important for career satisfaction.

    Hey Lisa, I find your videos very informative and helpful, thank you so much! I hope you will share more in the future. I have a master's degree in psychology, but I would much prefer to work in conservation. Before I jump right into studying ethology just because I love the way you describe it, I would love to take the opportunity to volunteer and write about or record my experiences. I was looking into volunteering programmes in Asia, as I intend to go there for some months, but I read so much conflicting information and warnings regarding possible scammy or bad programmes. Do you have any advice on where/how I could find a volunteering position in a project that is doing some actual good?

I tought a lot about studying ecology or wildlife conservation but im quite bad at maths by brain doesnt work that way i guess. Do you think could i have a role in this field without math skills?

    Thanks so much for sharing- this is really interesting. I’m hoping to move into conservation from a background in teaching and psychology, which is a little daunting. I was wondering whether you’d think a background in human behaviour might be helpful in moving into conservation behaviour, after further study of course?

    Honestly, I just want to work at a zoo and give kids the same love for animals the same way zoos did for me. Everything about animals fascinates me; their evolution, their survival tactics, their hunting habits, their physical differences, their mental functions, so many things. And I want to give the next generation that same fascination.

    Take a zoologist for example, during their career could they end up being a wildlife biologist and/or an ethnologist without studying? For example, the person does zoology at university and after graduation, for 10 years they study a herd of zebras. Then for whatever reason they end up studying that herd of zebras plus some buffalo for 6 years(wildlife biologists). Then whilst studying both the zebras and buffalo they notice something distinct from the buffalo which hasn’t been documented before and so decide to study just the buffalo and just that one characteristic like Jane did with Chimps using tools (ethnologist). Is all this possible? Or if you chose one that’s it, that’s what you do for your career, you graduated as a zoologist and therefore you can’t mix/over lap into the other category? Or is this possible?

    Thank you, I am debating whether to do a Masters by Research part-time or full-time, and I am definitely thinking part-time now. I get stressed very easily and I would like the time to read and do the dissertation to the best of my ability. A year just doesn't feel like it'd be enough for me to cram it all in. I like having more free time to just breathe and relax, also.

    What is the reason for them swarming like that? Is there some food for them in the office?

    • @DiaryofaTentwife
      @DiaryofaTentwife Год назад

      They tend to just move through certain areas taking everything in their path! And it happens everywhere whether there is “human food” or not (there isn’t any in the offices) they tend to wipe out bugs, spiders etc and then they are gone. The more you interrupt them in anyway the longer they hang around. We’ve had to clear out of our kitchen for the night (I had to abandon my bag with my laptop in even as it happened so quickly!) and then by the morning they had vanished. People have had to move tents before to allow them to pass through. It’s quite amazing!
