I built THIS at an airbnb | modern walnut and brass bench
Building a bench in the backyard of a short term rental after being displaced from my home was not a part of my plans for 2024, but here we are. Might as well build something cool. As always, I appreciate your time and hope you enjoyed this video!

i build a mid century modern dining table - woodworking fail
Просмотров 33 тыс.2 года назад
This mid century modern dining table could have gone much smoother. While it is undoubtedly my biggest woodworking failure (that I have now shared to the entire Internet lol), this maple dining table ended up being one of my favorite pieces to date! Built from locally sourced maple lumber, 8' long by 3.5' wide, this huge table is one of a kind! If you enjoyed the video, make sure and subscribe,...
Tricky Little Table - White Oak Entry Table Full Build
Просмотров 1 тыс.2 года назад
In this video, I built a white oak entry table for a local client. I show the process from locally sourced hardwood lumber, glue ups, and eventually finishing with one of my favorite woodworking finishes! If you have any questions about the build process, tools I use, or my business, let me know in the comments. Thanks for following along!
Really nice work! A few points about your design: 1. Are you not worried about cupping of the table top over time? You don't seem to add any support under the table top to keep it straight. 2. How about wood movement? With the inserts it seems like the table top and the base are connected with little to no play. Also I am really curious to hear how you go about your business. How did it start of and especially how do you approach pricing? I find this really hard to get my head wrapped around in order to set up a business.
it looks amazing, honestly. well done. i landed here because of the taper of the legs.
Hey guy great video but without slots cut in your bar stock your table still won’t be able to expand or contract
Looks awesome
Is there a nonAI definition of Mid Century Modern definition? 🤔
nice
On digital 3D modeling. I always do this. Even for simple projects. I use ScetchUp as a very usefull free browser based tool.
Nice video and channel. I can relate to this as I have almost the same tools (but no jointer). Great that this is not a $$$$ set-up with huge investments in tools for something that are mainly a RUclips channel and not a production facility. My set-up 100% hobby to relax from my daytime desk job.
Sweet piece, love to see power carving and curves go into a piece. From the Bentonville area and have been doing furniture apprenticeships for the last 4 years, love to learn more about your history and how you got started!
Great job!! You have a great channel. I've been binging your videos. Keep up the great work!
Very nice design and execution. Liked and subscribed.
I appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Working outdoors feels so nice, I wish you good health.👍
Working outside is definitely a nice change of pace. Thanks for watching!
Love the bench!! Beautiful design. It's so refreshing to see woodworking done that doesn't of a shop full of tools I wish I owned. Glad others like me have to work in the yard or driveway.
Thank you! Haha tool envy is real! Reality is, you can make some pretty cool pieces without too many tools, but it does go much slower
Great build brother you gave me all kinds of ideas . Thanks hope your back in your house and shop soon !!
I appreciate it!
Been following you on Insta for a while, but didn’t realize you were on YT until this popped up on my feed. So sorry to hear about the saga regarding the tornado. That was a nasty one. As a fellow NWA woodworker, I’m thoroughly impressed you attempted (and nailed) this build in the humid Arkansas summer heat! Unique design and beautiful finished product. 👏🏼
I appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely beautiful great job for working with what you had and the conditions. So sorry about your family’s loss 🙏🏻🙏🏻 hope your back in your house soon
Thank you! We just moved back into our house, so life just got a whole lot easier 🙌🏼
That green dye choice made me nervous....but I was wrong. It looks amazing. Love the risk taking, paid off in the end!
Just found your channel! Love it. NWA?!? I was just there a few weeks ago in Centerton. I'm from California but thinking about moving there for retirement. Our sons lives there with his family and we love it. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to following your progress and projects. Sorry to hear about the tornado. Our son was hit by it as well but fortunately he didn't get too much damage. I heard all about the storm when I visited him and how they took a family in that lost power. I think he said there was something like 5-7 tornados that night.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video! I do live in NWA! The storms that came through were pretty wild. Glad your son is okay!
Wow that came out great. I don’t know if I could even do that in my shop. 😅
I appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Xin chào bạn thật tuyệt vời ❤🎉❤🎉
Dust is Man Glitter.... the chicks dig it.... lol
Haha that’s what I’ll tell myself
Btw I love how much of your personality you bring to these videos. You’ve really got what it takes! Keep up the good work my man
That’s good to hear! Thanks for watching 🙌🏼
Lovely build! Any concerns on movement between the top and the base? I guess is narrow enough not to be a huge issue?
Thank you! The grain orientation of the base and the top all match. It should expand an contract together in theory!
@@alteredgraincustoms9891 ahh good thinking!
Beautiful piece and a great choice with the brass rod it’s made it look high end. Congrats on your new baby too
I appreciate it! Brass rod definitely was worth it
Really enjoyed this build. Gave me an idea for a book shelf I want to build. Also love wood carving.
Glad you liked it! Wood carving definitely adds a fun element
Really nice piece, especially under the conditions. - Chris
I appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Now that’s one beautiful piece of furniture. Well done as always lad!
Well thank you lad
My life over the past 4 months… - May 26th, leave to the hospital to have our baby! - House gets hit by tornado 30 minutes later - We find out our house got hit by the tornado and 10 minutes later, baby arrives! - Next day, leave hospital and drive around for 6 hours getting turned away from multiple hotels because they were full with other displaced families - Drive to stay with in-laws - A couple days later we get a 24 hour notice that we need to move all the belongings from our house/shop for demo to begin - Get settled into a short term rental and I go back to work - Almost blow up from a gas leak at the short term rental - Realize first short term rental has bed bugs - Decontaminate all personal belongings to avoid carrying bed bugs - Move back to in laws - Go on a vacation we had planned months prior and try to figure out new place to stay - Trapped in Florida the day of the global flight shut down. - Drive 18 hours home in a rental car with a 7 week old baby - Back to the in laws - Move into a short term rental (bed bug free) - No more insurance money for the short term rental, back to the in laws - October 2nd finally move back into our house But most importantly, I built a bench
Wow! Sorry all of that happened to you!!
Praying for yall
Very, very good job. I like the lumber choice, the joinery, the jig for rounding the legs, everything. One only thing, in my personal opinion: I don't like the shape of the top and the shelves: the diameter of the semicircles is little bigger than the width of the slab, and I don't know...but, only my stupid opinion. Awesome job, beautiful piece of furniture. And you are so young!!
Did you (think to) use any kind of wood conditioner? I'm pretty sure they make some specifically to help even out the color when staining wood.
I actually avoided using a pre stain! I wanted to keep the color variation, just got a bit too dark for my liking the first time around
Man, just glad you’re okay. The table came out pretty cool. I wouldn’t have thought of the green like that. But after seeing yours, it makes me want to do that green with some maple Legs or something light for contrast. Just to see the difference. I think the rag look came out better than the brush. Sucks you had to scrape it all off haha. The legs were gorgeous as well. Perfect joint in the middle.
I think it's gorgeous!
Thank you!
I like the finished product 👍🏻
Thank you!
Screw the gods...I think it's pretty darn cool looking....
I tend to agree
I love it. Emerald is my birthstone.
Thank you! I built this for you Kevin 👍🏼
It turned out different than the samples because you sanded them differently. The actual table top was probably sanded more thoroughly than the samples.
I thought that might have happened, but I think that would have resulted in the sample being darker rather than lighter. If I had to speculate I’d guess I left the dye on longer for the actual piece which gave it more time to soak in
I love the green! Awesome project. For that maple top, if you still have it, a potato chip table! maybe? Pringles color scheme 😂
Thank you! I think you’re right 😂
I kind of liked the green
Well thank you
6:08 Was that a wild Dingo?
Dyed Mahogany.........#unsubscribed!
Noooo come back! Although I can’t promise I won’t do it again…
You’re not underpowered, I do this with hand tools as only have hand tools…I wish…
Respect! I don’t think I would have the patience for all hand tool work
good video...
Well thank you
In school I made a green emerald table and all my class mate and teacher told me I was crazy hahaha I did it anyway and came out like I wanted
Not crazy at all! I bet the emerald green was awesome
This green dye is inspired genius. It was such a Baller move to scrape it and then re-dye it. Respect! If the wood isn’t bending to your will - keep working it. The table came out beautifully. My heart broke when you showed the tornado damage. I think the table came out unscathed because you put so much love into it. Is it possible that it’s being spared was a gift granted by the woodworking gods as a Thank You? I’m glad you are safe. I subscribed. When you are able, we all look forward to seeing your future creations.
It was painful to redo it, but totally worth it. Appreciate the kind words! More content coming soon
I zoo love that you colored the wood a fun color, I have been hoping for someone to do just that for a long time. It looks great!!!! I must admit that is the way i love wood the best.
Thank you! Sometimes you just need a little pop of color
@16:13 I can see the glue joints and other areas where I could see through the gray lacquer.
I think it looks great! I love it!
Well thank you!
Lovin the green
Couldn’t agree more
Bro you gotta white balance your camera! And bring the iso down. Love the video, your colors are just blown out
You’re probably right! unfortunately, my camera is the world renowned iPhone X, and I don’t know what iso means. Hoping to up the camera quality within the next year or so! Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it
I love the table! Those colors go together very well. So sorry to hear about your shop - hope you can get backup and running soon. 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Thank you! Shop will be back up and running soon enough. There will still be some fun builds in the meantime!
