Oh,yes this first poetic couplet can be interpretated in multiple ways. One WAY----- he is praising his own DEEWAN and DEEWAN POETRY---- ALL poetry is wearing paper clothes ( written on paper) and with his worn poetry, is crying( faryading! ) about shokhee ( playfullness of words) of the poetry. ----------- SECOND WAY of interpretation is---that he is praising the ALMIGHTY CREATOR, he is saying that ALL CREATION is faryadee ( crying) about the shokhee ( playfulness) of creatures----- that everything created is KAGHZEE(impermanent). !!! Oh YES, it can be interpretated that way as well!!

Well, the real meaning behind this is " that we know the reality of paradise ( to get in to paradise we have to be religious and it's hard to get the pass to jannah and he knows that we do din and will not get the pass so he said dil k khush rakhne ko ghalib ye khayal acha hai. ) that we can only make our heart satisfy by imaging paradise because we can not be in there because of our sins. 😊

He couldn't be more wrong. What Ghalib means by this couplet is that heaven should not be the temptation for piousness. Why should only the realization of heaven be the guiding line for praying Allah? You can pray and be pious regardless.

Sorry to disappoint you..your wrong.. ghalib always talked abt death etc. So, what he is saying is if there is god there is everything but if there was no god then there is nothing. And then.. he says… i only drownd due to my very existence in this world… if i hadnt exsisted i would never have drowned !! Thats the correct interpretation.. nothing to do with mein me or his ego ! 👍

Your baldness shows your understanding. Ghalib was a firm believer (muslim). In another couplet he says "tuje hum wali samejte, tu na jo baad a khar hota" meaning people may remember me as Allah's saint if I had not crossed His limit (drinked wine). Your interpretation is totally wrong.
