    Thanks for the video Peter. I like this machine. Question I like a machine that also has other options such as me running two of my Tormek diamond wheels, or other CDN attached to this particular machine. -Have you tried this with various other CBN wheels? -Have you tried it with Tormeks diamond wheels? * I understand you need a particular type of pin to attach to this unit when I want to run Tormek wheels. Is that correct?

      This machine ,the AC edge can take all these wheels you mentioned. You will just have to drill a Pin hole that lets you use the reverse without spinning the wheels loose. Cuttermaster has a jig/guide to drill this hole next to the 1/2" center hole. Ive had to drill this hole on a couple wheels I had and its no big deal at all.

    Again, don’t get me wrong. I love belt over wheel convenience of application. I’m debating these machines. I too for knife sharpening. I love the torque. My wheels totally slow down if I’m adding two cbns on my Tormek T8. It’s unbelievable. It totally slows down to a stop. Maybe I should check my shaft my washers on my T8. Make sure everything is in place but it’s happened many times.

    Now there’s a Swedish company that only charges $20 US for shipping for their CBN wheels and they claim they can be run in water normal water tapwater. That company is slipakniven. Then I don’t know if you heard about the other German company that you can run them in normal tapwater as well they’re called shcleifjunkies I have them as well and all of Tormek’s. I do agree these are great machines. I’ve been looking at them. Seems to me this freehanded is for more advance and experts such as yourself, sir. Me being a Tormek T8 user so far anyway I’m working with jigs and the universal support bars. So being more of a newbie and I certainly do like the two 250 MM wheel set up and then a, what was it 2 x 42” belt great convenience set up. But again if I wanted to hook up a water bath such as the tormek and a universal support bar with a jig so I can get the angle correct is that possible? These machines are great and I’m certain they’re made well but damn they’re expensive. Why wouldn’t one just use a combination of Harbour Frieghts let’s say for example one by 30s with some buffing wheels machines, and do the same process. And it’s a fraction of the cost. For example, presently I’m using 2 T8 machines, a Harbour Frieght one by 30, a toolker with variable speed one by 30. Anyway, I’m just trying to justify the cost for this machine although convenient on one machine are you still have to change out the belt. Yeah, I’ve considered this machine if we can be set up with a universal support bar and jig. Again, we’re not all professionals. but maybe this is more advanced users that don’t need an angle guide of sorts

    • @FREEHAND.WETGRINDER
      @FREEHAND.WETGRINDER 8 дней назад

      @@Phil.D333 you can use all the Tormek jigs. But running it slow and having the water bath defeats the advantage of speed. I use a spray bottle on the course wheel and a wet sponge on the fine side. The course wheel eats up the sponge. I’m loving my AC edge. It has insane amount of torque. Lean on it hard and it doesn’t slow down at all. If you ever decide to get one hit me up for to help the channel! Thx

    I watched the whole vid but never heard you explain the actual technique to remove the micro burr. Could you elaborate or point me to a video where it get's explained? Also I think the focus should be on edge retention testing, not on sharpness testing. A micro buss can get shaving sharp so you will still end up with Bess scores below 100. That means you can't make a distinction just by measuring sharpness. But a micro burr tends to fold over quick, hence giving you bad edge retention. So with edge retention testing, you could actually differentiate between a fully deburred knife or one with a remaining micro burr just by seeing how well the edge holds up.

    I started with the original WEN wheel and found it to be really inconsistent with course parts in the wheel and smooth parts of the wheel. Some parts were "harder" and other parts were soft and shed out faster. Overall, it worked, but I felt that there had to be better stones out there. I moved to the Jet wheel, and thought that was an improvement for sure. It shed nicely, so I wasn't getting that burnishing with metal stuck in the wheel as much. I did notice that my first Jet wheel was super soft on one side and hard on the other so it went out of round quite quickly. The soft side was always course and the hard side was smooth and it made it hard to get a consistent grind on the blade. I bought a second one, and it was REALLY SOFT. I put that away and just called it a loss, and chalked it up to manufacturing inconsistency. My THIRD Jet wheel was really nice and consistent. I could control the grit and grind very well. After truing the wheel a couple times, I'm now into a section of the stone that is SUPER soft. It's usable, but I have to smooth it over a lot or it's too course for the work I do. And you are right about there being little "rocks" in parts of it that you can feel. Not great for a last pass on a knife as it puts large grooves into your fine edge. I've been wanting a stone that is really consistent all the way through in hardness and grit. I just got my first Tormek wheel and I'm excited to get it on. I'm really grateful for your extensive comparison on the wheels; doing your work over months and noting the characteristics of the wheels thouroughly and not just "unboxing". I do a few hundred knives a month at work, and when you're struggling with the stone, you really feel that impact your efficiency. I'll gladly pay the extra money to have less frustration. Anyways... Thanks for the great video.
