the characters' stories were so insanely compelling and i honestly could not stop seeing them as real living, breathing people. iris' narrative hit me like a TRUCK

Still prefer Xenoblade 1s and Xenoblade 3s combat but this game one isn't bad just hated it the first playthrough when I didn't understand it so left a sour taste. Compared to Xenoblade 1 and 3 where even completely blindly I understood and could use the combat a lot more effectively and had a lot more fun compared to 2.

Hey Nara, long time no see. Glad to see you making awesome vids like this one. I remember telling you about this game once. Imagine my surprise to see that this game that I watched some of your LP of would be one of your favorites. I also freaked out at the reveal... there was loudness coming from my house and I remember my next door neighbor knocking at my house to see if I was alright lmao. I never did finish your LP of it. If it's still up on your channel, I'll definitely watch the rest of it. Hell, I'll start at the beginning, for old time's sake.

The thing about needing to make retcons for X to connect the games is that it's a multiverse. Continuity doesn't have to align between games if they happen on different timelines. The lore surrounding U-DO and how Mira seems to pull from a variety of universes both indicate the universes evolve with their resets. If you look at the chronology of Gears and Saga, Saga reaches far more sophisticated science than what appears possible in Gears, yet takes place well before. If we assume that, regardless of original intent by Takahashi and Soraya Saga when making them, that Xenoblade canonized universe evolution, Saga reaches a more advanced society earlier because they build upon lost technology remaining from the universe of Gears. You can actually trace technology and biology evolution from Gears all the way to Xenoblade 3, despite the order of events being out of whack. Continuity only matters insofar as Point A must be able to lead to Point B since the timelines are not inherently the same one. I do believe we're following a chain of universes, rather than only 1. I don't think this was the plan at the time of Gears or Saga's creations, but retcons refer to previous events being altered wheraeas this builds off previous titles. Saga will probably reconned with new releases, though. I just consider the originals canon until otherwise confirmed.

Should it be a Future Connected or Disconnected? That is the question.

I still think same multiverse, different universe should still be the setting. The DLC story doesn't need more fan service outside of things such as Land of Challenge. In fact, Land of Challenge might as well take fan service up further by having more Xenosaga characters appear (Or better yet Xenogears). But the main plot should focus on its own thing with its own heroes and villains instead of piggybacking off characters from other three XB games + descendants. But Zanza/Klaus being the one who basically birthed the multiverse where each and every universe has their own flow of time parts of a much bigger/more complex metaverse is still effectively what the lore dump of the whole Xeno franchise.

Not everything needs to be connected. XB3 already felt convoluted to me, this might turn into a Nomura level mess. Just let it be its own thing.

i am not yet watching your video but I agree. Xeno's fan need two optional. If you like linier heavy story pick xbc 1/2/3. If you want more exploration and customization pick xbc x

I think X and Saga are both getting connected. Saga’s the future of the mainline games and X’s universe is just where the original people of Klaus’s world ended up and became the Samaarians. Also it’s probably where the Zohar is now. Evidence? I made it up! I do agree that X and mainline are held to different standards and directly connecting them would be a disservice to the storytelling in both. Like yeah let’s let earth blow up despite how hard we worked to bring it back in XC3! Apart from that, BamCo seems to be really generous with Monolith’s usage of the Saga characters. KOSMOS’s journey is clearly not done because they gave her a spotlight in the 25th anniversary video, and Monolithsoft is a company known for their ambitious passion projects. Of course they want to continue Xenosaga’s narrative, and it seems like they have the permission, audience, and budget to do so now.

It's good for franchises to have two different subseries because often times people love one series but dislike the other (Persona vs SMT, Pokemon vs Legends, Traditional Zelda vs BotW, etc). As you said, it's about pleasing as many people as possible.

The idea that because it might be set in the same universe people would be confused without playing all 3 games and their dlc is stupid. I started with 2 and the reveal of how alrest came to be still was cool even if I didn’t know a single thing about 1. The way these games are connected are cool and yes there is a deeper lore and narrative thread throughout the mainline games there for people who play them all, but there’s also plenty to enjoy when experiencing them as solo entries. I don’t see why the X series can’t have a loose connection to the mainline games while also maintaining its solo narrative. The mainline games are about the creation of new universes created when earth was near destruction. X is about people fleeing from earth as it’s being destroyed, why can’t X be about the people who escaped earth before it was destroyed. I think they can still be their own thing if the events of the mainline games happen to the people who remained on earth while the X games happened to those who left.

You are ignoring the actual best case scenario. It is connected by the events on Earth that day but it goes in it's own direction and is disconnected from any future involvements.

Im cool either way, personally but Im not a fan of directly connecting it ie theyre from the same earth. Best route is its tied through it being another universe maybe a character or 2 crosses over, references like the nopon and telethia but thats it. I think the interest in getting an X2 from x fans is enough to keep it still its own thing. I like the idea of keeping X as a place to experiment with gameplay and story. The more sci fi vibe compared to the main series, player created character and the open world pilotable mechs, online functionality too imagine if they expand that too in a future title or an mmo. Like I enjoy jrpgs but to me they arent really rpgs in the sense of im role-playing my own character mostly, so I really want monolithsoft to keep X going so I can get me my xenoblade fix but in a different style of game that I also really enjoy

I think the scale of the retcons it would take to connect X would be way larger than 2 and 1DE’s. FR had the explicit mentions of Project Exodus, but it also mentions Dmitri Yuriev who shouldn’t exist for another couple thousand years, so I’m choosing to take it as a recycling of concept rather than an explicit connection. More than that, we’ve been waiting almost a full decade to find out what exactly it is about this planet. I don’t want that answer to just come from a different game. That is not the answer we were going to be given nine years ago.

As an X fan i agree with you. I'd rather them expand on the existing lore of the game instead of filling the gaps with connections to the mainline trilogy.

This franchise's overarching plot would never become as convoluted as Kingdom Heart's convoluted plot, riiiiiight?

As someone who never played X, I'm totally getting it on Switch when it comes out, but with the expectations that it's standalone. I'll be pleasantly suprised of course if there's connections to the trilogy since I love the trilogy SO MUCH (XC2 especially, ha). I honestly agree with the dual Xenoblades approach. I think the trilogy already went pretty deep with keeping and maintaining the connections between the three (no spoilers). It'd also offer more steam for a potential XC4 (or whatever title it'll have) for those connections instead of looking for them in more unrelated Xeno stuff. But yeah, we'll see. I also do sometimes enjoy "brainrotting" some theories in my own head because that sweet Xenoblade lore thirst is never quenched. Thanks for the video! *queer high five*

I started Baten Kaitos and the card systen is just not for me. I dropped it at around 10 hours

1 and 2, story wise, can be played out of order with the same effect. I’d recommend playing 1 first because it’s better to master that fighting system before you begin to learn 2’s battle system. I recommend playing 3 and then future redeemed last for the reasons he gave here. Future connected and Age of Torna can be played at any point after beating the games they are connected to.

Hekki grace! I agree, i was a bit bummed that 1000xR wasnt nominated in any category at VGA, cmon even a single mention in best narrative or at least games for impact would've been neat. Still its nice that more youtubers mention it in their end of the year lists, so it will continue to get recommended through word of mouth. A great video, loved how you described the game and its themes. It definitelly gripped me, the type of game that stays with you long after you beat it. Also it felt really rewarding exloring and talking to all the optional NPC's in the game , i feel like it provided a lot of additional context for better appreciation of the story.

Plus no cringey fan service, tbh most “fan service” in these games take away from the quality. Plus my gosh is the characterization of the mc and friends incredibly generic which imo exemplifies the issue with mainstream Japanese storytelling in vg, anime, and manga.

If you know the story play Torna the Golden Country > 1 > 2 > Future Connected > 3 > Future Redeemed. If you don't make sure to play Torna after chapter 7 in xenoblade 2

Extremely small detail: Overdrive and all those mechanics do get explained in the game! Sorta! If you count the digital user manual with literally all the tutorial information in it to be "part of the game" that is. Why they has literally all the details of how Overdrive works entirely in there is beyond me.
