Nissan Patrol 3ltr zd30 DDti Dawes valve and needle valve fit with HPD intercooler fan forced, oil catch can, boost and EGT gauges.
Great vid Kurt. Used this to install mine on the weekend after not getting any improvement from the install off another diagram. Works a treat now.
Cheers Russell glad it helped mate.
Those HPD Intercooler's Aint cheap......
They sure are not but they are good.
Hi Kurt, i realise it an old post , have you also blanked the EGR? cheers
Certainly did and make sure you clean the intake as it will be on its way to clogging.
Is that a catch can or a catch can Reservoir
Its a catch can which also holds any bypass oil
Great video! Have a small question... can the dawa and needle valve be replaced by an electronic boost controller?
1 year later...........Still no Reply lol 😆
@@benos4x4adventures49 lol, well I do have an answer and it is NOT, it can not be replace by any EBC because of the spool rate, so far there is an ECU who can manage the electronic boost solenoid and it is called magic box. May be the GFB boost control may work but no one has try it.
Hey mate, good vid, what size hose clamps did you use?
I can't remember except they are the wide band ones with a nut not the screw type.
The only thing a dawes valve does is stop the the turbo from over spike on boost.
Did it leave a scar? I’ve had my chest dermals in for 6 years now and I want to get them removed but I’m afraid that the scars will be very bad bc of how long I’ve had them in 😭
Hi Marimar we used to own and operate a piercing shop so speaking with some professionalism it will leave small scars if removed correctly. The flesh that has grown over the leg of the dermal "under the skin" will need to be cut this can be done by slipping a sharp needle i.e. piercing needle pass the post and used to cut the flesh. Once it is done they will pop out similar to how they went in. It is not to bad as far as pain but is a little uncomfortable, good luck with the removal.
Hey mate. Does having the T in the intercooler like that give funny readings in that the pressure is having to go 2 ways? Thanks in advance
We had a few issues with fluctuations but resolved it by putting a cheap filter in line.
On which side towards boost gauge or Dawes
Hi Zach just as the video starts you will see the filter its green and white we had this inline to smooth out the fluctuations.
Oh sorry my mistake mine already has the little inline filter I thought you meant a secondary thanks heaps for your help and quick response
Hi Kurt, great video. Simple question. Why did you select the HPD intercooler over the Cross Country version? Just about to upgrade my IC and just gathering as much info as I can before purchasing. Cheers Mark
Hi Kurt did you loose performance in your patrol with the daws and needle valve upgrades? I had a mechanic do mine and now the car wouldnt pull the skin off a custard?
That was excellent great info just about to do the install and this has helped me immensely
Loved your video. Top work. I wished the mechanic I paid a shit load of money to do similar work had of watched this first. He may have learnt something and not messed it up. Thanks
catch cans are easy when you dont have abs in your way..
One more question ,regarding the flow direction of the adjustable needle valve... so the flow direction starts => from the T piece threw the vacuum line goes in / the adjustable needle valve in the cab / out and ends at the air resonator box ?Thank you
Exactly like that, if its placed the wrong way like I did to start with you won't get vacuum and maintaining boost will be almost impossible.
I have a needle valve , dawes valve and Boost gauge , I want to install them. How do I connect the Boost gauge? To what hose? And do I really need a EGT gauge too? To what do I connect the EGT gauge? I have a stock intercooler with a slightley bigger core that is welded. It has no holes or anything to fit sensors. What do I do? Thanks in advance if you can help me.
Hi GC you need the boost gauge otherwise you won't have any idea what you are boosting at which will be ineffective to obtain the best results. Low boost = little power and higher egt temps, not good. Boost to high and you can damage your turbo as in disintegrate the little bugger. You need to fit a block somewhere in the system to mount to, usually on the intercooler. The egt is a good visual to see how hot your baby is getting the probe is mounted as close to the exhaust outlet as possible mine is on the outlet from the turbo where it meets the exhaust as that was a practical place to put it. I drive the car on four gauges, speedo no tickets, fuel gauge not stuck on side off road and the boost and egt which gives me almost the full rev range and the best power to temp ratio. If you are anywhere next to Charters Towers happy to help you out.
Now I understand how the Boost gauge is fitted , I need an adapter on the intercooler that fits under the MAF sensor . On your rig I thought thats how the intercooler is. Now I found some on the net , what would you recomend? : www.rv4x4.net.au/nissan-navara-patrol-zd30-3.0-turbo-diesel-turbosm or www.rv4x4.net.au/quick-fit-boost-adapter-with-shroud-spacer-kit-nis or www.tillix.com.au/product/boost-adaptor-nissan-patrol-zd30/ On the black one I do not need a T piece.
Mate they all look like they would do the job so it comes down to $ and your mounting choices.
Can you tell me where you sourced your thermo coupler?
I ordered mine from the USA.
Hi mate great set up, I'm in the UK and Patrol mods are limited in terms of spares suppliers. Can you tell me the part numbers / makes of the kits you fitted as it would really help me source the parts for this upgrade thanks in advance!
You will be able to get the oil catch can, exhaust temp probe and gauge, vacuum gauge for the turbo, bleed off valve and all other bits and pieces on line just google NADS and you will be on your way.
Kurt Stein Thanks I'll check it out
Hi Paul, did you get any further with this? I am also in the UK, I have fitted a catch can already. Wonder if you already sorted gauges out?
@@125022 thinking the same. I'm in UK and just nothing here for patrols. Even main dealers have trouble getting parts.
@@beaufighter245 I ordered the gauges from Patrol Apart in Australia in the end. Their website is so easy to find the right parts with good descriptions. Stay away from dealers for the genuine parts they are useless, the facebook groups have people who know how to get bits so I have not struggled to get what I need it just takes a little while which can be frustrating.
what kind of l/100km you getting out of your trol?
Not a great deal more we get around 5 to 6.5 towing and around 9 t0 10 on the highway without a load.
hi! I have a 2001 GU Patrol. Is it normal that once I started the engine, the Actuator goes all the wall up? I don't have a dawes or anything. It's just a stock engine with calibrated fuel injection pump.
hey kurt, i myself have a zd30 patrol, 2002 and am looking at doing this just wondering if you put an egr block on it?
Great video I have the Nissan terrano 3.0di which I believe is the same motor , been searching high and low for which pipe to cut into for the vacuum gauge , thanks a lot and keep up the good work that's a very nice mod 👍
Awesome video. Great information, knowledge and craftsmanship ! Top Job ! ! !
tengo una nissan patrol 2003 americana solo acelerea hasta 2600 rpm no da mas ya repare bomba diesel y sige igual alguna ayuda?
thanks for that kurt i will get one of them i will need to have it to run the boost gauge and the dawes system as well thanks for that mate great help
hi mate the little block that u put on the inter cooler did u put a t-peace on it the reason i ask it i got one the other day and it only has a single pipe on it
+Andrew Mavin I had to go to pertek and buy a T mate with a few fittings.
+Kurt Stein what ather little things did u have purchase to do modifications to yours and i forgot what year model is yours
2003, just a few hoses and clamps as well as the Tpiece.
Thanks mate! Very helpful! Hoping to do the same soon
+Paul Archer (Pablo) Cheers mate you won't regret the upgrades.
Good stuff Kurt great setup you have mate, can only hope I can too one day, but I did install a catch can last sat came out pretty good, from a novice mind you , will be getting a new intercooler as well very soon stocks been leaking oil from doing a round the block trip, so its a must being my mod NP 2000 gu ZD3.0L
Hey kurt how much did you pay for your setup?
+XXSAL01 The intercooler was $1200, lift kit and exhaust $1000, the gauges, and boost valve etc was about $400 and then a shit load of time.
Awesome mate! I would love to see a full install step by step of this.
+ninjamarky Could give you a few pointers or help you out but I live in Charters Towers, sorry about the delayed response.
Kurt, what did you put in as a baffle in the catch can?
+Lucas Roediger Sorry about the late reply just figured out how to do it. I used SS wool the swarf type, I did fit an internal baffle from the intake to the outlet as well mate.
Top video thanks. Explained it well
Very cool to watch and didn't hurt much at all. Thanks my baby xx
Great video thanks for sharing and glad you got it all sorted :)
